While making my way towards the kingdom, I realized I was high above the roads.
The only way down was by going into the forest behind me, which I would have easily gotten lost in without Faye’s help.
Faye used a magic spell lighting up a path that I was supposed to take.
As I walked down, I held Faye open and looked at the map at the end of the book.
The kingdom I had seen above the cliff was Sonia, the kingdom of Light.
They were known for their high standard of living for commoners, and love for the royal family.
The name however, came from the kingdom’s religion.
They were strong believers of the goddess of light, Theia.
South of Sonia was the dark forest, which was where I was currently.
The story had described this forest as a dangerous place with monster sightings at every corner.
It was often used in stories for children who grew up in Sonia, as a place where bad people were sent to.
I looked up around me, but there weren’t any monsters to be seen.
Other than the eerie darkness, it was quite peaceful.
I believed Faye was leading me in a safe path.
Just ahead I could see outside of the forest, and a road that will lead me to the kingdom.
As I made my way through the trees and bushes and onto the flat road, I could hear the rattling of a carriage and horses stomping.
clunk clunk clunk
The coachman made eye contact with me, with his eyes wide open in disbelief.
Before I could say something, he whipped the horses and the carriage accelerated ahead.
“Ahh!!”
I could hear a little girl’s voice yelp from inside the carriage as it took off.
I scratched my head, and slowly started to walk along the road.
I passed by large green fields, and farmers who were working their crops.
Once in a while I’d hear horses from behind, and every time I would step off to the side of the road to let the carriages pass.
A few times, their windows would be open and I’d see a noblemen or noblewoman inside.
A happy little girl even waved at me, but when I waved back I got a cold stare from her mother.
Since I was walking these roads, I must have seemed like a commoner.
The story portrayed clear social standings in this world.
The nobles held most of the wealth and power, while the commoners worked day and night.
Most nobles didn’t view commoners as people, and even the most successful merchants were looked down on.
This is why most merchants chose to live in Sonia.
It was the only kingdom in this world where the royal family protected the commoners.
Sometimes I would see people like me who were walking these paths.
When I’d walk by, they would give me strange looks. Probably because of my clothing.
I was still wearing a black suit and shirt from my grandmother’s funeral.
The clothes most commoners wore here were light colored clothing, usually tattered in a few places.
Mine was not only black, but also new and made of a material that normally only nobles would wear.
Although I would get strange looks, never did they seem to question the floating book next to me.
It made me realize that Faye was only visible to others, when I was holding it.
As I got closer to the gates, the looming walls felt strong and impenetrable.
I could see the long line of people, carriages and horses waiting.
I walked over to the very end, as I awaited my turn.
“—— —“
“——— — —-“
I could hear people talking in front of me, but I realized I was unable to understand the language.
I turned to Faye.
“Can you help me understand what they’re saying?”
Faye let out a glow and fliped its pages to a blank sheet.
On the page, a black magic circle took on its form.
I was then able to understand the words.
“I heard Princess Kerina had a calling in the church yesterday! Everyone who was there saw her praying, when she started emitting a light so bright it filled up the entire chapel!”
“What does that mean? Has the goddess appointed her as a new saint..? But what about Saint Sophia?”
“No one knows, it seems even the church is confused. The pope has been waiting for an answer from the goddess.”
As I listened into their conversation, I fell into thought.
‘If I’m remembering this right, Princess Kerina’s calling should happen around chapter 3 of the story. That would mean…’
I looked at Faye.
“Ellan must have just entered Acadia.’
Faye glowed in agreement.
The main character of the story was currently in Sonia where the Royal Academy, Acadia was.
