Chapter 6: Ruthless

Chapter 6: Ruthless

May 18, 2024

Monuo took a moment, looking at her, and said, "From now on, she's your mom."

Upon hearing this, Youying smirked triumphantly. Before she could revel in her victory, Monzhanyan suddenly interjected, "I only got one mom, and she's lying in the hospital, basically a vegetable."

"Hey! Look..."

Monuo was trembling with anger, commanding, "From now on, that woman in front of you is your mom, whether you like it or not."

"Oh?" Monzhanyan took a step closer to the woman, lowering her voice but sending shivers down spines, "What makes you think you have the right to be my mom? You haven't even secured the position yet, and you're already trying to take over. Just because you drove my mom to her death, you think you can sit comfortably in that spot? Haven't I given you an answer yet?" With that, she suddenly grabbed the woman's neck and kicked her in the stomach, sending her flying several meters away. A chilling scream echoed as the woman bled profusely from beneath her, her face drained of color as she muttered, "My child... No... My child."

Monuo was completely caught off guard by her sudden attack, his eyes widened in shock, his heart aching. How could his son be gone like this? He reached out to slap her, but Monzhanyan swiftly grabbed his hand, a smirk playing on her lips, "If that woman's kid is gone, you've got only me, your one and only daughter. Are you sure you want to hit me?"

"You brat! You little brat!" Monuo's hands were shaking with rage, his coughing fit nearly choking him. He somehow managed to pull out a gun from somewhere, pointing it at her head.

Monzhanyan remained indifferent, lips curling into a sneer. Stepping up to the woman again, she kicked her once more, then looked up at Monuo coldly, "This brat is also your spawn, isn't she?" She stared down at the bleeding figure beneath her, a cruel smile playing on her lips as she continued, "You think this position is rightfully yours? These kicks are just a warning. You dare conceive, I dare kill. You're destined to have only one ruthless daughter for life. I die, you're extinct." With that, she turned and left.

Monuo stood there, lips trembling, unable to speak. In his mind, that woman brought this upon herself. She knew he hated deception more than anything. Anyone who dared deceive him would pay the price. But his daughter was indeed somewhat like him, although not a son. Her eyes gleamed with a light that hid her emotions well.

Monzhanyan, standing by the window, exuded loneliness and desolation. Turning to look at him, she asked, "Father, why are you so fixated on having a son? Is a daughter not good enough? Just because I'm a daughter and not a son, you had my mom forcibly sent to a mental hospital? Ignored my life and death, let me suffer in prison for five years? Was all your previous affection for me fake? Was my mom wrong? Was she?" Her voice choked, her lips pale. "In my eyes, her biggest mistake was loving you. She spent her whole life for you, but what did she get in the end?"

Monuo was speechless, his lips trembling with emotion. He didn't know, his eyes narrowing. He just hated being deceived.

"These past five years, in prison, I suffered worse than death. Do you have any right, as a father, to know how your own daughter survived being imprisoned? I went to jail, that's on me, but what did my mom do wrong? She only lied to you because she loved you. It was her biggest mistake to love you." Pausing, she continued, "Now that you've got what you wanted, she didn't succeed in jumping off the building, but she's as good as dead, just like a corpse. Are you satisfied? Rest assured, I'll bring her back to China, and you won't see us again."

"Your woman drove my mom to her death, and I've taken that into account. As for you, if you dare conceive, I dare kill. You'll only have one ruthless daughter in your life. I die, you're extinct." With that, she turned and walked away.

Monuo stood there, watching her, his lips trembling. He hadn't expected his own daughter to push him to this extent. She was even more ruthless than he had imagined.

Monzhanyan left the hospital after arranging for her mom to be transferred, her eyes becoming colder as she watched the people coming and going at the airport.

Next, she found a rental house, called Li Hu to arrange a match time, and got a job fixing cars. The pay wasn't great, but it was something. Every week, she would visit the hospital.

