Nova finished setting up the firewood and was only waiting for Lucas. It’s starting to get dark, and there are still no signs of him. Despite Nova's dislike for Lucas, she’s worried.
“He hasn’t hung himself in there, hasn’t he?” Nova muttered to herself. The feeling of uneasiness got to her, and she stood up and started walking towards the forest, searching for Lucas.
“Hello!” she called, hoping for him to answer. The color of the skies keeps getting darker, adding to her hard time on seeing her surroundings, The feeling of giving up lingers.
“I am alone... again.” She lets out a deep breath and prepares herself to go back. A sudden light comes in. A firefly. Slowly, a ton showed up. It looks like they light up something. She noticed a hand on the ground and ran towards it. It’s him, Lucas.
“Hey,” she lifted, resting his head in her lap and moving his dark, wavy hair away from his face. Shaking him frantically. Searching for a wound, feeling his pulse, and even opening his mouth looking for something.
“You didn’t poison yourself, didn’t you?! Why won’t you wake up?!” she yelled.
Nova stopped shaking him after hearing him groan. She finally sighed in relief. Lucas slowly opened his eyes. “What happened?”
“I should be the one asking that! What happened?!” she pushed his head, making him fall again to the bare ground. “Get up; we’re going back.”
“Ah! It hurts,” Lucas complained, holding his head.
“Don’t be so dramatic; I didn’t push your head that hard!” She defended.
“No, something fell on my head earlier; that might be the reason I collapsed,” he explained. Seeing him still holding his head, Nova can’t help but worry.
“Let me see.” She started walking towards him and checked his head. “Where?” Lucas pointed at the top of his head. “There’s a bump. Are you sure it’s not a tumor?” She curiously asked.
“No!” he quickly denied. “It’s definitely that thing, you know, that thing that fell into my head. What was it anyway?” Lucas searched the grounds.
“Just making sure, I don’t want to witness anyone dying. Look, that branch—that might be the one.” Nova walked towards the branch and lifted it. “This is enough to knock you off,” she paused. Realizing that she hadn’t learned his name yet. “Your name?” she asked.
He looked at her. “Lucas.” Nova nodded.
“Let’s go; this will be enough firewood.” Nova started to walk away.
“Hey, aren’t you going to tell me your name?”
“Did you ask?”
“Uhm, I didn’t. What’s your name?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“What?! That’s unfair,” Lucas complained. Nova just grinned because of his reaction.
“Then just tell me what happened before you ended up here,” Lucas asked curiously.
“Are you prying on my personal life now? Just because of what happened doesn’t mean we're close enough to share something personal.” Lucas became quiet after what she stated. “I mean, isn’t it obvious? I’m sure you’re also one of the passengers riding that cruise,” she said. Her memory might be blurry, but that was the last thing she remembered.
Lucas tried to recall a memory, but that was the only thing he remembered. “I don’t remember—ah!” Nova quickly looked at him after shouting. Then there he is, chasing the firefly away from his face.
“Seriously,” Nova uttered in disbelief.
“Hey, the light is suspiciously blinding, you can’t blame me,” he complained after successfully chasing it away.
“Yes, yes, yada yada. Whatever you say.”
“What was I saying earlier?”
“You’re still young yet so forgetful; anyway, I don’t actually care about your blabbering, but please, for the night’s sake, can you please shut up?”
“I swear I was talking about something before; I'm not that forgetful. Come on, what was it?” he uttered to himself.
"Oh, for god’s sake, for you to just shut up,” a light distracts Nova, which keeps her from talking.
Lucas noticed how Nova froze on her feet. Worried, he looked back and saw what she saw. A hundred fireflies. It approaches and surrounds both of them. It’s like telling them to go in a certain direction. The two looked at each other, signaling. They both then walked towards the way the fireflies wanted them to be.
Walk after walk, led by the fireflies. The loud beat could be heard in their hearts when the fireflies started to lead them into a big cave.
“Wait, stop!” Nova resisted. She tried her best to resist and looked at Lucas, who was easily pushed by the fireflies. “No, Lucas!” She then reached for him and managed to grab his shirt, but was dragged with him to the cave.
“Ahh!!!” the two shouted. They felt like falling despite knowing that they had just entered a cave and were not falling from a digged hole. The two held each other tightly and waited for the fall to end.
“Uhm, excuse me?”
“Ahh!” they both shouted again out of shock. They both opened their eyes and saw themselves in the same position, just like when they entered the cave. They were both sure that they were falling, but they were standing like nothing had happened. Nova let out the breath she was holding off, same with Lucas, but then fell on his knees after feeling weak from all the happenings.
“Welcome!” the voice interrupted again. The two looked at the person, dressed in summer clothing but in different shades of black. Nova and Lucas wondered their eyes in the surroundings. It is a paradise. A breathtaking one.
“Why is it daylight?” Nova wondered.
“I thought I just lost consciousness for a minute; you didn’t tell me it’s morning,” Lucas complained, shaking Nova’s hand that was still grabbing his shirt.
“We’re just together earlier, you idiot. The sky is almost darker than his clothes, okay! I am confused as you are,” Nova explained.
“Okay guys, let's just chill. Come on, let me help you.” The guy helps Lucas stand and brushes off the sand that went on his clothes. The same thing he did to Nova.
“No, get your hands off me; I can manage.” She started brushing all the sand that went to her arms after Lucas held her. The guy attempted to fix Nova’s hair, but she purposely avoided it and threatened him with her eyes. Then he decided to keep his hands to himself.
“I think the fireflies brought you guys too early. It’s supposed to be on the 28th day, and it’s still day 10,” he uttered.
“Say what?!” Nova shockingly asked. “28th day?! Are you telling us to die? You guys all have this thing in here, and we got luggage and fruitless trees? Are you serious?!” she furiously complained. The two guys just flinched because of Nova’s shouting.
"Okay, as I’ve said, chill. The important thing is that you guys are here,” he enthusiastically convinced and smiled widely.
“Oh, introduction!” He excitedly said, then fixed himself and presented himself to them. “Hi, I am Solari and welcome to Luminary!”
