It was by twilight when a hatch opened on the temple roof. Jackran and Galilea were thrown out, landing on the flat surface with a thud. Jackran gasped as the hatch closed behind them. "That... is a ride that I'm never going on again!" He gritted his teeth.
"Wohoo!" Galilea jumped to her feet. Her crystal bounced out of her shirt, glowing at her cheer. "Let's do that again!"
"Oh hell no!" Jackran glared at the girl. "This adventure has been dangerous from the getgo, Galilea, stop acting like it's all fun and games!"
"Well, sorry if I think it is!" Galilea huffed. "You're still as much of a killjoy as ever!"
"Killjoy? For being cautious over something this-" Jackran paused, watching the crystal suddenly change it's glow to fiery blue. "What...?"
Galilea tilted her head. "What?"
Jackran didn't reply. Instead, he snatched the crystal from her and placed it around his neck. Galilea gasped, the boy to quick for her to react.
"Wait-"
The crystal ceased it's color, turning silver. Galilea froze, watching the boy frown and remove the crystal from his neck. He held it close to the girl, and it glowed orange. He moved it back to him, and it returned to silver. He gritted his teeth and glared.
"You know more than what you let on... don't you?"
"I..." Galilea swallowed. "Jack-"
She choked as the boy suddenly grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up. She hissed, glancing weakly down at Jackran, whose face was red in rage. The half-moon medallion fiercely glowed greenish-purple while his eyes turned full-on white.
"Tell me the truth, Galilea! You know more about this, I know you do!"
"I..." Galilea coughed. "Jackran, please... *cough* let me... let me expl-"
"Ack!" Jackran was pushed away, releasing Galilea from his hold. The glow of his eyes and the medallion ceased, but his rage never faltered, glaring up the other. "Klarissa..."
Klarissa was facing him halfway, an arm and hand stretched out towards him. She glared down at him, her blood red crystal glowing while her other arm stretched in front of Galilea. "Don't... touch her." She growled, venom present in her voice.
"Don't tell me what to do." Jackran stood up. The medallion glowed once more. "You're not the boss of me."
"You wouldn't hurt us." Klarissa grinned. "Not with him around."
"Klarissa?" Bryan's voice echoed from the open door of the tunnel. "Jackran? Galilea?" He made it out, and he glanced at the three. His confusion turned to distress, walking towards them quickly. "Jackran, what's going on? What did you do?" He questioned
"Oh, I'm the one who did wrong?" Jackran narrowed his eyes. "Never tried asking the girls now, right?"
"Well, yes," Bryan gritted his teeth. "Klarissa doesn't get defensive unless provoked."
"Of course, because you know your friends so well." Jackran scoffed. "You don't even know that they know more than they're letting on."
"Why the hell would you think that, Jackran?" Bryan's eyebrows furrowed. "They've done nothing but help us out and keep us company!"
"Help? When did they 'help'?" Jackran crossed his arms. "And we didn't need their company. We would have survived without them, but that's not my point," He huffed. "Have you ever thought about it at least once? They just happened to find us in the middle of nowhere. No trails, no crumbs to where we might be, nothing."
"I... The forest is the only other place they didn't check," Bryan argued. "Common-"
"No, Bryan, it's not common sense!" Jackran yelled. "In no way has it ever been common sense. Neither of us have any history with going into that forest. If anything, it's not even allowed!"
Bryan paused. Klarissa gritted her teeth, but she managed to hold herself back. She took a breath and held onto her arm, faking a fall. Bryan snapped towards her before running.
"Klarissa!"
Galilea stared, watching as the boy helped Klarissa up. The other girl breathed out a sigh of relief, and Galilea gawked as a burn was sizzling on her arm.
What was she doing?
"What happened!?" Bryan hissed. He looked up. "Jackran, did you hurt Klarissa!?"
"Bryan, are you freaking stupid right now!?" Jackran's eye twitched. "I have the moon medallion! If anything, you would have burned her!"
