And also this morning the alarm clock is as annoying as ever, except that this time it is not the voice of the priestess that wakes Alberich and his companions but the sound of a battle horn. Obviously there is no time to lose, all eight of them have prepared themselves in record time and are on their way to where the horn sound came from.
It was a goblin who played the instrument, I think the leader given the cloak and the wooden crown he's wearing. In the town nobody seems to have noticed anything, the citizens continue to walk leisurely through the streets and no guards have shown up yet.
As soon as the goblin chief sees our heroes, he orders something to his subordinates and they begin the attack on the town. The eight heroes jump off the walls and get into a formation with the elemental blessed in front and the other four behind.
Now that they have engaged in battle against the horde of goblins, it is clear to me that the four in front have no intention of bringing their comrades into the fight. Besides, it's not even necessary, as far as I can tell they are all over level 40 with Ambesa having already reached 50, so for them defeating a few hundred goblins is not that different from a walk in the countryside. The flames generated by Darman alone are strong enough to incinerate more than five goblins at a time, a massive advancement compared to the battle against the bisso-galeto.
Just as I expected this battle will be really boring to watch and I actually think it will end even faster than I had anticipated. But then again, you have to let children play once in a while.
You know, I have hardly ever been interested in world affairs. Of course, in the early years it was fun. I had my comrades with me and I enjoyed being with them. It wasn't all sunshine and roses but I liked fighting alongside them. Since they left, however, life has not been the same. I don't mean to say that I've sunk into total apathy or that I'm depressed, let's be clear, but without them and especially without her, the world is no longer so much fun, let's say.
All this blathering to tell you that I honestly don't care about those eight. I only decided to watch them because I thought it would be interesting but all they've done so far is train and the first battle they face in a long time turns out to be a one-sided massacre. From what I know the monsters are supposed to increase in difficulty as the characters level up. It seems as if the Goddess lacks the basic concepts of RPGs, not that she was ever a big fan of them, if I remember correctly.
So be it, not even five minutes and the number of goblins has already halved. Another couple of minutes and they'll probably be done already. Ahhh, now they'll go back to their 'training' routine and I won't see anything new for who knows how many more weeks. God, make something happen! Don't tell me that's the whole of that woman's plan.
Wait, wait. Something interesting really seems to be happening. Some goblins, or rather most of them, are writhing unnaturally, just looking at them gives me the shivers. Their limbs are twisting and swelling as if they are about to explode. There seems to be something inside those goblins that is desperately trying to get out. And there they are at last! One arm, another, the head, the torso and finally the legs! That's what was needed! Forget those cheap goblins! Demons through and through! That's what was needed!
Look at them, aren't they beautiful? Their purple skin, their blood-red eyes, their claws, their fangs ... their horns ... their forked tongues ... okay, they're not exactly beautiful, but at least they're a real challenge.
Well, all in all, it's not really a bad plan the Goddess has. She realised that the group lacked teamwork and chose a challenge that forces them to work together. I mean, none of them are remotely strong enough to take on that many demons, but by working together they could pull it off. I didn't think that woman was so smart.
In such cases I would recommend a short strategic retreat, just to devise a plan. However, the city's defences couldn't hold out for a single minute and above all our dear eight heroes don't even seem to have noticed what has just happened and are continuing to fight in the same way as before.
Not good, not good. These guys are getting themselves killed, I'm telling you. Does that seem normal to you? Do these guys have any concept of teamwork or not?! I don't know. If they want to get killed, they should say so! Holy cow, and the demons are tearing them apart, I can well believe it! They're standing there like idiots getting the hell beaten out of them!
Whatever. I'd sincerely prefer not to describe the pitiful scene I'm seeing. Anyway, lacking any plan of action or teamwork our eight idiots are all about to be killed by the demon army. Wait, they don't look like they're intent on killing them, they seem to be avoiding serious wounding. Sure, that makes sense. I wouldn't want to see such valuable pawns get lost just because of some training gone wrong either.
In fact, as it turned out, the demons simply knocked out the eight heroes and are now taking them with them. Who knows where they are taking them? Probably to their homes, though it felt like they were on the opposite side.
Anyway…
