The rooster crowed loud, startling Bryan awake. He looked around and groaned. "Woah..." he rubbed his head. "That was weird..."
He looked down and realized that the envelope disappeared, leaving a shimmering trinket on the ground.
"What's that?" he bent down and picked it up in his hand before gasping. "This is... This is... the half-sun medallion!" His eyes sparkled before realization sunk in. But then that means... it was real?
He slowly stood up and dusted off the medallion. He placed it around his neck, and the trinket gave a bright yellow glow while it's orange rays gave their own shimmer. "Woah..." he gasped. "I can't believe this is really real…"
"Kids, breakfast!"
He looked towards the door. Right… his family. They wouldn't understand or believe… any of this. Even he himself couldn't understand any of this… but he'll figure it out.
Yeah… he will.
He buttoned his jacket to hide the medallion then he made his way out of his father's office. He ran to the bathroom before his siblings or parents could see him. Once inside, he sighed in relief and sat down on the ground. He took out the half-sun medallion and caressed it. "This is... so cool..." he muttered in amazement. "Wonder what it can do..."
He gently pressed the medallion onto his chest and closed his eyes. At once, the medallion glowed it's bright yellow and orange once more, but this time, when he opened his eyes, they were glowing fiery red. He got up on his feet, his other arm falling on his side as the hand with the medallion began to glow with pink aura.
"Burn."
Suddenly, the glow of the medallion disappeared, and his eyes returned to normal. He gasped and looked around. He looked down at the medallion, confused. "Wait, what? That's it? But it didn't do any—"
"AAAH! Fire!"
He ran out of the bathroom at his mother's screams, hiding the medallion quickly in his jacket as he made his way down the stairs. He gasped, eyes widening as he saw his family panicking at the stove flaming up wildly.
"Matthew, put out the fire!" Franzine hissed.
"Angel, get me the fire extinguisher!" Matthew cried out.
"Got it, Dad!" Angel rushed to the corner to unstrap the fire extinguisher.
"Ooh, pretty!" CJ tried to reach for the flames, but Franzine pulled him back.
"CJ, NO! Fire is dangerous!"
CJ pouted. "Fine…"
Bryan watched.the scene unfold, pupils shrunk as his father attempted to extinguish the fire, only for it to burn more. His body trembled, backing up before his family could see him. Oh no, oh no… did I do that…?
The medallion seemed to sense his panic, engulfing him sudddenly into a small, spiraling ball of flames that zoomed to the office. He gasped as he was released from the flames as he fell onto his knees.
"Oh... Oh god...!" He coughed out smoke before he took out his medallion, glancing down at it. "This thing is powerful than I thought." He gripped it tightly in his hands. "But I need to learn how to use it. It's the only way to forbid the Prophecy of the Shadows from happening and destroy the Curse of Darkness. Once and for all "
He took a breath and ran to get some clothes from his wardrobe before he rushed to the bathroom. After a nice, warm bath, he raced back to the office and changed into his apple green T-shirt and black jeans. He grabbed his brown saddlebag and placed in some necessities; food, water, etc. For a mission like this, he didn't know what to expect, so every necessity counted.
"Alright," He put on his midnight blue coat over himself to keep out the col and then his black belt around his waist. "It's time to go the Forest of the Prism,"
The medallion glowed, and he allowed himself to be engulfed in flame once more, leaving ash on the floor as he was whisked away.
Against his better judgement, Jackran had gone to school. The blinding headache he had that morning made him grumpier than usual that morning, and it only got worse as he headed to school. For hours, he sat by with his headache, the teachers not bothering to check on him.
Useless teachers.
Useless staff.
But having been here for so long, it was something he had simply grown used to.
Soon, the bell rang for dismissal. "Ugh, finally," Jackran groaned and rubbed his head. "I'm free to go,"
He got up and grabbed his stuff before running out. As he ran, he passed by an empty desk, and he stopped in his tracks to glance down at it, eyebrows furrowed. It was Bryan's desk… didn't he go to school?
That was… odd. Despite not being smart, Bryan was usually very… cautious with attendance.
So why was Bryan not here?
Jackran felt his stomach churn with the growth of concern, but he pushed it away as quickly as he got it. He turned away and walked out without a second glance.
He shouldn't be worried.
He shouldn't be.
Bryan wasn't his friend anymore… why should he care?
It took some time for him to leave the school premises. Once he felt that he was alone, he ran off to a tree and hid behind it. He out the medallion he hid in his hoodie and caressed it.
It was the half-moon medallion.
The trinket responded to his touch, a blue glow appearing. Jackran smiled. "Ah, there it is," he sighed, holding the medallion up to place it on his forehead. "Man, that story last night was really… something. I can't believe that kind of prophecy exists…" He hissed and lowered the medallion. "I would need to find my other half for this mission to work… or the world will be gone… forever." He shook his head and let go of the trinket. "I don't really care who has the other half, but I hope it's someone I can trust,"
Trust…
…
That's a word he didn't truly want to touch again.
The last time he trusted someone, he--
The glow of the medallion snapped him from his train of thought. He blinked and looked down before chuckling. *Alright, alright, I'm leaving, I'm leaving," He took a breath and dusted off his black hoodie before he cautiously looked around to check if anyone was nearby.
When he was sure that the coast was clear, he sighed in relief and closed his eyes, feeling the trinket glow on hus chest. He opened his eyes, and they glowed icy blue. He allowed himself to be be engulfed into the shadows, disappearing from sight.