"But I didn't and I wouldn't!" Bryan growled and stood up. "And you deflected the question!"
"Not to mention..." Klarissa feigned a whimper. "The moon can reflect the light and heat of the sun..."
"Yeah!" Bryan agreed. "What, you think I'd be stupid to fall for your lies and the accusations you throw at my friends!?"
"You're stupid either way," Jackran rolled his eyes. "You're really falling for Klarissa's act."
"It's not an act! Stop telling me it's all an act! Just stop it!" Bryan shook his head. "You keep accusing them for things that aren't true!"
"And what proof do you have that what they're saying is true!?" Jackran demanded. "You'd really rather take their word than mine!? Them who don't even have a reason to be here!?"
"You've never given me a reason to even believe you!" Bryan shrieked. "You've done nothing but argue with me and repeatedly scold me like I'm some... child!"
"Maybe stop acting like a child, and I'd treat you better!" Jackran scoffed.
"And you still wonder why I don't believe you!?" Bryan hissed. "It's hard to believe you! You've done nothing but give me reasons to be ashamed of you!"
"Be..." Jackran frowned. "I thought you said that you weren't."
"Well, I take it back," Bryan glared. "Because I am!"
Jackran held his breath, teeth gritting. He moved forward and slapped the boy the other, sending him down. Galilea gasped.
"Bryan!"
Bryan coughed, his cheek stinging. He glanced up with a sharp glare. "What? Is that all you got?"
Jackran didn't respond. He walked forward and knelt down to meet his eye level. "You'll never be the hero you want to be." He spat out before getting up to walk away.
Bryan gritted his teeth. He forced himself up and rubbed his arm, glaring at the other. "And you should have been dead."
Jackran stopped in his tracks. His fists shook, but he managed to hold himself steady. "I wish I was."
The half-moon medallion glowed, and his eyes shone an icy blue before he was swallowed up by his own shadow before speeding away from the temple.
Bryan watched him leave, his heart clenching painfully in his chest. He placed a hand on his face as he trembled. What... why did I....?
A hand was placed on his shoulder. "You did the right thing," Klarissa assured him. "Now, come on. Let's get to that Prism Stone,"
Galilea gave her a look, but couldn't say anything as she dragged her to move forward. Bryan followed after them, hands trembling as he hugged himself.
What have I done?
"Ack!"
Jackran yelped as his shadow clashed with the barrier. He was released, landing on the ground with a gasp. He touched his hand, wincing at the liquid dripping down. He hissed and forced himself up.
"Let me out!"
He slammed a fist onto the barrier. He hissed and continued to hit it non-stop, tears streaming down his cheeks before falling down to his knees.
Let me out, let me out, let me out, let me out-
He fell to the floor, curling up. He hugged his knees to his chest, sniffling his tears as he trembled.
I'm sorry...
"Wait, what?" Bryan scratched his head.
"You need me to repeat?" Klarissa raised an eyebrow.
"No, just-" Bryan hummed. "How did you know all of this?"
"Uh-huh," Klarissa nodded.
"And how do you know all this?"
"I read a book about it in the library," Klarissa shrugged. "And I watched a couple of adventure movies with scenes like this. It's kinda obvious,"
"I guess..." Bryan took a deep breath. "Alright..."
Galilea hissed, but Klarissa's glare shut her up. They watched as the boy stepped forward, reaching out his hand as he closes his eyes. The medallion glowed a bright red, and a beam of white light flickering above. A red glow came from Klarissa's shirt, and she snickered, removing the crystal to watch it glow.
"There it is..."
Galilea's eyes widened, backing up from them. She watched as the albino prism lowered itself onto the palm of the boy. Bryan felt the tip of the prism, and he opened his eyes, which had glowed yellow at the touch. He gasped at the Prism Stone, watching as it slowly lowered in his hands. He reached out his other hand, palms glowing pink. The prism landed on his hands, a shiver running down his spine at the cold surface of the radiant stone.
