The labyrinth's entrance loomed, mist curling around its shadowed maw. The warrior, scarred and steeled, eyed the man with suspicion. "This labyrinth," he rasped, voice rough with desert grit, "it whispers promises. Why trap yourself in such a den?"

The man, eyes shimmering with excitement, replied, "As its name suggests, this is a wish labyrinth. Conquer it, and one desire burns into reality."

A flicker of hope flared in the warrior's gaze. "Any wish?"

"Alas," the man's smile dimmed, "restrictions bind even magic. Your wish must touch this era, no meddling with past or future. And only one in a thousand finds their wish granted." He hesitated, then added, "The dead cannot be unclaimed."

The warrior pondered, mind a battlefield of memories. "And your wish?"

The man's gaze softened. "To be with the one I love. I sought to marry her, but... if not for you, my blade would still be lodged in that goblin horde." He clasped the warrior's shoulder, gratitude heavy in his voice. "You saved me, warrior. Li Ling, of the Aldinos."

The name reverberated, a tremor in the warrior's past. Not an enemy, but a rival kingdom, one his own Bevois state clashed with in fierce skirmishes. He reached for his sword, but a distant pounding sent shockwaves through the ground. Horsemen, a hundred strong, materialized from the eastern haze.

At their head, a rider mirrored Li Ling's features. "General!" he boomed, relief washing over his face. "We found you!"

Li Ling's anxiety etched lines on his brow. "What is it, Hando?"

"Sir, the kingdom is under siege! Rebels from Bevois, a desperate last stand."

The news struck the warrior like a physical blow. Bevois, a memory carved in ashes and tears. Yet, he was no longer that soldier, consumed by hate. His only wish, a burning ember in his soul, was to hold his wife's hand once more.

Li Ling, before mounting, turned to the warrior, eyes sharp. "Your skills, warrior, I witnessed them. Assist us, and earn the gratitude of the Aldinos, the reward of your blade."

The warrior, trapped between duty and desire, saw a path emerge. He could stay close to his goal, a silent guardian angel. He met Li Ling's gaze, steel against fire, and with a rasped voice, uttered, "Lead the way."

Thus, the warrior of a fallen state, his heart a graveyard of regrets, became a shadow warrior, bound to a kingdom not his own, carrying only a ghost of a wish and the echoes of a war long lost.
