Blake had been sitting alone as usual so Alex excused himself from his group and went to sit with him. This displeased Maddy. Afterall it wasn’t a secret that Nina and Blake seemed to be on bad terms. While no one knew what happened they wouldn’t possibly leave a friend to sit with their enemy!
Alex, “Having dinner.”
“I get that but why together!” Blake scowled.
“Obviously because I want something.”
“Look I already—
“Stop with that nonsense. Who sent you now? What are you trying to find?” Alex asked not wanting to hear his bullshit. Blake looked at him, figuring how to counter this but finally decided to give in.
“Augustus. I am here on a mission to find something, as for what that’s confidential.”
“Oh, so you are a Council dog now, eh?” Alex nudged him teasingly.
“I am employed not a dog.” Blake tried to say with a straight face keeping his anger inside. Though he found it hard to refute since this was what he called every Council agent he met.
“Is there a difference?”
Blake shot him a glare at that comment.
Alex, “Okay, okay chill I was only messing with you.”
“How did you know I was here to look for something?”
Alex, “Oh I didn’t I only had a hunch. I saw you walking into the library’s third floor, yesterday at 2:00 a.m. You are not much of a scholar, that I know, so I guess you were looking for something. Finding something within the ‘Fiction’ section I presume. Afterall even you know what books are kept there.”
“Look Morgan, this is an important matter and I can’t disclose anything about it to anyone.”
“I am not interested in knowing the matter at all. I just want to know that if I can expect any danger from this?” Blake after a little pause said, “The faster I find it the better.”
…
Later that night Blake was on the third floor continuing his search. But with no luck after 2 hours, he stopped and decided to take a little break. While resting on a chair he leaned back watching the sealing, when suddenly his eyes darted towards the various portraits of the past principals of the school, hanging on the walls. His eyes then went to the first principal ever. Green Tales.
The man considered to be the God of mages and the one responsible for developing the school the way it is now. Unlike how most principals are portrayed, having a strict temperament, his seemed gentle but at the same time the portrait reflected a sense of strength and respect from the man. Being in awe of it, something struck Blake’s mind as he flew over to it. He removed the portrait. The moment he did he sensed mana on the plain wall in front of him. He extended his hand covered with mana. Reacting to it a safe appeared on the wall which seemed to have been hidden.
‘I can’t believe watching earth movies, helped me this way.’ When Blake was at the hospital with his sister, she would usually watch mystery movies from earth since it was a big thing in Emerald and he was forced by her to watch them. He had remembered something similar about hidden safes behind paintings.
Blake however didn’t touch it and only waved a hand in front of it with grey light. It revealed the inside of the safe. There was a small box kept inside. But along with the inside of the safe, a very complex magic circle was also revealed upon it.
‘It seems I’ll need some tool to break this down.’ Blake then placed the portrait back and left the building.
…
The next morning Nina was walking towards the main building to attend her classes. She stopped when she noticed Blake entering first and waited for him to pass. When she walked in, she saw Alex talking with a student.
“Hey Alex can I speak with you?” She asked approaching him.
“Sure.” He replied.
“I’ll talk to you later then.” Alex said to the student as he turned his attention to Nina.
Alex, “Yeah what’s up?”
Nina, “What do you think he is here for?” Nina pointed towards Blake at the far end of the corridor.
“He’s not here to make trouble. He’s just—
“He’s what? Here to complete his education? You seriously believe that?”
Glancing at Nina who seemed troubled by Blake’s presence here Alex sighed before replying “Okay I’ll tell you about it, but not here …later before lunch. And I believe we both have math for our first class.”
“Okay, let’s go then.” She nodded as they started walking towards their class.
“By the way, I heard about yesterday in the library.”
“It was nothing.”
“He came to apologize, that’s not nothing.”
Nina darted her eyes away.
“Come on you know he had no choice, his sister was held captive, besides he tried to save you at the end.”
“Yeah, he did but after trying to kill you, might I remind you that. And I would have been killed by Azmiel too.”
“Yeah, Azmiel and not Blake. As much as I hate to say it, he’s not a bad person just a prideful bastard.” Alex said shaking his head helplessly. He then continued “Often times a person’s circumstances, pulls them on the path of averse and forces them to go down that path.”
There was silence for a few seconds after Alex said that.
Nina pondered for a little on his words before looking at Alex. “Why do you come off as some wise sage sometimes?”
Alex smirked. “I only quote them.”
“And who does these words belong to then?”
“I don’t know? I like them I take them.”
“Is that so…” Nina chuckled in response.
“Fine I’ll give him another chance. Maybe.”
“Your maybe is a yes.” Alex said as he patted her shoulder and entered the classroom as they had already reached it.
“No, it’s not.” Nina rebuked trying to protest which was ignored by Alex.