"Amazing..." He dragged his fingers across the prism's surface. "It's so colorful-"
CRACK!
Bryan's eyes widened, watching in horror as the Prism Stone was kicked out of from his hold. He yelped at the shards that fell onto his hands, backing up and falling to the ground. His eyes lost their glow, and the half-sun medallion showed a small fracture on it's surface. His bloody hands were shaking, eyes shrinking as he stared up at the perpretrator.
"K-Klarissa...?"
The girl didn't respond, eyes glowing fierce red as her hair grew long, slowly turning orange. The crystal around her neck was glowing fiercely, floating up while her skin slowly started to turn gold. "Oh, sweet, naive, Bryan Gonzales..." Her voice was sickeningly sweet as she spoke. "A hero to us all... always caring for the mortals... well..." She smirked. "That's what he wanted... but I suppose not all stories come true."
She began to laugh, her ponytail collapsing to let out her wild, long hair. She began to grow in size until she was as tall as a giant, her eyes turning completely red while her crystal necklace disappeared from her neck. It reappeared into her own hands, transforming into a sword.
Bryan managed to snap out of it when the sword was aimed and raised at him. The medallion glowed, allowing it to transform into his kunais as he raised them up to deflect the blade. He growled, using all of his strength to push her away.
"You were my friend, Klara!" he yelled, upset. "How could you... what even are you!?"
"Take a wild guess, hero." Klarissa raised her sword. "Or should I raise the demons to give you a hint of who I truly am?"
"The..." Bryan breathed out a shaky breath. "You're... her..."
"That's right." The girl's smile sharpened. "I am Goddess Day, creator of the demons, caster of the Prophecy of Darkness!" She swung the kunais out of his hands and kicked him down.
Bryan gasped, shaking as she raised her sword. He struggled to escape, but the goddess took the swing before he could try. He let out a scream when the blade slashed his face.
"Bryan!" Galilea ran to help.
"Oh no, you don't!" The goddess conjured up a bubble crystal ball in her hands and threw it at the girl, the crystal ball swallowing her up.
Bryan had his eyes shut as he whimpered. He forced himself to lay on his stomach, hissing when he felt the thick liquid flowing down his cheeks. The kunais reformed into the medallion, flying quickly to wrap it's strings around his neck as Goddess Day picked up the crystal ball.
"Pathetic mortals." She scowled, flicking her sword away. She picked up the boy by the hair, lifting him up. "When you think you could save the world and take me down. Now, look at you... weak and pathetic." She smirked. "Defeated, like the mortal that you are."
She flung the boy up and far away from the temple with a flick of her finger. She chuckled and held the crystal ball in her hands, rubbing the surface to reveal Galilea inside.
"Silly Night," Day snickered, sitting on a slab of stone rising on the temple's roof. "You truly thought you could outsmart me and rule over with your own silly little prophecies."
"I never wanted to rule over you, dear." Galilea hissed. "Neither do I want the mortals to be hurt. Besides, the Curse of Darkness is too powerful for only one of us to handle alone now that it's released. What if it destroys us too? It came from my illness. It could consume and corrupt anyone in this world, including us,"
"Aww, how cute..." Day cooed. "You're so protective, my sweet Night... And so informative." She smirked. "Shall we test your theory then?"
Galilea's eyes widened. "Theory? It's not a theory, Day! It's a fact! Please listen-!"
But Day wasn't listening. Instead, she set the crystal ball down on the temple roof and turned to gather up the Curse of Darkness into her hands. The darkness crawled up her hands, growing and expanding as they corrupted her torso. An evil smile crept up in her face, feeling her power grow with every touch of the curse.
"It's working!" She rejoiced. "I can feel it's power! It feels amazing!" She let out a wicked laugh.
Galilea watched in terror as her beloved slowly allowed herself to get corrupted by the curse. She whimpered and curled up within the crystal ball.
"What have I unleashed...?"
