A year.
That was how long it took Damien to arrive at Chaos' destination.
“Are we here??” Damien asked skepticism laced in his voice.
“Here" was nothing but a barren rocky plain that stretched out as far as his eyes could see.
Yes.
We are.
Here is where the portal is.
Chaos'voices hissed out.
“Well, here is nothing but a wasteland,” Damien complained.
Keep walking till I tell you to stop.
Chaos directed and Damien followed with a small nod.
Human.
Chaos began after a few minutes of silence passed.
Do you know of the earth’s poles?
North and South?
“Yeah, they were once covered by snow but thanks to the increase in the earth’s temperature the snow melted leading to flooding, death, and destruction yada yada.” Damien rattled off the knowledge that was beaten into him during History lessons.
Almost everyone knew of the Floods that threatened to destroy humanity but no one had the time to deal with them as monsters were running rampant, especially with the Leviathans that inhabited the new oceans that came after the Melting and The Floods.
When the Creator made Earth,
They added doorways,
Gates,
Entries,
Portals.
That connected Earth,
To different sectors of the Universe.
Like to the Abyss.
"Why would they do that? Why does Earth have to be connected to the Abyss?” Damien asked.
The universe,
And everything in it.
Is held together by a tightly woven mesh.
The dust on earth is connected to a start billions of light years away.
Everything is connected to everything.
Everything has to be connected to everything.
Now,
And Forever.
The portals,
Act as ports allowing the threads of energy,
That connects everything.
Entrance and exist.
Chaos' explanation did little to help Damien's understanding, plus their way of speech through the alternating their voices from a woman to a man, child to adult, human to inhuman still threw him off.
STOP!
Chaos shouted making him almost stumble and fall.
“What the fuck? What is it?” Damien asked as his body tensed as he got ready to fight.
We are here Human.
Damien looked around searching for the portal, a structure maybe? In stone perhaps? Seeing as that was all that surrounded him.
“Well? Where is it?” Damien asked as he turned around looking for the portal.
You need to activate it.
“Alright fine, how do I do that?” he gritted out, his patience wearing thin at Chaos’ incomplete instructions.
Let the power Chaos in.
Let it control your body.
Only the power of Chaos can open the door.
“Fuck no!” Damien spat out. “Every time it controls me I feel like shit after.”
It is the only way Human.
This portal needs to be unlocked from Earth and the Abyss.
We will do it from the Abyss,
And The Power of Chaos you will open the portal from Earth.
“Why can’t I just do it?” Damien argued.
You will die,
You are not powerful enough.
To open a portal.
Time and space will rip you apart,
Before you rip it apart.
Damien wanted to argue.
He wished he had a compelling counterpoint other than after the Power of Chaos receded, he always felt as if a small part of himself got destroyed making him less and less human.
“Fine.” Damien conceded,
“But no more than five minutes. After five I am taking the controls back.” He could at least put a time limit on his own body.
Very well human.
Five minutes is all we need.
Damien let out an exhale to prepare himself for what was coming. Although the past year Chaos has taken control over his body a couple of times, he still was not used to the sensation of letting the entity into him.
As he inhaled and closed his eyes, black wisps meandered from his shadow and up his body. They had a smoky appearance and barely left any sensation as they climbed up his legs, across his chest, and neck, but Damien felt shudders rack his body every time they did. Even if he could not sense them on his skin, his six senses raised alarms at their foreign presence.
The wisps' journey was accompanied by whispers that grew louder and louder in Damien’s mind the higher they climbed and by the time they made it up and onto his top lip, they were deafening.
As always Damien breathed in the wisps, his body seizing for a second as the black smoke disappeared into his body, always choosing his nose as a point of entrance.
The first time he let the power of Chaos in he was almost suffocated as his body fought the intrusion, took him more than an hour to let the power in.
However, currently, it took merely two seconds for Damien to recede and the Power of Chaos take over his body.
