Dead Man's card

New madam in Grey mansion

New madam in Grey mansion

Apr 27, 2024

In the sack lay Gaston Regis, bloodied and bruised. His wrinkled face, swollen like a pig, with disheveled white hairs and blood oozing from his shattered teeth.

"Do you understand the extent of the pain now?" Daniel inquired darkly, his gaze fixed on Gaston.

Without awaiting a response, he left his chin and rose from his position. Without a backward glance, he departed, leaving behind the old man, who was clutching his aching lower body, even the slightest movement causing him agony.

Still in a daze, Johnny silently trailed his boss out of the room. Daniel glanced at the guard stationed by the door and instructed, "Proceed as planned," before exiting the prison.

Once outside, Daniel's serious expression melted away, replaced by playful smiles as he twirled the car key in his fingers.

Unable to contain his curiosity, Johnny asks, "Boss, isn't it against the law to harm him without legal notice?"

Daniel responded in a casual tone, "Yes, it is."

"Then why did you do it?" Johnny couldn't comprehend his boss's actions. He thought his boss was someone who always adhered to the law and never acted outside of its bounds. But today he injured the criminal who is under custody without the legal notice.

Daniel stopped in his tracks and turned back to scowl at his assistant, "When did I do it? Did I punch him? Kick him? I am merely a spectator for your talent show. I am a scrupulous person who abides by the law, Johnny'' he scoffed and resumed walking towards the police car.

Johnny stood there shocked, “ Did he… did he mean I am not a police officer who abides by law?”

He had unwittingly walked straight into his boss's trap.

As the night approached, Siren who had already changed into her usual clothes finished her work at the shed. Her things were already packed and shifted by  Raven’s people in the morning. By this time, they probably arranged everything in its place. She bid her bye to Alex and drove her bike towards the Grey’s mansion.

It was seven in the evening. The mansion was located a little distance from her house but it is not a problem for her as she usually drops Aiden at his school before going to the shed. The time difference doesn’t affect her duties as Alex will always be there in the shed to oversee the works and maintain the shed.

The guards in front of the shed once saw the woman in the bike, they respectively bowed and greeted her in unison.

“Madam”

Although Siren felt a bit  strange about the title, she acknowledged their greetings with a nod and drove through the gate. As the sound of her bike echoed, a tiny figure dashed out from the mansion, rushing towards her. Parking her bike in front of the mansion, she dismounted.

Aiden, thrilled to see his new mother, dashed towards her, his heart brimming with joy at the prospect of her living with him forever in this house. Lost in excitement, he ran for a hug without watching his step. Accidentally tripping over a stone, he teetered towards the ground, but before he could hit the ground a pair of lean but sturdy arms swooped in, catching him and lifting him up, settling him securely in her embrace.

"Be careful," Siren gently scolded him, her voice soft. Aiden grinned mischievously before squeezing her neck tightly.

"Mommy, you're home!" he exclaimed loudly.

A small smile tugged at Siren's lips. "I am."

Raven languidly emerged from the house, accompanied by his butler. As Hardin is the one preparing for the upcoming meeting he decided to leave the office early and spend some time with his son and new wife before heading to Millburg the next day.

"You're here," he greeted her simply.

Siren's attention shifted from the little fireball in her arms to the man before her. He was dressed in a sleeveless grey hoodie paired with black track pants, his midnight black hair tousled in a way that complemented his forest green eyes. He appears lazy and unbothered. His hoodie was unzipped to the middle proudly showcasing his toned abs to anyone within sight.

A small frown creased Siren's forehead as she observed the display, but she opted not to comment on it.

She simply hummed in response.

Raven  guided her inside the mansion. While it wasn't her first visit to the grand estate, she had never ventured far from the hall on previous occasions. As she walked beside Raven with Aiden in her arms, she noticed the maids and workers of the mansion lined up on either side, their heads bowed respectfully in welcome.

Coming to a stop in the middle of the hall, Raven turned to face the assembled staff and made introductions. "This is my wife, Siren," he announced, his voice commanding attention.

"She is the new madam of the Grey mansion. I expect you all to show her the same respect and obedience you show me and any disobedience… you know the consequences." he said with authority.

“Yes master” they replied in unison.

As Aiden excitedly dragged Siren through the mansion to show her around, Raven ordered his butler to prepare dinner before silently trailing behind the duo, observing them. Aiden eagerly showed Siren every nook and cranny of the mansion, from the kitchen to the library, the home theater to the swimming pool and gym. Finally, he led her to his own room, which was situated a bit away from his father's.

Raven remained silent, calmly listening to his son's excited chatter with a small smile playing on his lips. After an hour of house touring and chatting, the family of three settled around the dining table for dinner. Surprisingly, Raven didn't take his usual place at the head of the table. Instead, he seated himself on Siren's right side, while Aiden happily claimed the seat on her left.

Caught between Raven and Aiden, Siren couldn't shake off the slight feeling of suffocation that crept over her. In her own home, she was accustomed to solitary meals, except for the occasional intrusion of Alex, who often invited himself over for lunch or dinner. Gradually, Siren managed to calm herself, focusing on the delicious meal spread out before her.

She noticed that most of the dishes were her favorites, a silent acknowledgment that the man seated beside her had likely ordered the butler to prepare them. He must have done a thorough background check on her, she thought.

In the dim, desolate confines of an abandoned subway, a man stumbled, his grasp unsteady on a half-empty bottle of alcohol. His once-groomed appearance now betrayed by overgrown stubble and disheveled hair, his bloodshot eyes bore the weight of endless tears.

As he faltered, a jagged stone sliced across his forehead, drawing a trickle of blood. Yet, the physical pain paled in comparison to the anguish gripping his heart.

Slumping against the cold, graffiti-stained walls, he gazed vacantly at the oppressive sky, tears silently tracing down his cheeks. With a heavy heart, he shut his eyes, only for fresh waves of despair to wrench anguished sobs from his chest. In a fit of anguish, he hurled the bottle, shattering it against the unforgiving concrete, mirroring the shattered pieces of his soul.

A piercing scream shattered the silence, jolting him from his desolation. Instinctively, he stumbled toward the source, his vision blurred by the enveloping darkness. Guided by the cries, he pressed forward, his steps faltering but resolute.

Each scream pierced the air like a dagger, leading him to a decrepit shed at the end of the subway. With a door already splintered, he entered, his gaze sweeping over the rusty remnants of forgotten machinery and discarded debris.

A sickening squelch beneath his shoe drew his attention downward, revealing a pool of crimson staining the ground. His breath hitched, dread coursing through his veins as he followed the macabre trail, his heart pounding in his ears.

And then, he beheld the horror before him, a scene so grotesque it froze him in terror.

He retreated back with eyes full of fear before asking, "Wh... wh... what are you doing?".

"Please… help me."
