Siren looked at the rows of suit lapels displayed inside the glass box. Her eyes followed the unique designs, ranging from small and classy to big and grand. The store offered a variety of designs including quills, flowers, leaves, and initials of names, but nothing caught her attention.
"Ma'am, would you like to take a look at some of the exquisite pieces our store has? Perhaps you will find something to your liking," the salesman suggested professionally.
Siren nodded, and the man brought out a rectangular wooden box, opening it to reveal a series of lapel pins arranged neatly inside.
Siren's eyes immediately went to the last lapel placed in the corner of the box. It was a wolf symbol in a mix of silver and black, with shining blue diamonds for eyes that sparkled brightly.
Her eyes lingered on the features and craftsmanship of the lapel pin for a long time. The diamonds embedded in the eyes of the wolf gave it a menacing and calculating gaze, as if waiting to hunt its prey at the right moment.
"It will suit him," was the first thought that came to her mind.
Aiden, who had been looking around the store, turned to see his mother staring at something intently. He ran towards her and tugged at her jeans.
"Mommy, did you choose it?" he asked her.
"Hmm. I did. Wanna see?"
Siren asked the man to take the lapel and show it to him. Aiden looked at his mom’s selection and nodded his head in approval.
“Daddy will definitely like this!” he exclaimed.
Siren nodded and told the man to pack the lapel. Once it was packed, Siren took out her wallet and looked at the three black cards inside it. One was given to her by Alex, one belonged to her, and the other was given to her by Raven on the day of their marriage registration.
If any women in the city saw this, they would absolutely die of jealousy.
Yet Siren didn’t mind the other two cards and took out her own to pay the bill. The girl at the counter widened her eyes when she saw the black card. She smiled extra politely at Siren, swiped the card, and handed over the package to her.
Once they purchased the gift, Siren took Aiden to the shed. With only a week left until the wedding, Alex was busy with wedding preparations, and Siren was overseeing every task in the shed. If she became occupied with wedding plans, Sam or Ruth would come and take turns to see the works in the shed.
The shed had been busy for the past few days. Hearing that the owner’s daughter was going to be the bride of the prestigious Grey family, even customers with simple flat tires or needing pins came to their shed just to catch a glimpse of the bride.
At one point, Alex got frustrated, so he hired a bodyguard to guard the shed and only let real customers in. He also decided not to take any new customers for a month until Siren’s wedding.
Meanwhile, they were busy preparing the cars for "Velocity," one of the biggest car racing teams in the country. It was the largest project Alex had gotten through his hard work. Siren was in charge of tuning the racer’s cars. With the project deadline approaching, Siren had been working on it and wanted to finish before the wedding.
Aiden sat obediently at the side, eagerly watching his mom work on her tablet. His eyes widened as the powerful roar of the car echoed in the shed.
In the afternoon, Siren took him to Ms. Pakpao’s restaurant for lunch. Pakpao was thrilled to see her favourite little man with Siren. She immediately pinched Aiden’s cheek and brought him into the kitchen to show him off to the workers.
Aiden stayed obediently in her arms, as if he was used to it. It was true, as Alex often brought him to this place under the guise of buying his favourite fruit jelly cake. Therefore, Aiden was almost familiar with the people here.
People cooed at him for being cute, but all he did was blink at them with a lack of enthusiasm.
Once lunch was ready, Pakpao brought Aiden to the table and served the dish for both him and Siren. She took a seat along with them and helped feed Aiden. Initially, Aiden disliked being fed like a small child, but now he started to enjoy it. He leisurely sat there and ate, with the food served right to his mouth.
Pakpao was content seeing the little man enjoying the food. She turned to Siren and asked, "It's been quite a few days since I last saw Alex. Where is he?"
Siren gulped down the mushroom barley soup and wiped the corner of her mouth with a tissue before replying, "He's been busy with wedding preparations, but I'm sure he is missing you too." Ms. Pakpao blushed and chided her softly, “Don’t tease me. By the way, leave the wedding cake to me.”
Siren nodded, “Then I'll have to trouble you.”
“Come on, it's no trouble at all,” Pakpao said nonchalantly and asked Aiden, “What flavour does my little man want?” Aiden replied without a moment's gap, “Jelly fruit cake.”
Pakpao laughed loudly and ruffled his hair, “Unfortunately, we couldn’t do that for a wedding, but I'll make you a special fruit jelly for you.”
Aiden replied with a simple “Oh” and resumed eating by himself as the women chatted about the upcoming wedding, with Siren simply replying with "hmm" or often with a nod.
After finishing their lunch, Siren headed towards the Grey’s mansion to drop off Aiden, then returned to the shed to continue her work.
It was almost past midnight when Siren finally finished in the shed. The workers had been tirelessly working for the past two weeks and had almost exhausted their energy. Fortunately, they had almost finished their work before the deadline.
Siren instructed them to take a rest for a while before continuing their work. She then took her bike and drove towards the Grey mansion. When she entered the house, the butler was still awake and welcomed her. She informed him that she had dinner outside and told him to rest.
Totally exhausted from the day's work, she headed straight towards the master bedroom. The butler informed her that Aiden was already asleep in his own room and she didn’t want to disturb him.
As she stepped into the room, darkness enveloped her. Sweaty from the day's work, her first thought was to take a quick shower. Just as she reached for the light switch, she heard the door lock with a click.
“You're late”
A deep baritone voice echoed in the room, halting her in her steps.
Siren's heartbeat quickened. "Didn’t he say he would return only after two days?" she wondered.
Turning around, she saw a silhouette of a man leaning against the door, arms folded across his chest. The moonlight streaming through the window illuminated half of his face, revealing his handsome features and mesmerising forest green eyes, while the other half remained hidden in shadow.
Raven pushed himself off the door and walked towards her. He raised his hands and reached past Siren to flip the switch and illuminate the room. As his fingers lightly brushed against her ears, Raven couldn't help but notice her flinch, causing his lips to raise slightly.
“Why are you so late?” Raven asked, making no move to retract his hand. Instead, he placed it against the wall, his arm still lightly brushing against her ears.
Annoyed by the itchiness, Siren moved her head to the left to avoid his hands, but before she could, Raven caged her within his both arms, smirking at her.
“Answer, darling,” he whispered in his deep, husky voice.
The tip of Siren's ears started to turn red as she glared at him with her icy blue eyes. "Worked at the shed," she replied monotonously.
“Hmm. This late?” He asked, showing no intention of letting her go.
“Alex got a contract with Velocity, and the deadline is approaching, so I took extra hours to work in the shed,” she spat angrily, pushing his hand away from the wall before heading straight to the shower.
Raven chuckled and watched her angry retreating figure.
