Once Lei Qiu was sure that Bai Huiliang was asleep, he (LQ) quietly rolled over and called for Zheng Ai, the system that brought him here. 

“Zheng Ai?”

Almost immediately, the system showed up. [Ah~ Great host has called for me?] 

“En. Is there any way I can see a copy of the novel?”

And with that it was gone. Sighing, Lei Qiu opened the database and surely enough a copy of the novel was there. Opening it, he read a little and quickly found where he was in the story. Reading onward he went to the end of the chapter.

“Qiu Gege? What are you-”

“Shhh!” Lei Qiu put his hand over Bai Huiliangs mouth to quiet him, “Xiao Bai I’m just going to the kitchen ok? Tell Gege what you want, I’ll get it for you.”

Bai Huiliang shook his head vigorously “No! You got beat for that just yesterday! Gege-”

Grinning, Lei Qiu patted his (BH) back. “It’s alright. You need to eat something Xiao Bai. I’ll be very careful, I promise?”

After a moment of hesitation Bai Huiliang finally conceded. “Ok…”

Smiling cheerfully through the mud and dirt on his face, Lei Qiu ran off. After the sight of him receded into the distance, Bai Huiliang went back to working in the grain fields. Young Bai had no way of knowing that this would be the last time he ever saw his first and only friend alive. ”

Closing the novel in his mind, Lei Qiu’s face darkened. 

“...” Crying a thousand tears in my mind he thought to himself, “...I remember who this character is now. He’s one of the first factors that caused the Villain to blacken so much ah! After being sold off by his parents to repay their debts to the Kang family, Bai Huiliang had no one that cared about him in this world. That’s when Lei Qiu, who I am, met him! (BH). 

Lei Qiu’s mother was a servant at the Kang family estate but she died before her term was over. That’s why Lei Qiu was soon forced to start working so young to pay off whatever she owed to the family. The two of them being abused by such terrible people found solace in each other. They both cared for one another as neither of them had anyone left to care for them. That’s why the death of Lei Qiu affected Bai Huiliang so much. That was the last person he had left in this world. 

After Lei Qiu’s death, the villain faced many more troubles and hardships until he eventually lost all faith in humanity and went onto the path of destruction! He decided that if he were to rule over this part of the world then no one would ever be able to hurt or betray him ever again.”

Lei Qiu: sobs (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ ) ‧º

“This must absolutely be avoided!” 

For Bai Huiliangs sake (and his own) he absolutely wouldn’t die! On that last determined note, Lei Qiu went to sleep.

“Gege…”

Feeling a tug on his sleeve, Lei Qiu woke up after a bit of nagging. Groaning sleepily under his breath, “Huh? Xiao Bai?”

Sighing, Bai Huiling stood up and straightened out his clothes. “The house head left a note asking us to go into town for business.”

Huh?? “What business?” Lei Qiu combed through his hair and tightened his pony tail before standing up as well, taking the piece of paper being held in that kid's hand. Scanning over the notes contents, his (LQ) eyes narrowed further and further. 

What does he think we are?! Huh? We’re not some f*cking secretaries for you oh sir! This subordinate humbly requests that you take care of your matters, your own goddamn self!!

Swallowing his grief, Lei Qiu sighed and opened the shed door in preparation to leave. “Come on let's go quickly so that we can-” He paused as a thought occurred to him. “Xiao Bai? Are…you hungry?”

Confusion glimpsed Bai Huiliang’s face before being replaced by indignation. “No! Gege you-!”

“Ah~ Calm down, alright?” Waving his hand dismissively, Lei Qiu carried an unworried and even amused expression. The tip of his lip lifted up slightly, “Gege wont do anything that might hurt my Xiao Bai’s feelings.”

Blood filled little Bai’s face as his face flushed dark red and he shouted angrily, “Gege!”

“Sorry, sorry~” Truly too cute! 

Hurrying forward, Bai Huiliang walked away from Lei Qiu with haste and edged closer to the entrance of the estate. Lei Qiu laughed and quickened his footsteps, “Please wait!”

Entering the town, Lei’s Qiu senses were filled with scents and sights belonging solely to a world of this ancient setting. Feeling as if he accidentally wandered onto a movie set, Lei Qiu couldn’t help but look around with wonder. Seeing his (LQ) behavior, Bai Huiliang couldn’t help but tilt his head in confusion. 

“Gege? Is something wrong?”

Realizing how strange he must look to an outsider right now, Lei Qiu cleared his throat in embarrassment. “Nothing wrong…It just feels like it's been quite a while since I’ve been to town. Plus the food smells really good!”

Lowering his head, Bai Huiliangs long eyelashes concealed his gaze. “We don’t have any money…” Feeling guilty and mad that he (BH) was unable to do anything about it, Bai Huiliang turned away. 

Lei Qiu felt his mouth twitch upon seeing the obvious thoughts the little one was feeling. Before he knew what he was doing, Lei Qiu’s hand was already on top of little Bai’s head. Smiling he (LQ) stroked his (BH) hair comforting him. “It’s ok. We’ll figure it out.” In the next moment Bai Huiliang seemed to open his mouth and say something but Lei Qiu already couldn’t hear him. His mind was somewhere else entirely. A few yards in front of them stood a group of three men dressed in prim white robes. Looking handsome and as well kept as the weapons neatly placed on their person, anyone could tell from a mile away the identity of these men. 

Cultivators?! At this point in the story??

Not only were they cultivators of the righteous path but one could tell from the tassels adorned on their robes, as well as the quality of their clothes that they were no meager 1 or 2 small cultivators. These had to at least be ranking higher in power or seniority. 

[Confirming host’s suspicion! The cultivators in front of you are two high ranking senior disciples, Gao Tian and Su Meng, of Qingmen sect,  and their Sect leader and master Xia Yongrui.
