Chapter Thirty-Three: Him, Again
Estelle
Hana became one of the nurses that took care of me and other than Sophie, I would often hang out with her in the hospital lobby.
"So what did you dream last night?" she asked after taking a bite from her bread.
During her night visits to me, most of the time, she would find me in a state of having a bad dream. She's also the one who wakes me up because we don't know what can happen if she leaves me be.
Maybe the bad dreams might eat me away.
She would often ask what I would dream about and when I told her some of it, she became invested. Leading me to become her storyteller.
I think it's better compared to her nagging about the other patient she's attending to. The problematic one.
"I'm dancing in a hall with someone. I don't know but he seems like a prince," I started.
"A prince?!"
"Yes. Then I am wearing something with a golden color. My best guess for now is that I may be a noble or a princess myself."
"Well, that escalated quickly. In past dreams of yours, you said you work at an inn and then you're now a freaking noble? How on earth!" she stated which made me nod.
I feel like there are also scenes that are missing. For example, it feels like I am talking to someone, a man, but I can't even see his face properly.
Along with it, I also experienced some headaches sometimes though Dr. Recio would always say that there's nothing wrong with me. Maybe I should just stop over-analyzing and worrying about things so much and let my mind just rest.
My conversation with Hana was postponed when suddenly another nurse, in her mid-30s came up to Hana while panting so hard.
"I've been looking for you!"
"Why? What's wrong?" Hana asked and I did too. The nurse pointed the hallway's direction where my room was located.
"Your kid is in trouble again!" the nurse said and Hana didn't even flinch but I did. "He broke the bed of one of the VIP patients. Worse, that VIP is a grumpy one."
I looked at the nurse and then gazed at Hana with wide eyes. Unlike me, Hana just kept her poker face but gradually increased the sip from the straw of her juice.
"The one who got into an accident yesterday and became temporarily limp?"
The nurse nodded. Hana scratched her head.
"Aish!" she muttered and started walking furiously. The nurse tailed her so I did, too.
"Can I tag along?" I asked while still trying to catch up with Hana's phase. "I still have almost an hour left before my appointment with Dr. Mendez."
"Alright," she replied to me and asked the nurse between us a question, "What room was it?"
"1407."
"Just right beside his room?! No wonder he entered the room so easily. That old man didn't know his reputation here."
1407? Then that room is just six rooms away from mine. I'm at 1401.
When we get nearer and nearer, we can hear the complaints coming from a man. The moment we entered the room, two nurses were trying to calm him down while a familiar face with a weary look was standing just right beside the door.
"Conrad! What did you do this time?" Hana said and pitched his right ear.
"Ah! Ah! Let go. You're tearing my ear!" Conrad said and tiptoed so that he could be inches taller than Hana and that she'd eventually let him go. He's almost towering all of us so he won. Hana let him go.
"So what did you do?" Hana asked.
"I just helped him with his curtains. These two nurses right there are too short for curtain placements, you see."
"I called someone for help and Anna here went to the lobby to get something we can step on then—" The male nurse answered but was cut off by Conrad.
"Then I just happened to be the perfect guy for the job!" Conrad proudly said. If I were to analyze him right now, he's shining with glitters on how proud he is of himself.
"And he casually stepped on my bed and broke it!" the man said furiously.
Now that my attention was caught by him, he's tall, too. I think he's taller than Conrad and he has a nice build.
Woah, look at those tattoos. Is he some kind of a gangster or something?
"I'm so sorry for his behavior, sir," Hana apologizes on behalf of Conrad who's just impatiently stomping his feet and roaming his eyes inside the room. Both of us flinched when our eyes suddenly met.
"If I'm not in this condition, I would give him a blow," the man said and acted like he was about to throw a punch.
"Too bad, limp."
"You fuc-kaejrhfkjdsg!"
The old man wasn't able to continue his cursing when the male nurse covered his mouth. However, the anger is still really visible in his eyes.
