It was soon late noon, almost twilight. Bryan searched the forest for a path or anything to lead him to the temple. He started at so early, and he had yet to find the correct path. It was making him lose hope.
"Oh, come on!" he gripped the medallion. "You were suppose to lead me to the Prism Stone, you useless trinket! Ugh! Geez, at least lead me somewhere! I'm getting lost out here!"
The medallion glowed at his command. A path of golden light appeared in front of him, leading deep into the forest. Bryan blinked in but didn't waste his chance, running on the path. He ran through the forest until he passed an invisible border, one he didn't notice until his surrounding vibrated as soon as he was through.
"Woah!" He stopped in his tracks. He turned to see the border, waving through the air. He slowly approached it, placing his hand on the surface and causing a ripple. "Wow..."
So that was how the forest was protected. Impressive…
A rustle suddenly came from the bushes. He turned towards it, alert. "Hello?" His eyes narrowed at the bushes cautiously. "Who's there?"
He was met with silence.
He hissed. "I know you're out here, so you might as well come out!"
Another rustling came from the bushes. Bryan held out a stick, ready to atack any possible attackers.
A small child soon slithered out. It was a little girl with dark skin and black hair. She had snake green eyes and, in place of legs, she had a long snake tail. "Greetings, stranger," she spoke, slithering a closer to him. "I am Alissa Scales. You aren't from here, are you?"
"W-Woah!" Bryan gasped. "What… What are you…?"
"I am a Naga, and you are a Human," the girl tilted her head. "What is your name, Human?"
"Bryan. Bryan Gonzales," Bryan smiled at the girl. "What's your name?"
"I am Alissa Scales," the girl bowed, her fangs showing as her tongue hissed out. "Nice to meet you, Bryan Gonzales. What are you doing in the Forest of the Prism?"
"So this really is the Forest of Prism…" Bryan's sparkled before cleared his throat. "I'm trying to find the temple, where the Prism Stone is located,"
Alissa backed up. "Wh-What?"
"Oh! Don't worry!" Bryan backtracked his words. "I'm not here to steal! I came to destroy the Prism to forbid the Prophecy of the Shadows,"
"Destroy the prism?" Alissa blinked. Her eyes scanned him, and she settled on the medallion around his neck. Her eyes softened. "So you are one of the chosen ones..."
"You know who I am?"
"Yes…" Alissa nodded. "My Goddess made us aware of the chosen ones. We are tasked to help them at all costs to protect the mortals,"
"Oh! So you can help me?" Bryan's eyes lit up.
"Yes… starting with locating your other half," Alissa nodded. "You can't destroy the prism unless you find your half,"
"My other half?" Bryan hummed. "How am I supposed to find them?"
"Your medallion is linked to the medallion of your other half," Alissa explained. "It should be easy if you've learned to control your magic,"
"…Ah," Bryan winced. "I, uh, have not. I only got my powers this morning,"
"I see," Alissa gave a hum. "Not a problem. All you need is to concentrate your powers on your bond. A bond made between both trinkets,"
"Our… hmm…" Bryan held the medallion in his hands. Our bond… focus on the bond…
The medallion glowed a bright red, it's surface heating up in his hands. He let go, letting the trinket float from his chest. Bryan could feel it echoing through the forest, searching for it's other half…
Jackran felt the shift as he was halted from his shadow form. He reformed, gasping as he found himself in the forest. "What the?" he looked around. "Why here? Why now?"
The medallion began to glow bright blue, and he watched it float, guiding him forward. Hesitantly, he followed it, eyes wandering cautiously. He walked past trees and bushes with no visible path until he felt a shiver down his spine as he passed by something he didn't expect. He stopped in his tracks and looked behind him, watching a ripple from the air.
"An invisible border?" He blinked and chuckled. "That's... kinda cool,"
There was suddenly rustling from the trees above. He snapped his head upwards, a glare through his glasses at whatever was causing the rustle. The medallion was still glowing, but he didn't falter, grabbing a fallen branch from nearby "Who's there?" He took a step forward towards the tree. "Show yourself!"
An eye glowed from above before disappearing, the leaves of the tree rustling. Jackran growled, his grip on the branch tightening. "I know you're in there! You might as well come out!"
There was a thud, and his eyes snapped at the giant creature that jumped from above. A pair of blue eyes stared towards him, eyes sharp but solemn. "Who are you, stranger?" the being asked, her long black hair flowing down her body that was covered in hazelnut brown fur. She stepped forward, and Jackran could see the creature's ginormous feet. "What are you doing in the Forest of the Prism?"
"So this is the Forest of the Prism…" Jackran looked at the creature up and down before he slowly set the branch down. "My name is Jackran Ibane but you can call me Jackran. You are?"
"Aluritom Jovunila Ginormica," the creature replied. "You may call me AJ,"
"Interesting," Jackran nodded. "So, are you... a monster of some sort? You don't look human," His eyes wandered to her feet.
"Because I am not." AJ shook her head. "I am a Big Foot,"
"I see," Jackran felt the medallion tug on him. "Well, nice meeting you, AJ, but I must get going," He turned to leave.
"Wait!" He stopped and turned to see AJ moving towards him. "You wield one of the medallions of Goddess Night's prophecy."
"Yes…" Jackran narrowed his eyes at her. "How do you--"
"I am a Big Foot; a creature of Goddess Night." AJ claimed. "The prophecy had been passed down from generations of my kind, as were the kinds of every creature under the goddess's rule."
"So you're one of her creatures…" Jackran hummed.
"I am," AJ nodded.
"So you know why the medallion is doing… this?" Jackran pointed to the floating trinket.
"Your other half is calling for you," AJ replied. "You must follow it. You cannot fulfil the prophecy without your other half,"
"…How convenient," Jackran sighed. He thought he had time until he was to meet the sun-bearer. He wasn't so sure if he was ready. "Thank you… AJ,"
"May Goddess Night bless your quest, young Jackran," AJ bowed, watching the boy walk off to follow the medallion's direction. She smirked. "And may the demons have mercy on your mortal souls."
"I can feel them," Bryan gasped. "I can feel the moon-bearer!"
"That is great news!" Alissa cheered. "Good luck on your quest, young Bryan! May Goddess Night bless you both!" She gave a bow before she slithered away.
"Thanks for the help!" Bryan waved her goodbye. He turned to the direction to where the medallion was pointing and began to walk forward. The sooner he meets his other half… the better.
One step after the other, the medallion glowed brighter. Bryan was getting excited, willing to share his experience with a new friend on this daring adventure. The further he walked, the further he went through the forest.
As he walked, he tripped on a rock, and he fell forward. "Woah!" He helped and stumbled onto someone, causing them both to land on each other as they fell onto the grass.
"Ow~"
They rubbed their heads, groaning. Bryan looked up, and his eyes widened as he was met coal black eyes staring down. "What the hell?!"
"What are you doing here?!" Jackran gritted his teeth as he got up, glaring at the other boy.
"Me?!" Bryan stared at disbelief. Out of ALL the times… "What are YOU doing here?!" Bryan growled, forcing himself up. "I have a mission here! Stay out of my way!"
Jackran scoffed. "Gladly! But I have a mission here too, and you are the one getting in my way,"
"You-"
Bryan was interrupted by both medallions glowing yellow-and-orange and purple-and-blue as they floated for them to see. They stared up at the trinkets before they looked at each other. Both pairs of eyes grew wide, jaws dropping open in horror.
