With a chilling tone–Felina had an expression of a faint seriousness before saying, “–But of course..it is just a rumored joke for how powerful they are..” she smiled–a somewhat forced smile to hide a truth to her words and yet we didn’t bother to ask. “One last question–then I’ll be going to go check on your friend in the next room over.” We both sat in thought but couldn’t really come up with anything before a familiar face popped within the conscious of my mind. “What..what happened to the inheritors..” Dax looked at me puzzled and confused then looked at Felina who knew exactly what I was talking about. She took in a deep breath then looked at the window to the left side of Dax. “Those children..you’re one of them aren’t you? You’re part of the Coales family..” Her tone became serious but somber and her stare was now directed at me. “Well..its plain to see now–you’re related to him..” I nodded and soon looked down to try and hide from the truth. “Hmm..now let me think…the last piece of news was from five years ago, systematically–six children were found buried in the sand next to the stashed bunker close to the LabTech building–and assuming they were..well..” as she said this–the expression on my face dulled as I hid the emotion I felt from the two people who stared. “But..” as if seeing right through me–her tone perked up my ears, “It’s speculated that the six children who died–were all heirs–if so how come three were missing?” she then paused her tone then looked at me; “Well–it seems like at least two of the three mysteries were solved..” it was then I conveyed an expression of confusion and fractured hope. “Rolan..ever heard of him..?; R-Rolan..?” with my lips quivering and my words quietly quitting–Dax looked with worry before saying, “Linden..you know this person..?” clenching the sheets of my bed–my body shook with hesitating fear. “R-Ro..lan..?” feeling the breakage of my mind–I then quickly snapped myself out and sighed a breath. “Linden..you’re shaking..are you really okay?” I turned to Dax and looked with empty eyes, my body soon came to a calm. “Rolan..he’s…my older brother–” Dax then looked with surprise but intrigue. Walking towards the door–Felina opened it swiftly and in front of her was Cynthia, with a sweat bead rolling down the side of her cheek–her eyes looked with guilt. “U~hhh..h-hi..mother..?” her quivered voice clearly stated her intention. Putting a hand to her hips–Felina looked with a unknowable expression and said, “Cynthia, dear–I know you’re curious about the world but–” she paused then put a hand to her head. “Sometimes–things shouldn’t be discovered–even if they can save the world..” shutting the door from behind the quick mumbling of wisdom soon vanished as the room filled itself with silence once more. “Linden..” Dax calmly stated; “You...you’re head–it’s bleeding..” It was then I touched the left side of my forehead; and there–the bandages that patched up my wound started to soak with darkened blood. Unraveling it–Dax protested, “W-Wait, Linden..!” but before I fully adhere to his cry–I again touched my forehead, it was scarred–the rough texture of fresher skin and recovered injury felt senile. “W-What..?..” Dax chum, “Y-Your..wound..?” I was unable to say a word–I only sat in astonishment at my once opened head injury.
With the time passing by and my mind filled with processing thoughts, the stems of my legs sorely relaxed while the ending roots of my arms numbed; as I lay to concentrate on my thoughts–one single question had its hands wrapped tightly around the base of my neck and throat, “Where are they..?” I whispered. Clink..! A delayed click of the door pushed my attention. “Hey..how’re you feeling..?” A familiar voice echoed through the room, I sat up and looked towards the man named Berny; “You feeling any particular pain?” he carefully asked, “Oh..uhm–I don’t think so, well–if anything my forearm feels numb..” he took a closer look at my forearm and said, “Mm..from the shape of your muscles and displacement of your ligaments–it seems like they’re in extreme displacement..” I sweated a droplet. “But from the somewhat calm demeanor you had earlier–it seems like you didn’t know about this–plus you aren’t screaming in pain from it..” I could only look with astonishment and surprise as I looked down at my arm. “The only advice I could give you is that–you give it some time to heal; I’ll also try and compact a cast for your arm–in case it falls into a critical stasis.” With that I could only nod and not any moment later–Berny left the room entirely to leave me to my peace. Though eventually it wasn’t much before Dax entered the room. “Hey..feeling any better?” he baited with anticipated breath, “Well..I–uhm..” I hesitated. “I’m..not feeling any pain–at least in my right forearm..” Dax crossed his arms, “Well..I guess its better to not feel pain in the moment then having to panic..” he sighed, “Ah..! Right..” Dax looked with revelation. “The little girl..Cynthia–I think, wanted to give you this..” he then pulled out a gray-ish white eraser from the pits of his pocket. “She told me to tell you to make good use of it–if you have to pass the time.” Looking at him with remembrance–I soon turned my head to my left and found the red leathered cloth notebook which still