Crazy for sweets!

Crazy for sweets!

Apr 25, 2024

“By the way what time is it?” Victor wonders as he proceeds to stretch his arms due to the exhaustion from his regular training. Jane fishes out a silver pocket watch that she stole and upon seeing the time her face suddenly turns pale as a white sheet. Victor tilts his head wondering what went wrong that made her look so worried to the point that it almost drained the color from her face.

“It’s past noon!!” She panickily exclaims loudly as Victor immediately understood what she meant and together the pair quickly ran towards the mansion as if their lives were fully depended on it. Victor sprinted faster than Jane, but soon began to notice that she was struggling to keep up with him.

“What’s wrong, you're usually faster. Do you have a stomach ache?” Victor teases which led him to receive a frown from Jane.

“I’d like to see you try and run in a maid uniform.” Her breath quickens, but she doesn't mask her irritation.

“Alright! Hop on or else we’ll never make it!!” Victor shouts as Jane didn’t hesitate to hop on his back as her arms wrapped around his neck to support herself. Soon the duo finally reached their way inside the mansion, but it wasn’t long after they'd noticed the other workers on their tail aiming for what they’re after.

“Victor, on your right!” Jane warns him, gesturing towards the other workers. On their right just as Jane points out there were a few butlers and maids that were sprinting in action surprisingly in an efficient and elegant manner. Upon being noticed they received questionable glances from them seeing as how Victor was casually carrying Jane on his back no problem while she was clutching onto him. They eventually were caught up. The pair manages to surpass them almost heading for the stairs, that was because Victor couldn’t run any faster for long due to his exhaustion from his training earlier and the fact that he’s also carrying his friend. Jane looks around, her eyes scanning the hallway quickly thinking of a plan, until her eyes perk up and finally she comes up with an idea so crazy it might just work in their favor.

“Launch me.” Victor couldn’t believe what she suddenly suggested, even asking her just in case if it was wise to do so. Jane manages to convince him that she didn’t lose her mind and that tells him that for the plan to work he should trust her and do it. Reluctantly paces his position. Gently holding her in his arms as he immediately throws her into the air per her request. Jane couldn’t help, but scream incoherently as she immediately held onto the chandelier, swinging it back and forth carefully enough not to break it or else she’d get in trouble. She then takes a deep breath and meticulously proceeds to slide down the stair railing while breaking her fall in the end with a swift flip. On the outside her landing made her look like she was capable, but internally she couldn’t believe that it worked and silently pats herself on the back that she didn’t break a bone this time. Ignoring the shocking gasps from her fellow coworkers including Victor. Jane didn’t hesitate to sprint down the hallways lifting her uniform just enough to not alter her speed. Making her way towards the kitchen’s door. She slams it wide open, and is welcomed at the sight of Beth, the head chef of the mansion, almost dropping the wine glass that she was drying, because she was surprised by Jane’s sudden and rude entrance.

“Are you crazy punks stirring up trouble again?” Beth asked, frowning deeply as she crossed her arms and immediately concluded that the others had already started a ruckus outside her kitchen once again right when the masters had finished their afternoon supper. Jane barely replies back to her, panting heavily, because of all the running she did for today.

“Y-You know I wouldn’t miss your finest cuisine for the world, aunty!” Beth rubs the back of her neck, already getting tired of Jane’s new shenanigans. She kept her cold demeanor and already knew she was being buttered up as usual by the strange maid. She definitely wasn’t used to Jane calling her aunty when they first met, but after telling her numerous times not to call her by that Jane insisted on keeping calling her and eventually Beth decided to give up.

“Jeez kid, they’re just leftovers from the Eclairs, Anyways.” Beth sighs as she hands the prepared leftovers inside the paper bags. Jane happily takes the lunch bags from Beth’s hands with a satisfied grin humming in a tune Beth couldn’t recognise. “Like I said, your finest cuisine! Do you have “it” I presume?”

“You mean the strong spices from the other regions that were offered as a gift to the Eclairs?” Beth raises an eyebrow wondering why Jane requested them. “We couldn't use them due to the master's sensitive palate so a payment for your help in the kitchen earlier. I packed it up along with some extra pastries. Consider it a reward for a job well done.” Jane’s dark brown eyes shine brightly upon hearing Beth’s harsh tone and even rushes to give the woman a hug until she effortlessly dodges her, causing the girl to fall, her face planting on the floor. Jane raises her arm up giving a thumbs up that she’s okay. Beth clears her throat. “I even took the liberty of adding something extra for that redheaded squire you’re always with. You two sure are the weirdest lot in this mansion making people chase after some leftovers as if it’s some sort of a grand prize like wild animals.” She shakes her head.

“Like I said before, Aunty Beth, I- I mean we wouldn't miss your home cooked leftovers for the world.” Jane giggles, thanking her once again and giving her goodbyes as she happily skips on her way outside of the kitchen passing by her coworkers. Upon noticing their tired expressions, she gave them a sweet smile as they all simultaneously groaned in frustration and defeat knowing they missed their chance and were yet again bested by her and Victor. She heads over to Victor giving him his share and with a bright smile accepts as they leave the scene together.

“Did we make it?” A man with dark greenish hair pants heavily as he barely held onto the edge of the door’s frame. His body wobbles, almost tumbling over due to the exhaustion.

“No, we didn’t and by the looks of it I guess it’ll be plain bread and soup again.” A maid with short dark blonde hair beside him groans in defeat. “Those two beat us to it. Again.”

“Son of a b-“ A skillet almost flew across the green haired man’s head, immediately dodging thanks to the maid’s reflexes pushing his head down. He almost forgot to watch his mouth knowing how the chef clearly expressed her disdain towards foul language. “Jesus!” He quickly apologizes as the maid proceeds to drag him away muttering under her breath.
