Come the next school day, Wolf sits in class as Teach speaks. Wolf stares out the window she’s sitting next to, deep in thought when the bell rings.
Teach “Alright, that’s all for today. Don’t forget to study the cell replication process.”
He tells the students as they all begin to leave. Teach goes back to his desk when he notices Wolf not leaving his class.
Teach “Wolf? Everything okay?”
Wolf looks down a bit with a slightly nervous look.
Wolf “Yeah, I just… I need to talk to you.”
Teach approaches her and pulls up a chair that he sits in backwards facing her. He smiles at her softly.
Teach “You want to talk to me? I figured you gave up on that a long time ago, seeing as you stopped asking for advice and all.”
Wolf looks a little upset but continues.
Wolf “Teach… a couple days ago, when we were attacked, we were also offered a spot in the ASA.”
Teach “I heard. As excited and proud I am, it is a school designed for creating heroes.”
He gives her a look as her face expresses uncertainty as she looks away. Teach sighs as he stands up.
Teach “Yeah, I figured you turned him down. Being a hero just isn’t your thing, right?”
He puts the chair back and turns to walk away.
Teach “I’ll make sure to let the principal know not to put your name in the system.”
Wolf “N-no! Wait.”
He looks surprised as Wolf gets a nervous look and lowers her head onto her desk.
Wolf “I’m not… really sure what I’m supposed to do. Heroes kinda go against what I stand for but I’m certain I hate bad people who hurt others. Everything just feels so complicated and loud. I feel… lost.”
Teach’s look softens as she looks out the window.
Wolf “I feel like I’m losing control… The other day when we were attacked, I wasn’t strong enough to protect the people I care about. They could’ve gotten killed because I wasn’t in control.”
Teach “And now you feel that the ASA is the next step in your growth? A key part to gaining that control?”
Wolf looks at him as she lifts herself up a bit and nods. Teach smiles at her.
Teach “You have no idea how happy I am to hear that.”
He pats her on the head as she smiles a bit.
Teach “Don’t you worry little one. You’ve got a bright future ahead of you and joining the ASA won’t be a decision you regret, I promise.”
Wolf looks at him as he walks back to his desk.
Teach “Now get going. You and your friends have got a lot of work to do.”
He tells her as she smiles a big smile.
Wolf “Okay!”
Teach smiles as the end of the school day comes. After most of the students and staff have left, Teach walks down a hall holding a familiar folder in his hands. He walks into the principal’s office before knocking on the doorframe.
Principal “Ah! Teach, glad you finally got around to bringing me those papers I see.”
Teach “Yep, just needed some more time to deliberate is all. After some recent events, I’m sure you’ll be excited to see them.”
Principal “Ohho don’t get me all worked up now.”
The old man says, adjusting his glasses as Teach hands him the folder. He opens it up and begins to read. He makes pleased noises and approving words as he flips through some of the papers until he comes across one specific page and droops a bit.
Principal “Ah… Deliberation you said?.. How much exactly?”
Teach smiles a bit as he sits, seemingly understanding his hesitation.
Teach “I know, I know but she’s got more strength and determination than any of the others offered. And she earned her place just like the rest.”
The principal looks at the page again before sighing and pulling out a stamp.
Principal “Well, I’ll take your word on that. You’ve always been a better judge of character than us all. And with the decline in hero count these days, I’m sure he’d take what he can get.”
The principal stamps the page showing Wolf’s picture and a green ‘Approved’ on it.
The next day at school, while everyone is in class, a message is sent to each of their teachers.
Math Teacher “Killian Kamui, Moshiro Ken. You’re needed in the office.”
Killian wakes up as drool pours down his face.
Killian “What?”
History Teacher “Saika Martinez, Phoenix Geist. The office needs you.”
They look surprised.
Literature Teacher “Tadashi Gin and Wolf Anderson.”
She says as they look at her. She gives them a slight smile.
Literature Teacher “It seems you’re needed in the office. Back up your things, I doubt you’ll be returning.”
She says causing the other students to whisper amongst themselves.
Student 1 “Looks like Wolf got in trouble again. So lame.”
Student 2 “All she ever does is get in trouble. It’s honestly pathetic.”
They whisper as Wolf focuses her eyes forward and does as they’re told.
Literature Teacher “I say, Wolf. It does bring me pleasure to see you going to the office for something positive for once.”
She says warmly as Wolf giggles to her before they walk out together. As they walk, Tadashi gently grabs Wolf’s hand. Wolf is surprised and blushes a little as Tadashi smiles.
Tadashi “This is it. The next step into a Universe unknown.”
He looks at her warmly.
Tadashi “We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Wolf blushes and looks away embarrassed with a smile.
Wolf “Oh shut uppp. You totally would’ve gotten in anyway.”