sat in peace. Picking up the book–its hefty but docile nature was instantly tamed within the palms of my hand, I opened to the first page and there wrote, “To Cynthia From Dad” I couldn't help but feel a bittersweetness, before I remembered, “M-MY–FAM-ILY.” It was then I reeled back in shock and despair as a gorific realization hit the brunt of my skull which beated the core of my thoughts. “Hey..!? What’s!? What’s wrong!?” Dax cautiously asked, I balled my fist as I did not have to audacity to explain what I was thinking, “N-No..I…I–I just felt the pain..it’s all coming back..now..” I quickly spouted. “I-If thats the case–I’ll go and get Berny” he worriedly stated, “T-Thank you..” I selfishly replied. With the room now empty–only my thoughts entertained me with nothing but contemplation and doubt; with what felt like sitting there for hours–eventually I decided to rid of these thoughts for now as I am still recovering my strength. Picking up the black granite with my left hand–the movement of my wrist started to move, at first the inspiration of nothing came to mind–but before I knew what exactly what I was doing–the feelings of anxiety and dread left my body as its work splattered onto the page. A boy–of a young but uncertain age appeared on the page I drew in–his hair black; his glasses slightly below the core of his eyes and his face of a somber and lost scene. I soon realized who this was, it was–Errk. The door opened, “Alright..Dax told me to check up on you so I came as fast as I could when I finished your cast–here you are” With a gentle walk–he hung over me in a almost protectively manner before putting the cast onto my right shoulder–then hooking it around my body–before laying my forearm within the hard shell. “Now–this should do it” with a achieving smile he then stated, “I heard that the pain finally came to you..take it slow, I don’t want you to push yourself alright?” I only nodded in response, then right before he left I said, “W-Wait..I..do have one question..” He turned and looked with patience. “Why..Why are you helping us..?” I calmly stated, Berny smiled warmly and looked at me with kindhearted eyes, “Because–that’s what people do..” walking out of the room I was once again left to my peace.
As the days goes by–a week has suddenly flown passed my sense of time and reality as I finished my lastest recovery. “Alright..here we go..” With a quick but gentle pace, Berny inspected the scars within my shoulder and torso. “Bullet holes huh..?” he knowingly stated, “Well..its not like we don’t see these things every day..; I-Is that so..?” He nodded, “Before, you said these scars were recent yes..?” I nodded my head to confirm. “Right..and when you ‘woke up’ from your…fall..you were shot beforehand–correct?” I nodded again. “Hmm..” Berny then put a finger to his chin and said, “Well if I’m going to be quite honest..you shouldn’t entirely be..exactly..breathing…based on what’ve heard..and where this–” pointing to the specific scar within my chest–he then stated, “This isn’t exactly something you could recover from..” I once again nodded my head, “Y-Yeah..I don’t exactly know either–after I lost consciousness I just..woke up and had these..” looking down at them–I had a silent sombering expression before I looked back up towards Berny. “Well..I guess if these aren’t in any shape of irritation or itchiness, I suppose it isn’t too much of a big deal–but if you’re still hesitant of these; I’d say its in your best interest to not mind them..” I finally nodded my head one last time before I stood and said, “Thank you Berny..I…I really do appreciate your help..” He smiled warmly, “It’s no problem, I would simply do it for anyone who’s injured or hurt” with that we both exited the room and entered the hallway. “Since it looks like you’re able to walk a bit now–I’d recommend checking on your friend..I’d like to be optimistic and say her recovery was just as fast as yours and Daxs’ but..” he quieted his sentence before saying, “But..I think her condition is..a bit more difficult..” as he said this–the door to the room Alaine was in–was now opened. As I slowly walked inside, the figure of her body laid on the bed–the tinted sheets were poured with sweat and the fibers of her muscles clenched each action as her body writhed in pain. “U–Ugghh..!” my eyes widened with worry and I took no time to rush to her side, “A-Alaine..! W-What..!?” but before I got to say whatever hung over my tongue..Dax–who sat in a chair across from her said, “She’s been like that ever since we were recovering..” his voice low and tired, “Dax..why–why didn’t you..; I didn’t need to worry you..I know it was selfish of me but I tried my best to make sure you weren’t already going through a tougher time than now..” His eyes filled with truth and fatigue, mines–an emptifull emotion. “E-Either way..you could of at least..said something..” my worried frustration lacked in anger–as I moreover somberly stated my reason. “I’m..sorry” was all he could say, before the scowling howl of Alaine’s gasp shook our attention onto her. Berny soon rushed towards the bed. “W-What!? NO!” His face panicked, “What’s!? What’s wrong!?” I horridly asked, Berny quickly looked then said, “We have to get doctor Felina! Quick! She’s going into cardiac arrest!”
