“Celest, are you feeling better?”
Celest in question, winced she didn’t want to come off weak, and that random breakdown didn’t help her. But the feelings of those blood-thirsting eyes judging and piercing her soul.
She overheard Erix arguing with a noble attempting to scam him out of his wagon. On the other hand, Carlos was neatly packing equipment and food for the trip next to her.
“Yeah, I’m feeling better,” she did feel better, but she doesn’t understand what happened before.
After some time, Erix became victorious with the argument and got a carriage and horse for dirt cheap. Showing off his achievement, he proudly set up the wagon for the trip to the capital.
“I should probably make sure we are all set,” Carlos quickly left to help Erix leaving Celest on the outskirt of Asin. Her mind was flooded with eyes again and pressure that was suffocating.
“Are you alright kid?” The familiar voice of Gale interrupted her spiral into her mind.
“Yeah, I’m all right.” Maybe if she kept on repeating it, it may come true. Why were her thoughts so clouded by massive thick fog?
“Not the type of trip you were hoping for?” She couldn’t stop the laughing that escape. She wasn’t even planning for this so-called trip, yet it ended in such a disaster.
Before long Erix called Celest over, but not before Celest gave a quick goodbye to Gale. Celest saw the newish wooden carriage that was painted with an emblem of a random noble house. It was pulled by a grey dapple horse but when asked, “What is the name of the horse?”
“I have no clue.”
Celest named the horse Owen. Surprisingly, Owen allowed Celest to pet him and braided his mane while adding daisies to it. While Erix packed the carriage of the bags, Carlos snuck an apple to him.
It wasn’t long until they set for the capital. Erix and Carlos sat at the front chatting away the day while Celest sat in the back. She watches the lands change to lush forests to dry grasslands. Sometimes she would listen to their conversation about the world, but she didn’t pay much attention to them.
The pressure in her heart got more and more until it grew numb. She didn’t crave the ocean anymore. Maybe her siren part accepted that she wasn’t going back. Well not for awhile at least. A new journey had start to the capital.
She wasn’t alone anymore. She had found people to fill the empty void in her heart. It wasn’t so long ago that her family was destroyed and her whole world twisted. She never meant to become the monster she was now. Humans made her into this. But not all humans.
Her kind killed humans, so humans kill them.
It was as simple as that. It was very much the ugly truth, but she could no longer hold the burning hatred that grew insider of her. Maybe those two at the front can’t replace what she had but she didn’t want replacements. They were perfect for her and her alone.
Just then crows flew by the window of the carriage. Just be free Celest and don’t hold yourself to an endless cycle of hate. Let your wings out and fly to a whole new world…
