Jackran paced back and forth, teeth gritting. "This can't be happening..." He hissed.
"It can't be possible..." Bryan muttered, hands trembling as he sat on a large rock, head down whilst he pondered.
"We can't be each other's halves!" Jackran shook his head. "We just can't!"
"...I don't think it's our choice," Bryan took a breath.
"Well, I think it is! I'm out!" Jackran snatched the medallion off him and threw it down. "You can suffer this hell hole on your own!"
He turned and stomped off. Bryan watched him, but before he could say anything, the half-moon medallion glowed indigo, floating up. It targeted the other boy before zooming towards him and confronting him.
Jackran nearly jumped at the trinket suddenly in front of him. He scowled. "Out of my way."
The medallion didn't falter. Instead, it launched itself towards him, knocking him down.
"Oof!" He gasped for breath. He tried to remove it once more, but realizied that it's strings were wrapping around his neck. "Oh, come on!"
"I told you that this isn't our choice. We were chosen." Bryan sighed.
"Oh, come on!" Jackran groaned, sitting down on the grass. "This is so unfair..."
"I know..." Bryan crossed his arms. "Listen, I'm not thrilled with this either, but," He sighed. "We can't let our personal problems stop us from stopping the prophecy... assuming that you know,"
"I know it, how do you think I was chosen?" Jackran raised an eyebrow, a glare to the other boy.
Bryan winced. "I didn't--"
"No, you did." Jackran stood up. "Why are you always like this? I'm not stupid!"
"I never said you were!"
"Yes, you did!"
"No, I didn't!"
"Yes, you--!"
They shrieked as a lightning suddenly struck a tree nearby. It was followed by rain pouring above them, and Jackran groaned. "How perfect..." He placed his hoodie on. "First you, and now a storm? This night just couldn't get any worse."
Bryan looked through his knapsack and before taking out an umbrella. "I don't this storm's going to go away any time sooner. Maybe we should take shelter?"
"Wow, History Nerd, I had no idea that we should," Jackran rolled his eyes. "Considering that we're soaking wet out here."
Bryan's eye twitched, but he held himself back and took a deep breath. "Look, now isn't the time for your clapbacks and antics, Jackran. We need to find a cave or something,"
Jackran huffed. He looked around and found one just behind some trees. "There,"
The boys quickly scampered into the cave, hiding the entrance with some branches. Bryan set to work making a campfire, gathering the necessities, including some rocks and dry twigs. He took out a lighter from his knapsack to light them up.
Jackran raised an eyebrow. "Why do you carry a lighter in your purse?"
"It's not a purse," Bryan corrected. "It's a knapsack,"
"Yeah, a male purse," Jackran crossed his arms. "Why a lighter?"
"In case I needed to stay the night," Bryan shrugged, pushing some dry logs. "I'm not... exactly an expert on making a campfire with rubbing the sticks,"
"I knew Mister smart guy had a weakness," Jackran chuckled, taking out an airpod and some earphones.
Bryan scoffed. "...And you just packed... that?"
"It helps me not listen to the storm," Jackran placed the earphones on his ears. "And your annoying voice,"
"Wow, you wouldn't survive a day here," Bryan rolled his eyes and looked to his knapsack. "Did you at least pack some food?"
Jackran didn't reply, bobbing his head to the music as he took out his tablet to play an offline game. Bryan glared but shook his head, turning back to his things.
"Guess not,"
He took out some berries he had picked up earlier and a small, flammable bowl. He placed the berries on the bowl before placing it on the fireplace. Jackran side-glanced him, giving him a look.
"You're cooking... berries?"
"Would you rather *cough* starve?" Bryan returned the look, coughing lightly.
Jackran rolled his eyes and looked back at his game. "Whatever."
Bryan sighed and went back to his cooking. As he did, he couldn't help but cough, his throat feeling sore. He even had to set the meal down to sneeze at another direction.
Jackran gagged. "Ew!" He shuddered. "You better not get germs into our food, Bryan!"
Bryan couldn't answer. He began to wheeze, trying to cough properly. He let out another sneeze, and he groaned, slumping forward at the blinding headache that followed after. Jackran's eyebrows furrowed. He set the tablet down and removed his earphones before moving over.
"What, don't tell me you're catching a cold..." he grumbled, grabbing a blanket from the knapsack to place around him. "How do you even get yourself into this?"
"...I must have taken out the umbrella late," Bryan chuckled in a hoarse voice, sniffling his snot as he cuddled with his blanket.
"Really? I didn't notice," Jackran set him aside. "Stay here, and I'll cook. We don't need you making us both sick." He went to grab the bowl to cook. He scoffed at the berries. "We really need more food..." he grabbed the marshmallows from the bag to add some to the dish.
"Hmm..." Bryan leaned against the wall, closing his eyes. The half-sun medallion glowed to help warm him up, and he smiled, letting slumber over take him.
When he awoke, a strong aroma filled the air. His sniffed the smell, his cold not as terrible as earlier. "Mm..." He forced himself up. "That smells delicious..."
"Here," Jackran placed down a paper plate with a mush of white. "You carried only marshmallows and berries, wow. I could barely work with them," he huffed and took a bite of his own plate.
"Sorry, I wasn't planning a storm," Bryan chuckled and grabbed the plastic spoon nearby. He took a bite, and his eyes sparkled. "Wow..."
"Yeah, yeah, no need to thank me," Jackran waved him off, placing his earphones back.
Bryan snorted. He finished his piece of the meal, and he smiled. "Thanks, Jackran..."
"Whatever," Jackran ate in peace, turning to the side to listen to his music once more.
The hours passed by. Bryan took out a book from his knapsack to pass the time after setting the paper plates to the side. Jackran was still listening to his music, the sound of the rain lessening as the hours go by, but it was still easy to hear without the headset.
Bryan soon heard soft snoring. He blinked and looked to where Jackran was laying. "Jackran?" He set his book down and crawled towards the other.
Jackran was curled up, hands on his chest as he snored. His tablet had low battery, and the airpod was slowly losing it's battery too, so it was no wonder the boy fell asleep.
Bryan had to admit... he looked cute while sleeping.
"Looks like someone needed a recharge himself," Bryan chuckled and gently removed the gadgets from the other boy. He placed them in his knapsack before taking out a blanket. He draped it over on Jackran. "There, so you don't get cold,"
Jackran groaned and snuggled the blanket, tugging on the cloth. The half-moon medallion glowed a faint blue, feeling it's wielder's resting form. The glow didn't seem to affect Jackran, only making him pull the blanket into a hug.
Bryan's eyes softened, moving lightly so the other couldn't hear him. He grabbed his blanket and snuggled himself within the cloth then he picked up his book again to continue reading.
He wasn't even halfway in when he felt himself pass out from the exhaustion, the fire continuing to burn inside the cave as they slumbered.