Tadashi smiles as they all meet with the rest of the group in the office. Wolf steps next to Phoenix as she looks a bit anxious.
Phoenix “Is this what I think it is..?”
She asks softly as Wolf smiles and nods.
Wolf “Ohhh yeahhh.”
Phoenix’s eyes shine as she struggles to hold back her excitement.
Phoenix “Really?? .. Phew, okay, don’t blow it. This is it.”
Moshiro “This is it.”
Saika “This is it!”
Killian looks around confused.
Killian “What?? What’s happening??”
Soon, the principal steps out and greets them.
Principal “Hello all. I’m sure you know why I’ve called you up here.”
Killian “No, I actually don’t.”
Principal “Based on your amazing performance at the Oats Mall and overall academic and physical achievements, my order of Southpaw, founder of the ASA and greatest hero, you six have been selected to join the Academy of Superior Abilities where you will learn and grow into incredible heroes.”
He says causing the group to giggle with excitement boiling inside of them.
Killian “Ooh that’s what this is for. Cool.”
Principal “Heh, cool indeed. You will return home and prepare yourselves because within the week’s time, you will be escorted to the ASA in District 1 where the rest of your lives will start.”
It becomes too much to hold and the group cheers out with joy and excitement.
Saika “Yay! We did it!”
Phoenix “We’re going to the coolest school ever!”
They shout as they hug each other. Killian and Tadashi smirk and fist bump each other proudly. Wolf sighs as she smiles softly before looking down at her open hand.
Wolf ‘I may not like heroes or the ASA all that much… but still. I feel a tremor of excitement!’
She thinks as she clenches her fist with bright, determined eyes.
Wolf ‘A new adventure awaits!’
Moshiro stretches her arms over her head before turning around.
Moshiro “I’m going home. I think Teach wants to talk to me about something before we leave.”
Phoenix “We should all get going. There’s still so much left to do before we leave!”
Wolf “Right.”
She says as the group all leaves together.
Walking home, Saika has a big smile on his face as he carries his bag on his back and a paper he received from the school that day.
Saika “This is so awesome! I can’t believe I was picked to join the ASA and with all my friends! It’s a dream come true! I’m gonna be a hero!”
He says excitedly as he looks down a bit. He thinks back to the Oats Mall attack as his smile begins to fade a little.
Saika “I’m gonna be a hero…”
He thinks of the fact he ran away first and only sat back and watched the others fight to protect people and each other. He gets a conflicted look.
Saika “I acted like such a coward…”
He thinks of him stopping Moshiro with a scared look.
Saika “I’m pathetic…”
He says softly while stopping on the sidewalk with his head lowered. Suddenly, he looks up and slaps himself on the cheeks and wipes that sad look off his face.
Saika “No! If I’m too weak then I have to get stronger! That’s it, I’ll get stronger then I won’t be such a scaredy cat anymore!”
He gets a determined look on his face before rushing to his house. He bolts through the door as a girl a few years older than him leans backwards over the couch and looks at him upside down with a confused look.
Asui “Oh, hi Saika. Why are you running through the door like that?”
She asks, looking back at the TV.
Saika “Sup sis. And it’s none ya business.”
He starts to walk to his room when Asui slides in front of him, stopping him.
Asui “Nuh uh. Now you gotta pay the toll.”
Saika “For what??”
Asui “For giving me attitude now pay up!”
She says before grabbing him and throwing him over her shoulder. She tosses him around a bit as he yells.
Saika “Ah! Stop it, Asui! Put me down!”
She giggles before noticing the piece of paper in his hand and seeing the brand stamp on the top. She gets curious and grabs it from his hand before dropping him on the floor. He hits the ground with a hard thud as she starts reading it. After a moment, her eyes grow wide with surprise.
Asui “You… were picked for the ASA?..”
Saika “Bleh… yeah.. yep, I was…”
He says from the ground with swirling eyes. Asui turns to him with a big smile before grabbing him and lifting him up.
Asui “You’re gonna be a hero?? That’s so cool, Saika! You did it! You did it!”
She starts cheering as she hugs him tightly. Saika smiles back.
Saika “I did it! I did it!”
They cheer together.
Killian in his garage, lifts a large weight repeatedly as he sweats before looking over at his bag and seeing the paper poking through. He smirks before continuing his exercise. Then two younger kids, twins, rush into the garage.
Sho “Big bro, big bro! He took my donut!”
Ken “Nuh uh! It was mine!”
Sho “Nuh uh!”
They shout as Killian sighs, dropping the weight.
Killian “Listen, if you both don’t get out of here and figure it out on your own, I’m gonna come over there and wipe all my sweat on your face, got it?”
They stare at him for a moment before Killian steps towards them causing them to run away screaming.
Sho/Ken "Ew! Gross!"
They shout as Killian smiles and shakes his head.