In the bustling streets of City A, tall buildings rose on both sides. Today, she was wearing a white shirt with light green jeans and dark sneakers. Her hair had grown longer, falling over her ears, partially covering the scar at the corner of her eye. Her delicate face was fully exposed, with elegant features that were stunning to behold. She resembled her mom a lot, but her eyes inherited her father's cold and deep gaze. Although her eyes were clear, they gave off an eerie feeling that made people afraid. Despite wearing the most ordinary clothes, her aura was extraordinary, exuding mystery and coldness, making it hard for people to approach. With an ambiguous face and a touch of heroism between her eyebrows, she looked completely androgynous. Even though she was just a man, if he didn't like her, he could say so. She would never lower herself to cling to someone. Her love was not so cheap, and she was not so humble. With clenched fists, her knuckles turned white, and her bones seemed to be on the verge of cracking. But how could she have imagined that this man would be so ruthless and use his influence to send her to prison himself? She hated him! And she hated herself even more! This time, she would never love again. She would make him taste the bitterness of life and death himself.

Lu Chenxi, you're a real piece of work, you know? Even if you never gave a damn about me, never felt a thing for me, you had no right to toss me into the trash like that. What were you up to while I was rotting away in that hellhole? You're willing to be so heartless to me for that chick? If it had been me with busted legs instead of her, how would you have treated her? I can't help but chuckle. Lu Chenxi, you probably couldn't bring yourself to do it! You can forgive anyone and their mom, but when it comes to me, you've got a mean streak. You'd rather see me hurt than let her get a scratch. What am I to you? Just because I love you, does that mean you can stomp all over my heart?

Spent five years living in the slammer, I've stomped all over what's right and wrong. What's good? What's bad? All I cared about was surviving. Over there, it's every man for himself. It's survival of the fittest. Without strength, waiting for your fate is worse than death. Love? What's that even mean? I couldn't care less.

And Li Ningfei, ain't you all goo-goo eyes over him? Ain't you been dying to tie the knot with him? I smirk. As long as I'm in the picture, you two ain't gonna have it easy. You owe me big time, and I'm gonna make you pay up, bit by bit!

Bought myself a hat at some flea market joint, hopped in a cab, and made my way to Emperor Tian Hotel. Stepped out, wind blowing through my hair, feeling ice cold inside. Five years gone by, Lu Chenxi, you already forgotten 'bout me? Just 'cause you said so, I spent five years in hell, feeling like an eternity. 'Cause of you, my mom went from being alive to just vegging out in bed. How you plan to square that away? There's no warmth in my eyes, just ice cold determination. Pulled my hat down, lips curling into a cold, sneering smile that'd freeze you to the bone.

Headed into the hotel lobby, all swanky and posh. Took the elevator up, face staying frosty, eyes locked straight ahead. Got to the 52nd floor, doors opened up, and I strolled into the party scene. Folks mingling, glasses clinking. Spotted him across the room. Still decked out in his usual white threads, but today he was in a slick white tux, looking even smoother than before. Face all chiseled, with a sophisticated grin that said, "I got this." Five years, Lu Chenxi, five years! Did you ever think I'd claw my way outta that cesspool, step by step? Took a sip, and the taste of the booze hit different now. Held the highball glass in my right hand, smirk on my lips. Can't wait for our little reunion!

Turned on my heel and bounced outta there.

In the hotel's dressing room, a chick was chillin' in a wheelchair, grinning like a Cheshire cat. Today, she was rockin' a pink dress, her curly locks flowin' down past her waist, with dimples poppin' on her left cheek.

"Sis, you lookin' fly as hell today! When Chenzi sees you lookin' this fine, he's gonna be shook!" Li Ningzhen said, hand resting on the arm of the wheelchair, a big grin plastered on her face. She turned to her homie, Yue Jie, who seemed kinda spaced out. "Yue, ain't that right?"

Yue Jie, lookin' kinda plain next to these two, finally snapped back to reality after a hot minute and was like, "Yeah, for sure!" Putting on a fake smile.

