“What is this?”
Raven guided her to sit on the bed. He squatted down on his knees and looked up at her. “Lift your leg,” he instructed and tapped her leg.
Siren looked at him, hesitated for a moment, then lifted her leg and placed it on his thigh. Raven caught her ankle in his left hand. They locked eyes, neither of them blinking. Raven glided his rough fingers along her smooth leg.
Siren shivered at his touch and tried to pull her leg back, but Raven held on tightly, refusing to let go. His fingers traveled across her knee and moved forward to her thigh.
Siren's breath became ragged, and her mind turned hazy.
“Relax, darling” Raven whispered.
He grabbed the right side of her inner thigh, letting it rest there for a moment to allow her to get used to his touch and the warmth of his palm. Siren looked into his green eyes, trying to steady her breathing. Once he was sure she had calmed down, he took the chain from the box and clasped it around her thigh.
Siren looked at the unusual ornament. She took her leg from Raven's leg and stood up from the bed. The chains shimmered with every movement, creating an effect that resembled threads elegantly draping over one another. The intricate arrangement added a touch of opulence and allure, enhancing the overall elegance of her evening gown.
“A thighlet. Do you like it?” Raven asked, watching her as she continued to examine the ornament with curiosity.
“It’s odd, but good,” Siren replied.
Noticing his black shirt, she asked, “Aren’t you going to wear a suit today?”
“Why?” he asked, raising his eyebrows curiously.
“I have a gift for you too,” Siren said, moving to the lamp table. She retrieved a small velvet box and handed it to him.
Raven opened the box and looked at the silvery wolf suit lapel. The corner of his mouth curved a little. He handed the box back to her and went inside the closet. A few seconds later, he emerged draping his coat over his shirt. Standing before her, he gestured toward the suit lapel.
Siren understood and took the lapel from the box. She pinned it on his suit collar and asked, “Do you like it?”
“What do you think?” he asked, looking at her.
“Wear it even if you don't like it,” she said, narrowing her eyes at him before turning to enter her closet to put on her heels.
Raven watched her retreating back and then sat on the edge of the bed, waiting for her. Once Siren finished getting ready, she walked out and approached him. Raven stood up and asked, “Ready?”
Siren nodded, and they went down the stairs arm in arm.
The hall fell silent as the couple descended the stairs. Men were astonished by Siren's beauty, while some women burned with jealousy at not having the chance to stand beside the man the world envied.
The crowd began to applaud, welcoming the couple. Alex was the first to push through everyone and hug his daughter. Though they had only been apart for five hours, it felt like ages to him.
Siren returned the hug and patted his back. Ruth, Sam, and others congratulated them and continued to enjoy the party. Seeing his mother, Aiden ran towards her and held her pinky. “Mama, you are beautiful!,” he said sweetly, smiling up at her.
Siren smiled back, patted his head, and held his hand in hers. Raven looked at them both, then picked up Aiden in his arms and wrapped an arm around his wife's waist. He looked at Siren with all seriousness and said, “Let's go and meet my guests.”
Siren understood his unspoken words and nodded silently. She was aware that the people she was about to meet were not ordinary. They held significant positions in the underground of Raven’s territory, and included members from various gangs who presented themselves to the world as reputable business magnates.
Raven led his son and wife over to a group of people who were chatting and having drinks. As they noticed Raven’s approach, the conversation ceased, and all eyes turned in his direction. Raven smirked and introduced Siren, “This is my wife, Siren Grey.”
The group chuckled and greeted Siren in response. They were taken aback by the news that the leader of the Vipers was getting married. The people gathered here were the small gangs which fall under Viper’s territory and generally stayed out of each other's business, especially Raven's.
They were fully aware of the power the young man wielded in the underground. By introducing this woman with his last name, he was clearly warning them not to mess with his wife.
“Harold from Talons, Edwin from Scarlet, Cecil from Cobras, Walter from Fangs, and lastly, the current head of Shadows, Albert Wester,” Raven introduced the group to Siren.
“My pleasure to meet you all,” Siren greeted them, her electric blue eyes meeting each member’s intimidating gaze without hesitation, matching their intensity.
“As expected of the great Hunter’s choice,” they thought inwardly.
Cecil, a woman in her mid-fifties, looked Siren up and down. She had taken over the Cobras after her husband's death. Following his demise, many rival gangs attempted to seize control of the Cobras. However, having already navigated the treacherous path of the underground world, Cecil refused to give up the power. She successfully ascended the ranks, gaining the Elders' approval to become the head of the Cobras.
She had been in power for the past three years. Maintaining her position amidst the power struggles was not easy, which is why she had been trying to pair her daughter with Raven, who stood as an unshakable presence at the top of the pyramid.
Now that Cecil had lost a potential alliance, she was displeased. She snorted and said, “One needs qualifications to stand beside him. There are a lot of wolves in the forest baring their teeth at you. Just a small warning, don’t get scared later,” she advised, sounding like a concerned elder.
The people around her remained silent, knowing that her words held truth. Marrying Raven meant Siren must be prepared to face any challenges, even if it meant jumping into hell with him.
Siren looked at the woman and smiled, “No worries, Cecil. I’m good at breaking teeth”
She turned to look at Raven, who looked at her with amusement. Ignoring him, she asked Aiden, “Wanna go to Alex?” Aiden nodded obediently, already sensing the thoughts of these cunning old folks. What was his father thinking, introducing his mother to these hungry wolves? He wanted his mother away from all these people.
Raven put Aiden down, and Aiden once again tightly grasped his mother's finger.
“Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen,” Siren said, leading Aiden away.
Before she could turn to leave, Raven caught her wrist, pulled her close, and pressed his lips to her forehead. Siren closed her eyes, feeling the heat of his lips.
“Stay obedient,” he said as he released her wrist.
The people around them stared at him in shock, while Hardin, who was watching the scene from a distance, choked on his wine seeing the usually serious and grumpy friend of his being mushy and affectionate with his new wife.
Siren glared at him, “I am not a child,” she retorted and turned to leave with Aiden. Her cheeks grew warm each time she was near Raven. He is evoking emotions she wasn't familiar with.
Once she was out of sight, the smile on Raven’s lips disappeared. He narrowed his eyes at Cecil and said, “Speak like that to her again, and you will have no tongue to spout nonsense.”
Chills ran down Cecil’s spine, and she averted her eyes cowardly, knowing he wasn't joking. She struggled to accept that this man was beyond her control.
“I just gave her some friendly advice. You don't need to take it so seriously,” Cecil tried to brush off the matter.
“Is that so? Then here's some friendly information for you, forget your East business in my territory,” he stated nonchalantly, sipping the wine he had taken from a waiter.
Cecil bit her lips in anger, but she had no power to go against him. She stomped her feet and stormed out of the place.
