Nothing can ever compare to the day that we had first laid eyes upon one another. How could I forget? That afternoon was quite memorable, splendid if I do say so myself, but rather unexpected.
I met him on a hot day. It was quite humid. How I wished for water to quench my thirst, yet you stood there in layers of beautiful clothing. The fabric was quite lovely, formfitting it was on his petite body. All a pretty white that complimented his skin tone as he was doused in golden jewelry as well. He was nothing but composed and here I was looking like a fool, sweating in nothing but the thinnest fabric from home. He stood with his head held high looking in a direction that was nowhere near me.
There was something inside me that wanted him to look and wanted him to simply stare.
"Ah, Prince Inshu, it's a pleasure to have finally met you." The king was quite welcoming. A friendly fellow and a great ally. I smile and take his hand into mine.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too."
"Say, is your mother here? I haven't seen her in quite some years." He chuckles.
"Ah yes, she should be coming in a few days. Do not fret my king."
"Lovely."
A simple conversation however quite short. It seems I've come at a time when the king was hosting a gathering; a party.
"Well welcome, enjoy your stay, and please join us. The party shall start soon."
Before I could say anything else the king was already onto his next guest. Before I took any steps closer to the palace doors I felt a pair of eyes on me. Looking around it did not take long before making eye contact with a beautiful pair of eyes.
I caught you.
Staring with such curious eyes. A slight expression of embarrassment laced the blonde boy's face. Eyes darting away, beautiful green eyes they were. His steps were small yet quick as he made haste through the palace doors.
Will he look back? Will I see him later? Or even would I get the chance to talk to him?
These things went through my mind and so did other things. I hoped I didn't scare him for I seemed to be too interested and short-sighted in his mind.
But I wasn't. I wasn't at all.
Lovely music there was and such pretty pink and white orchids displayed around the palace. A lively party full of honored guests and debutantes. Everything seemed to glisten and sparkle with admiration and so did everyone else.
Yet, where was he? The one who I have yet to introduce myself to.
"Having fun Prince Inshu?" The King was nothing but kind, however I was growing impatient.
"It's lovely, however, I have yet to speak to the youngest of the bunch... your son of course." I clear my throat before asking.
"Will he be joining us?"
He laughs. I stare confused at the behavior that the king displays. "My son is currently in an engagement, he is a bit busy it's unlikely that you'll see him this evening."
The king must've noticed the look on my face. How my face turned from excitement to nothing. Simply nothing. I was disinterested.
"Listen Prince Inshu, this party is not just any normal gathering but one for engagement; for marriage." My heart sank.
"If you'd like there are quite many people here looking to engage, if you aren't so yourself." He pats me on the back and smiles.
"Ah, that's fine, Your Majesty," I say in a nervous tone.
How saddening for me to think that someone as beautiful as him wouldn't have someone already. Call me selfish but I was slightly jealous. An over exaggeration to say the least. I have yet to talk to the boy nor do I even know the boy. But I can't help to think of what the younger's voice would sound like. I truly wished to meet him, but I guess it will have to wait.
There was truly nothing else to entertain oneself with, other than staring and listening to others gossip and laugh. My eyes however had caught something behind a pillar, far from the lovely dance floor. My curiosity most certainly got the best of me, I could not help but follow the veil of fabric that had presented itself.
Pretty it was a soft sea foam color, sheer as well. The fabric covers one's face quite well enough to not make out the figure underneath.
"Excuse me?"
The figure was startled by my voice almost wanting to seek refuge elsewhere, however, it stayed.
"You must be the youngest prince if I may ask?" I say. I say with confidence because I knew, I recognized the way the fabric hugged his body ever so lovingly. But before I could hear one word; one word from his sweet lips he was dragged away by another gentleman.
All I could hear was:
"Lahn, where have you been?"
His name was Lahn.
"I've been looking for you everywhere! Father is waiting. We must do our announcement now."
The gentleman seemed frustrated yet the prince, Prince Lahn, seemed unmoved; uninterested in the matter. They hurry off one hand in another. Even more of an announcement? I can only guess what the announcement could be after the gentleman called the king's father himself.
An engagement.
And with that, the king stands above all and gathers all the honorable guests to the center. I cannot help but feel a little envious.
"Today is a special day. A special day indeed filled with nothing but romance and purity. I would like to announce something today..." He looks back at the two and carries on his message.
"My youngest son Lahn Leer and Ian Von are engaged."
Are engaged...
I simply just wanted to hear his voice.
Nothing more and nothing less...
"My father is wrong."
A voice had spoken amongst those who were quite cheerful for the youngest engagement.
"I simply will not marry him and you will not make me."
The king looked furious and the crowd was stunned at the young prince's choice of words.
That was the first time I had ever heard his voice.