"Aight, aight, you're the sweetest. Now, y'all go outside and greet the guests. I got this covered in here." Li Ningfei said with a smile, her face practically radiating happiness.

"But... sis..." Li Ningzhen looked a bit worried, about to say somethin', but Li Ningfei cut her off, "I know you're worried about me, but don't sweat it, Ningzhen. I got this. Hurry up and go outside. Plenty to do out there, right?"

Li Ningzhen shot her sister a quick glance, then another at Yue Jie, then just nodded and bounced outta the room.

Li Ningfei stared at her reflection in the mirror, finally crackin' a smile of pure bliss. She'd been waitin' for this moment, waitin' for over a decade. No one knew what she'd sacrificed to finally get Chenxi to accept her. Jumpin' off that third-floor balcony, breakin' both her legs, then pinning the blame on that chick. Finally breakin' up Chenxi and that chick. Lookin' down at her numb legs, she didn't give a damn. Her pops had hooked her up with the best docs money could buy. She knew she'd walk again. And that chick? A cold sneer twisted her lips. She'd rot in jail for the rest of her sorry life. A chick in a joint full of dudes? She'd be lucky to survive. Made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside just thinkin' about it. Served her right for tryna steal her man.

"Got somethin' to laugh about?" A voice as cold as ice slid into the room, sendin' shivers down her spine.

"Who's there? Who are you?" Li Ningfei paled, tryin' to keep her cool but panickin', eyes dartin' around lookin' for whoever was talkin'.

Footsteps approached slow and steady, and Meng Zhan popped outta the shadows, takin' off his hat, smirkin' like a Cheshire cat. "Already forgotten about me, huh? Li Ningfei!" He shot her a glance, and she couldn't help but shrink back, feelin' a chill creep up from the floor. She wanted to scream for help, but all she could do was stare wide-eyed, mouth dry as a bone. "Been thinkin' about you every single day these past five years! What about you, Ningfei? Looks like you've been doin' alright for yourself these five years, huh?"

His voice was soft as a whisper, but it felt like thunder in her head, shatterin' whatever fragile calm she had left. She swallowed hard, tryin' to stammer out somethin', anything. "Y-you... you... you ain't dead?"

"Four years ago, I got my ass beat, ribs broken, thirty-four fractures all over my body. I was damn near dead. If your dad hadn't sent me to the hospital for emergency treatment, you wouldn't be seein' me here today." His voice was calm, like he was talkin' 'bout the weather. There was no warmth in his eyes. "Your dad thought tossin' me back in prison would finish me off for good, huh? Tossin' a chick back into a joint full of dudes, that's one hell of a game!"

Li Ningfei trembled, her face as white as a sheet of paper, hand grippin' the arms of the wheelchair so tight her knuckles turned white. Her eyes were cold as ice, her short hair makin' her features look even sharper.

He kept goin', like he didn't have a care in the world. "With no chicks around, you know how those dudes blow off steam, right?" Watchin' her face twist in fear, he couldn't help but wanna laugh. Li Ningfei, you thought you were hot stuff 'cause of daddy's power, huh? Turns out even you get scared sometimes. Back then, she never dared to cross him, all 'cause of Lu Chenxi. But now, lookin' back, it was pretty damn ironic. This chick wanted her dead and buried, but he let her off easy at every turn. Let her carve her own path, like a dumbass. He sneered at her, "In a place like that, a chick's either gotta play nice or get beat to a pulp. So, should I drag you in there and let you see what that's like? Make you feel all the pain you dumped on me?" His words cut like a knife, and he kicked the wheelchair straight in the gut, a fierce glint flashin' in his eyes.

"It wasn't me! You... get away from me! It wasn't me...!" The wheelchair crumpled under his kick, and Li Ningfei tumbled outta there, crashin' to the floor. She tried to back away, her face twisted in fear, mutterin', "Stay away, stay away! If you lay a finger on me, Chenxi won't let you off easy. He loves me, and if he finds out you hurt me, he'll kill you."
