Light suddenly lit up the room.
I groan, putting my arm over my face.
“Honey. I brought you some breakfast.”
“Not hungry.” I goran as I pulled the blanket over my head and rolled over.
“You need to eat something.”
“Maybe later.”
I heard her put the dish on the nightstand before walking out.
“Mommy, why isn’t Khaos coming out for breakfast?”
“Oh sweetie, he's just not feeling well today.” She said. “So let’s just let him get some rest.”
Later my mom came in again with lunch and then again with supper, however I refused to eat anything she had brought in. I had no appetite. Same thing happened the next day. She brought me food and I refused to eat anything.
Sunday night I was sitting on my bed reading when my father walked in startling me. He walked right over and stood over me. I could feel my hands shake as I lowered my book, however I couldn’t make eye contact or even look up at him. He dropped my computer, phone, wallet and keys down on the end of the bed. He glared at me before walking out the door.
I sighed a sigh of relief before reaching for my phone. I turned it on and was stunned when I saw my phone was full of missed calls, texts and voicemails all from Kurt. I started reading through the texts and the more I read the more concerned I got. Kurt was starting to threaten calling the police and CPS if I didn’t reply or answer his calls. I was about to call him back, but before I could dial his number there was a loud knock on the door.
I jumped up, ran to my door and peaked out. My mom opened the door and there were multiple cops standing at the door.
“Hello ma’am we’re from the police department.” the woman said. “May we come in?” she asked.
“Of course.” my mother replied, opening the door wide.
I ducked back into my room, grabbed a sweater and quickly threw it on.
“What’s this about?” my mom asked.
Knock Knock.
“That must be her.” the female officer said.
I peaked back out as my mom opened the door.
“Hi my name is Robin, I'm here from child protective services. Can I join you?” she asked.
“Of course.” Come on in.”
“What the hell is going on? What’s with all the damn banging?” My father angrily asked, walking into the kitchen.
“Are you the father?”
“Yes.” he sneered. “Who the hell are you?”
“My name is Robin and I'm with child protective services.” she calmly replied. “We’ve had a recent complaint about your son Khaos.”
“Oh really?” he asked. “And who is making this report?”
“I’m sorry but the person wishes to stay anonymous.”
“What’s the complaint about?” my mom asked.
“We’ve been told that there’s been some serious physical violence towards the child in this house.”
“That’s a load of bullshit.” he snapped.
“Sir, let's not make this any more difficult than it already is.” one of the officers said.
“Now may I speak with him privately please.” Robin asked.
“No. I think we’d rather be present when you talk to him.” my father said.
“Due to the extent of the report we need to speak with him privately.”
“Fine!” my father snapped. “I’ll go get him.”
He started walking towards me and I ran back to the bed.
“What’s going on dad?” I innocently asked.
“Listen here you little shit.” he said, grabbing me by the back of the neck. “Don’t say or do anything stupid tonight or I'll make what happened last night look like a slap in the wrist. Got it?” he continued squeezing my neck.
“Alright.” I replied.
He pushed me towards the door and followed close behind as I headed to the kitchen.
“Hello young man, you must be Khaos.” Robin said, holding her hand out. “My name is Robin, I work with CPS.”
“Okay.” I quietly replied.
“We just need to talk to you and ask you a few questions.”
“Okay.” I replied again, shaking her hand.
“So if you could take a seat and if your mom and dad could step out for a few minutes and we can begin.”
They turned to walk out but before they did my father slapped me hard in the back.
“Who made the report?” I asked. Knowing full well it was Kurt, I just wanted confirmation.
“Like we told your parents, the person wishes to remain anonymous.”
“I was just curious,”
“So let’s begin.” she stated.
I nodded.
“Why are you wearing a sweater inside?” one of the officers asked.
“I’m cold.” I replied.
“Can you take it off?” the officer asked.
“Why?” I asked.
“So we can check for bruises or scars.”
“I’d rather leave it on.”
“We need to do a thorough investigation and would like to have your full cooperation.” Robin said reaching across the table.
I quickly pulled away. “I don’t think it’s necessary for you to be here.”
“You’re claiming that the report is false and you're not being abused.”
I lowered my head. “Yes.”
“We’re here to help you.” she said. “If you’re afraid-”
“I don’t need help.” I yelled, slamming my hands on the table, trying to hold back tears. I stood there for a moment trembling, until she reached for me again. I stormed off to my room.
“Khaos come back!” Robin yelled.
I ignored her and slammed the door behind me.
I sat against the door and could hear them continuing to talk although I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
“Khaos, open this door now!” my dad yelled, pondering on the door.
“Dad, I tried to lie to them I swear! Please leave me alone.” I begged.
“Open the door now!” he yelled. “You’re only going to make it worse!”
I hesitated, but I knew he was right and was just getting more and more enraged. So I slowly started opening the door, but he quickly forced himself in. The force knocked me to the ground, I tried to crawl away. However he bent over and grabbed me by the back of the neck and pulled me to my feet.
“Ahh, dad let go.” I pleaded.
“Shut the hell up.”
“Dad that hurts!”
He dragged me into the living room and threw me to the ground.
“You called CPS on us?” he angrily asked
“How could you?” my mom cried.
“I didn't, I swear.” I swore trying to crawl away.
My dad stomped on my ankle keeping me from moving any further. “Do you know why we named you Khaos?” he asked.
I didn't reply.
“Because you’ve caused nothing but chaos and misery for us since the day you were born!” he angrily yelled, picking me up again. “Actually scratch that, you’ve caused us nothing but chaos and misery since you entered Mari’s womb!”
“Paul!”
He threw me ribs first into the kitchen island.
I screamed in pain and dropped to the ground.
“Daddy what was that bang?” Maci asked, coming out of the back rooms. “What happened to Khaos?” she asked, heading in my direction.
My mom stepped in front of her. “Come on sweetie, let's go read a book.” she said, taking her by the hand and leading her back to the bedrooms.
When we heard the door close he grabbed me by the hair and dragged me back into my room. He slammed the door and once again beat me to unconsciousness.
I woke up sometime later still laying on the floor. I could see under the door that the house was in complete darkness. I laid there for hours with waves of pain taking over and my mind racing. More time passed before I got up and went over to the window. I threw it open, climbed out and went down the fire escape.
I walked in the darkness down to the riverlanding area. I walked over to the old Victoria bridge and started crossing it. About halfway across I stopped and just stood looking over the side. I jumped over the guardrail and started climbing one of the arches. I struggled with the pain, but made it to the top.
I turned around and stood with my back to the water, my feet halfway off the bridge. I looked up at the sky, the moon was bright and full and the stars were brightly twinkling. I leaned back and let myself fall, it was a beautiful night to end my terrible ugly life.
