Company by their side wasn't a bad thing. Bryan found it to be quite enjoyable. He didn't mind being alone with Jackran, but being with his friends made him excited.
Couldn't say the same with the rest of his comrades.
Galilea looked wary. Her eyes scanned the area for any potential threat while she stayed as close to Bryan as possible. She hid her crystal behind her shirt but occasionally patted it to check if it was still there. Her other hand stayed in the pocket of her skirt, tugging on the cloth.
Klarissa was silent. Her eyes lingered around, but they weren't of caution. She seemed rather bored. She glanced at Bryan every once in a while, eyes sparkling every time she found the medallion. Bryan felt a bit self-conscious, and he hid the medallion in his shirt, much to her frustration.
Jackran was silent too. He stayed behind the group, eyes glaring at the girls. His hand was shaking, willing to grasp the half-moon medallion, in case something jumped to hurt them. In the end, he let the medallion shift into his bow and arrow, finding it more convenient for any attacks.
After a while, the air started to become hazy. With it, came an awful smell. "Ugh, what's that?" Jackran made a face.
"I think it's smoke," Bryan pointed out, blinking to try to see. "Or fog. Thick smog,"
"I can't see!" Galilea reached out her hands to find something or someone familiar.
"No kidding," Klarissa hissed, grabbing her hand to keep her close. "We need to get out of this smog."
"Do something, Bryan!" Jackran held onto the half-moon medallion.
"Why me!?" Bryan swallowed, trying to stay close to them.
"You have the sun! Shine your light!"
"...right," Bryan held his breath and nodded. "Let's... shine some light," He grasped the medallion with one hand and held out the other.
The medallion glowed yellow, it's magic flowing to his other hand. A ball of light started to form, his eyes glowing to the light of the trinket. He became a beacon, letting Jackran and his friends make their way towards him.
"It's working!" Galilea cheered.
"It really is working..." Klarissa hummed.
Jackran looked around. "But it's not enough!" He gritted his teeth. "You need to glow brighter!"
"I can't glow any brighter!" Bryan hissed. "It's already burning!"
"Jackran, maybe you can help!" Galilea told the other boy. "The sun's light reflects on the moon's surface, so maybe if you combine magic, you can clear the path!"
"Alright, alright," Jackran held his breath. "I'll try," He grasped the half-moon medallion and held out his other hand.
The medallion glowed purple, it's magic flowing to his free hand. A ball of light similar to the one in Bryan's hand formed, and Jackran felt his eyes glow with the trinket. Two sides of the area was free from fog, but they were still surrounded.
Klarissa gripped the other girl's hand. "It didn't work!"
"Not yet," Galilea shook her head, never minding the grip. She turned to the pair. "You have to combine your magic!"
"Will it work?" Bryan tightened his grip on his ball of light.
"It's worth a try," Galilea nodded.
Jackran sighed. "Fine." He held out his light. "Let's do this. Together."
Bryan smiled and nodded. He held out his own light, and together, they merged them. There was a flash of light, and they all had to turn away to avoid getting blinded.
When the light finally ceased, they were no longer in the forest. They found themselves out of the trees, and in front of them was a huge stone arc, with the words 'The Maze of Flames' on its flat surface.
"Woah..." Bryan rubbed his eyes. "We made it to the Maze of Flames! We're getting close to the temple!"
"...Fantastic." Klarissa gritted her teeth.
They moved forward towarrds the arc. Below it stood an alter with a big stone slab, where the words 'Beware of the Fire' were carved.
"Beware of the fire?" Bryan blinked. "What does that mean?"
Suddenly, a giant burst of flames came from the ground in front of them. "Yikes!" Galilea yelped. "How are we going to get across?"
"We run when it settles," Jackran prepared himself. "Come on."
Bryan nodded and went beside him, ready to run. The girls followed after, with Galilea beside Jackran and Klarissa beside Bryan. As soon as the fire ceased, they dashed forward, nearly hitting the alter as they passed it. Another burst of flames came after them, and they hid behind the altar to use as a shield. When the flames ceased again, they breathed out a sigh of relief.
"That was a close one," Galilea wiped a sweat from her forehead.
"When they called this the 'Maze of Flames', they weren't kidding," Bryan laughed.
"The fact that you find this situation hilarious is concerning," Jackran shook his head.
"At least we got past the front of the maze," Klarissa dusted herself off. "Time for the harder bit," She pointed forward.
They all looked forward and gasped at the sight in frontof them. The maze was filled with different tunnels and paths. Each path had a fiery wall to segragate them from each other but a simple touch from even a passing leaf, and the victim was burned in flames and reduced into ashes.
Bryan swallowed. "Um... maybe there's a way around the maze?"
"Sure, past the fire barrier," Jackran pointed to the fence of blue flame that surrounded the maze. "Good luck with that,"
"...well that settles that," Bryan took a breath and nodded. "Okay..." He looked back to his friends. "Any ideas?"
"I'm great at mazes in a cereal box!" Galilea chirped. "But not so much real mazes,"
"I'm not good with real mazes either," Klarissa sighed. "I already get lost in the school, much more in this fiery hell,"
Bryan winced. He turned to Jackran. "Well?"
"Hmm..." Jackran crossed his arms. "Maybe the half-sun medallion can put out the flames,"
"Literally fighting fire with fire?" Klarissa raised an eyebrow.
"Do you have any better ideas?" Jackran glared.
"I actually do; we leave." Klarissa shook her head. "We've obviously overstayed our welcome here, and the flames at the front is a warning that we'll only put ourselves in deeper danger!"
"But, Klara, if we don't do this, the world will be destroyed!" Bryan pointed out. "We need to do this mission!"
"I mean, you two can leave," Jackran scoffed. "The prophecy only needs me and Bryan to take the Prism and the destroy the Curse of Darkness,"
Galilea held Klarissa's hand. "Yeah... I think we should leave," she nodded. "This place isn't really doing well for you mentally-"
"Don't you pull this on me, Galilea." Klarissa hissed, her voice low so only the girl could hear her before she snatched her hand back.
Galilea winced but glared in return. She watched as Bryan and Jackran move forward to try to figure out to how move through. As soon as they were far enough, she grabbed the other girl again. "I won't let you go through with this." she gritted her teeth.
"So you really did do this to me." Klarissa scowled. "You traitor."
"You were the one who started this."
"We had a deal."
"And you took it too far." Galilea shook her head. "The deal was simple, and you took it too far."
"As if you're some kind of saint." Klarissa spat out. "You're the reason this is happening to them."
Galilea swallowed but she didn't falter. Instead, she crossed her arms. "At least I'm doing this because I know what's best. All you want... is power."
"And revenge." Klarissa's fist shook. "Or do I have to remind you that I did this all for you... my dear..." She held her arm with a tight grip.
Galilea winced but returned the glare. She yanked her arm back and shoved her away in time as Bryan returned to them. "Guys! Jackran and I've figured it out!" he beamed. "Hold onto us, and we'll get through this maze in no time!"
Klarissa scowled at the other's smug expression. She huffed and walked to hold his shoulder. Galilea happily held onto Jackran's back, watching as the medallions began to float once more. The eyes of the boys glowed a bright white, and they held each other's hands.
"Magic of Day and Night, show us the path with all your might."
The medallions glowed a bright white, matching their eyes. Galilea and Klarissa gasped, watching as a bright path fell from their hands and onto the floor, stretching through the maze. Their grips rightened on the boys as the light over took them before speeding off through the lit up path.
