Engineered Destiny

Author's Update: Embracing the Reader-Driven Narrative

Author's Update: Embracing the Reader-Driven Narrative

May 04, 2024

Dear Readers,

As the author of "Engineered Destiny," I want to take a moment to address some of the confusion that has arisen regarding the direction and inspiration behind the story. It's important to me that I provide clarity and transparency about my vision and the role you, the readers, play in shaping Zephyr's journey.

From the very beginning, "Engineered Destiny" was conceived as a reader-driven narrative. My goal has always been to create a collaborative storytelling experience where your input and suggestions actively shape the direction of the plot, characters, and world-building elements.

I acknowledge that my personal experiences, interests, and the media I consume have influenced the story in various ways, as evidenced by the author's notes I've included throughout the chapters. These notes have been my way of sharing the inspirations and thought processes behind my writing. However, I recognize that they may have caused some confusion or detracted from the reader-driven nature of the narrative, and for that, I apologize.

Moving forward, I want to reaffirm my commitment to making "Engineered Destiny" a truly collaborative experience. As we embark on the next phase of the story from the next chapter onward, I invite you to choose how you'd like to engage with the narrative:

Option A: Continue the Reader-Driven Narrative
If you wish to actively participate in shaping the story, I encourage you to share your feedback, suggestions, and ideas for the plot, characters, and world-building elements. Your input will be instrumental in guiding Zephyr's journey and determining the challenges our characters will face. You can reach out to me with your thoughts and proposals through various platforms, including Facebook, Discord, or here on Tapas.

Option B: Enjoy the Story as It Unfolds
If you prefer to experience the story as a reader without actively contributing to its direction, you are welcome to sit back and enjoy the narrative as it unfolds. Rest assured that the story will still be shaped by the collective input and creativity of the reader community, and I will do my best to craft a compelling and engaging tale that resonates with all of you.

Regardless of which option you choose, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and understanding. Your engagement and participation are what make "Engineered Destiny" truly special, and I am excited to see where this collaborative journey takes us.

If you have any further questions, concerns, or ideas, please don't hesitate to reach out to me through Facebook, Discord, or here. I am always eager to hear from you and discuss the story.

Thank you for being a part of this incredible community.

With appreciation,

I don't usually comment on my own works but I do have another option: Option C: Just let the chapters roll out at their dates. If you want to make changes to the upcoming plot, that's fine by me. I can just fix the chapter to jive with the changes.

In a thought-provoking and imaginative story set in the year 2048, "Engineered Destiny" explores a world where genetic engineering has advanced to the point of creating designer babies with customized traits and abilities. The story follows the journey of Zephyr Maximilian Sovereign, a genetically engineered child born to wealthy and ambitious parents who used cutting-edge technology to create their perfect offspring.

As Zephyr grows up, they grapple with the implications of unique identity and the expectations placed by their parents and society. With striking green skin, elegant wings, powerful tail, and a majestic horn, Zephyr is a marvel of genetic engineering, who soon realizes that extraordinary abilities come with a heavy burden of responsibility and public scrutiny.

Through Zephyr's experiences at school, where they face both admiration and discrimination, and interactions with the mysterious Magnus Institutes, which collect statements from individuals like themself, the story delves into complex themes of identity, family, and the ethical implications of advanced genetic manipulation.

As Zephyr navigates the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood, he must confront the expectations of his parents, the curiosity and judgment of his peers, and the larger societal forces that shape his world. Along the way, they discover startling truths about the nature of their existence and the hidden agendas of those who created them.

"Engineered Destiny" is a character-driven science fiction tale that invites readers to ponder the consequences of playing God with the building blocks of life. It explores the psychological and emotional toll of being a genetic marvel in a world that is still coming to terms with the implications of its own technological progress.

Through vivid and imaginative worldbuilding, complex character development, and thought-provoking philosophical questions, this story challenges readers to consider their boundaries.
