Chapter 6:
Age of Solstice, 16:71
Tulasquss, Drazul's Plane
Whisper woke at first light to visit her mother's grave again before heading back for breakfast. She ate together with Drazul, sharing a light breakfast, enjoying the glorious view. Whisper was feeling better, feeling relieved after seeing her mother's grave. She didn't realize how at ease she would feel especially since she can freely visit her whenever she liked. She also thought about her conversation yesterday with Drazul, pondering what Drazul told her. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that she was the one who summoned Drazul. With the way Drazul described it, it seems impossible for a girl from the slums to be able to achieve it.
She must have been the exception somehow.
Still, she wanted to finish their conversation. She remembered Drazul would continue next time. Perhaps she'd be willing now that they've finished their breakfast? Whisper removed both of their dishes and moved them to the kitchen and returned, watching the bright morning light shine through the window. Drazul had a habit of basking in the morning light everyday in the dining room, though Whisper has found herself doing the same. It really is one of the best rooms in the cottage.
Taking a seat closest to Drazul, she turned to face her, signing,
"Drazul, could ya tell me more about'cha self? What is a Dream Maiden?"
Drazul turned to face her, recalling her promise. She cleared her throat, preparing herself to speak,
"It's a name given to me by other witches. I am a higher being, an immortal cursed with unbelievable abilities. Once they discovered my existence and my powers, they called me by many names since. Dream Maiden is my most common name among them. They believe I was touched by the Triple Goddess, but I cannot confirm their suspicions." Drazul lifted her hand towards the window, making it dance around the sun's rays as she sat comfortably.
Whisper tilt her head,
Drazul shook her head,
"Correct. I am alone, at least, until you called for me. That's where the mystery deepens."
Whisper ran her hand through her hair, thinking a moment,
"Were ya born this way? Was I?"
Drazul shrugged,
"I was born with my telekinetic and telepathic abilities. However, I was graced with this 'blessing' of immortality. You, however, most likely. Though you do not seem to be immortal, like I." Drazul sat upright and regal in her chair as she said so.
Whisper leaned into her dining chair, staring out the window,
"If that's true, then my mother wasn't square with me was she?"
Drazul shrugged again,
"We can never know." After a pause, Drazul took an opportunity to ask questions of her own.
"Whisper, now that you are able to tell me, what is your true name?"
Whisper paused. A smile, stifling a chuckle, had crossed her face as she looked to Drazul,
"Whisper."
Drazul's brows furrowed, leaning forward, her hand closing into a fist.
"Lies."
Whisper shook her head,
"Back then, I grilled my ma about it. She was chinnin' that I entered the world dormy with 'naught but a whisper.'" Whisper twinkled her fingers in the air jokingly, chuckling.
Drazul leaned into her chair, stunned. Whisper laughed, her breaths cute as she huffed,
"I was also hinky at first but you hit true! Though before, I couldn't put'cha wise."
Drazul shook her head in disbelief,
"What incredible foresight I seem to possess."
Drazul rested her chin in her hand, still in disbelief. To think she came up with Whisper's name in such a manner similar to her mother. For some reason, Drazul felt warmth swell in her chest. Then she looked to Whisper, her eyes falling upon her eye patch,
Drazul motioned to her eye, "Whisper, what of your eye? Have you tried taking a look?"
Whisper shuddered, startled by her question,
"I don't have the stomach to look at it." Whisper squirmed in her seat.
Drazul rolled her eyes, "Come, your eye is healed and I'd like to confirm my thoughts."
Whisper inched her chair closer to Drazul and watched as Drazul raised her hands to remove her eye patch. Whisper clutched her scarf, unsure of why she was afraid but it was soon soothed by Drazul's cool hands caressing her face,
"Now, open."
Whisper's eye twitched as she slowly opened her right eye. Whisper's eye's widened, surprised, as she found her eyesight was intact as she was staring at Drazul with both eyes. She quickly reacted, her hands swift in response,
"My eye! I can see!!" Whisper was cupping her face, grinning.
She was feeling incredibly happy that her eye was no longer lost. Drazul watched her, eyeing the purple flame the size of her thumb, flickering from Whisper's socket. Before she could stop her, Whisper dashed to the nearest washroom, expecting to see her eye but was stunned to find fire in its place. Though there was flame, her socket was a pitch black void. Her flame flickered and lit up around her face, then slowly grew smaller as her mood shifted.
Drazul caught up with her, finding her staring at her reflection. She also noticed the flame grow smaller. Whisper turned her eyes towards her, through the mirror, signing,
"What..."
Whisper couldn't finish her question. She lost her words, unable to turn away from her reflection. Drazul leaned against the doorway, allowing Whisper a few moments to process it. Whisper hadn't truly gotten a real look at herself since she arrived. She didn't have mirrors growing up and when they did, they were broken or looked at in passing. Now, though, she's really looking at herself. Her skin was pale, her freckles standing out as they were speckled across her cheeks. Her remaining eye was pink and her scar, which was also odd, was also purple, much like her flame. She gently grazed her fingers against her features.
After some thought, she came to the conclusion that she looks wicked. She turned to Drazul, a smile creeping in,
"I look like the cat's meow now! Did ya know about this?" Whisper signed, feeling good about herself.
Drazul shook her head, relieved to see Whisper is fine,
"I had an inkling but you never removed your eye patch and it only occurred to me to ask now."
Whisper, curious, was touching her purple flame with a finger, watching it pass over as she felt only warmth but no burning sensation,
"I ne'er thought I'd be able to see through my own two eyes."
Drazul raised a brow, signing at her through the mirror,
"What do you mean by that?"
Whisper looked at her, nodding along with her words,
"I've always been blind in my right eye. Now, it ain't the case. Feel's odd, though. I lost something I loved, but ya gifted me sight in return. It feels conflictin', but I am mostly grateful."
Drazul smiled, something quite rare to see in Whisper's eyes. She smiled, too and turned to face Drazul completely,
"Are there any plan's for today?"