When he opened his eyes, he was always outside his body floating just behind himself. His body glowed blue and looked transparent.
In this ghostlike state, Damien could not interact with the physical realm, and nothing in the physical realm could hurt him.
He was tethered to his body by an invisible string that would pull him back whenever he went too far from it. He could stay out of his body for up to an hour, after an hour lapsed he would be forcefully dragged back in, kicking Chaos out in the process. He has spectated a lot of fights between Chaos and the monsters roaming Earth in this state, that was their chosen method of learning and teaching.
They tested how long Damien could stay out of his body one time and decided not to do so ever again as the effects had Damien out in a coma-like state for two days.
So Chaos’ training lessons took at most forty-five minutes then Damien would go back into his body. After a few minutes, they would resume training. Watching Chaos fight and use the power of Chao while he observed was the quickest way for Damien to learn.
When he floated to his front he found that Chaos had already taken over evidenced by his now completely black eyes. Not only the pupils but the white of his eyes were consumed by the black hue with faint spatters of white making his eyes look like a moonless sky filled with stars.
Not only were his eyes changed but also his forearms had turned ebony black and his mouth got wider making his face look like it was always in a state of joy.
Whenever Chaos took over his body he was reminded just how far apart they were.
A human and a cosmic entity.
“Five minutes.” Damien reminded Chaos who just looked at him with that creepy smile-like expression of it.
That is all we need Human.
Chaos reminded.
His mouth never moved as the voices talked.
Chaos then dropped to their knees and dug its fingers into the ground, then they started whispering in an unknown language.
The Language of the Celestials was what Chaos called it when Damien asked them what language it used when they mumbled to itself.
The wind started circling them as Chao’s whispers turned into shouts, it raised its soil-filled hands into the air letting the particles fall through their fingers.
The sky turned grey and heavy cumulo-nimbus clouds hung heavy above them. The air smelt of rain but that did nothing to deter Chaos who raised its voice and continued chanting his black forearms glowing purple.
Doubts began to creep into Damien’s psyche. Was his body going to be safe?
However, just as he was going to voice his fears purple lightning stroke Chaos’ raised hands, splitting into two branches each coiling around and down an arm.
Chaos’ manical laughter filled the air as it reared back, making the back of Damien’s head almost touch the ground, then in a blink, snapped forward to stroke the ground before it. Their fingers were driven into the earth and the back of its hands were to each other.
The coiled lightning snaked down its arms into the earth as Chaos continued chanting its loud voice lowering down into a whisper and almost inaudible as the lightning disappeared into the earth.
Then as sudden as the wind started, it died down, and everything went quiet.
Damien was tempted to believe that it had ended however journeying with Chaos the past year reminded him that all that happened was just the beginning.
Suddenly the earth rumbled and purple light burst from where Chaos had dug its hands. A bellow merged with creams tore out from Chaos as it started pulling its hands from each, warping the ground they did so.
Damien watched in wonder as Chas ripped the earth apart, but instead of layered rocks getting exposed at its action, the tear opened to nothing but darkness.
The portal to the Abyss had been opened.
Chaos stopped their actions when it was wide enough to fit Damien’s body making it look like a stretched-out teardrop.
Damien could not stop staring at the darkness below them, it had a seductive call to it.
Careful Human.
The Abyss is alluring,
As She is deadly.
Chaos warned as he stood from his knelt position.
“She?” Damien asked.
He felt himself getting pulled back to his body meaning that Chaos was receding allowing him back.
Yes…
She.
Chaos answered with so much emotion that it pricked at Damien’s attention.
Chaos was a lot of things but emotional was not one of them.
“I like a good story,” Damien said as he closed his eyes and allowed himself to enter back into his body.
Getting back in was as easy as getting out but getting used to his physical form demanded some time.
A good story you shall get Human.
Chaos promised.
But first,
Enter the Abyss,
And find me.
Find us.