Hana took it as an opportunity to drag Conrad away from that room. I immediately got out first.
"I'll let the madam know about this one."
"Madam?!" the man replied.
"This silly man's mother," Hana replied and for the last time before closing the door, she said, "We're really sorry again."
A minute of silence filled between the three of us. Conrad took a deep breath, and so did Hana.
"What are you, a child?" Hana asked but it is evident in her voice that she was pissed. After all, her job is on the line here.
"Practically, yes. I just turned 18," he said and rolled his eyes.
"Stop with the sarcastic remarks. Ugh!"
Hana pushed him so we started walking. We stopped in front of the room just right next to the one that we came out, to.
Room 1408.
"Oh, we're just in one—"
"What is she even doing here?" Conrad cut off my sentence and crossed his arms.
"Why? Bothered with my presence?" I answered sarcastically.
He started it.
The man earlier looked so cool, too yet this Conrad guy answered him sarcastically.
Dear Mister Room 1407,
I hope you'll get well soon and beat this guy to a pulp.
Always rooting for you,
Miss Room 1401
Hana cleared her throat and opened the door so that he could push Conrad inside.
"Doctor Ramirez will be here in around 20 minutes," Hana said while still pushing Conrad inside. "Ah, before I forget. You're also not gonna leave this room until next week."
"What?! Who told you that you can do this to me? A mere nurse cannot—"
"Your mom..." Hana said and he was silenced, "She said that I can do this to you if you create another mess again."
"Stepmother! Not Mother. Fuck it," he said and slammed the door right in front of our face. I can hear him locking it also aggressively.
"That's wild," I said. Hana nodded.
"Just pray for me to not lose this job. Even though I already want to quit."
The both of us are still staring at the door.
"It's hard to be a slave to capitalism, huh?"
"You're more than right."
We both sighed and laughed at each other after what happened. That Conrad is on another level of rudeness and no shame.
"That's it for today's session," Dr. Mendez, who's also my Aunt Alberta, said as she put down the paper that she using to assess me.
"Ah, praise!" I said and stretched both of my arms.
"Mom! Estelle! Ah, I'm so sorry I just got here. The traffic was crazy," Sophie said as she entered the room.
"It's not like you're the one who'll interview Estelle," Aunt jokingly said as she started to pack her things. Sophie just rolled her eyes and sat with right next to me on my bed.
"So how was it?" Sophie asked. I just shrugged my shoulders and smiled at her.
"It was okay," I said.
"Okay like?" she asked again as if she wanted me to elaborate on my answers further.
"Stop it, Sophia. She's doing better based on her results. Don't pressure her into your mind games again," Aunt said and stood up.
"Will you be joining me?"
"Yes, I need to go home early today. But first, I'll just need some bonding with my dear Estelle here. Just give me like 20 minutes?" Sophie replied with pleading eyes. Aunt Alberta just nodded and headed to the door.
"Before I forget, our session will end this week. You're fine, Estelle," she said and gave me a sweet smile before closing the door.
With that, the entertainment with Sophie began. She started talking about the updates regarding the class that both of us are in. She would also show me some past notes that I have to catch up and she asked for some notes from my classmates in the other subjects.
She's so thoughtful! I'm so lucky to be friends with her... or not!
"You know what, I think it's okay if you'll stay here for another month," she said as she handed me the notes. My brows furrowed.
"What? Why?" I asked in confusion.
"Because you know, I replaced you at Café Estella in the meantime right?" she signed me to get closer to her and she whispered in a flirty voice, "Boss Jeremy's nephew is so cute!"
I slightly pull her hair. "Ah, so you want me to rot in this hospital?"
"Of course not! And hey, I just got my hair fixed yesterday," she said while gently combing her hair using her fingers. "But I'm just really pissed by his name."
"Why? What's his name?"
"Austin," she said and both of us started laughing like crazy.
Austin, the zoo panda?
