- Episode 14: A tough position -
- Ryan Leto -
I felt conflicted, Rei was very clearly in the wrong for stealing from the people here but he was too strong for me. Should I stand up to him anyway, if I lose what would he do? Would he take from me and Elenor as well? No. It wasn't about me and Elenor, these people fought for food they didn't deserve this treatment. "Rei. I don't know you well but taking from someone is never good, return their food."
Rei looked towards me and my eyebrows lowered slightly as a sign of annoyance. "No. If you want me to give them back their food then I'll tell you the same thing I told them. Fight me for it." I went silent for a moment and contemplated my actions but my train of thought returned to the side of the people. "Fine. I'll fight you for it."
Rei kicked open the door in frustration. "Follow me then." His voice was eerily calm for someone who was frustrated, he led me to a clearing just outside the settlement's mountain range. Rei stood a fair distance from me and readied himself for my attack to signal the start of our duel. I summoned a dagger in my hand and launched myself at him as fast as I could. He quickly reacted to my attack and sidestepped before slamming his fist into my face and jumping back to increase the distance again.
He widened his stance and condensed mana into his palms before throwing mana towards me as if it was a ball. Three beams came flying in my direction at insane speeds and I was forced to sacrifice my left leg to the attack after attempting to roll out of the way. My leg was broken and I struggled to stand up without supporting it with mana. I needed to try something new again or this wasn't going to work. I focused more of my mana into condensing so that I could summon yet another dagger in my other hand. I focused on the anger and let it burst out alongside my mana.
It worked this time. I now brandished two blackened daggers in both hands thanks to the increase of mana I got fighting the beast in those bloody sands. Two more beams came crashing down on me and this time I decided to stand my ground. I managed to parry both of the beams and I dashed towards Rei, finally getting in range to strike him. I swung my dagger at him, but i had already lost.
An incredibly condensed mana signature appeared in front of my stomach. The mana burst outwards like a grenade and slammed into my torso, the attack ripped a hole through my clothing and left a massive bruise on my stomach. I coughed up blood and held my stomach in pain. "I give up...'' I submitted to defeat yet again. I thought I had gotten much stronger but I was mistaken, I was still weak.
Rei had already left the clearing and headed back home and I heard footsteps rushing to my aid. "Ryan what happened?!" It was Elenor who had probably heard the explosion and came to find out what had happened. "I'm fine, just a little fight. Nothing big." She healed my wounds again and that hurt me. I was being healed again and again and again ever since I woke up, it was driving me crazy. I needed more strength, I needed more power. The only way to get enough would be to defeat creatures in that blood red sand.
I could feel it from here. Mana signatures that are much more terrifying than Rei's residing in that horrific place. I needed to go there again and if there was any time to go it would be now. "Elenor, you want to support me right? I want to go to that blood sand place again." She was taken back by my work for a second and I could see how conflicted she was to go back, but after a while she nodded. "Fine, if that's what you want."
I got to my feet and steeled myself for another journey, heading in the direction of the mana signatures. The sand began to turn blood red and just like before the mana in the air grew denser. This time i didnt let my guard down, i was ready for anything that it would throw at me. The first being a mix of a swordfish and an angler fish.
It was the first to make a move rushing me and attempting to skewer me on its sword-like nose. I parried that attack with a slight amount of knockback and decided to experiment mid fight again. I wanted a move that could counter those explosives Rei could create with his mana. Something that could replicate an invisible bomb.
I parried yet another blow as I tried to think up ideas for this new spell. Speed. I needed something with a great deal of spread that I could use to outrun the explosion. I slashed at the angler fish with my dagger and managed to cut off its nose. The creature resorted to lunging at me with its mouth full of sharp teeth and I attempted to dodge using something new. I forced mana out of my body and formed a silluhouette of myself with it, this proved difficult to do and I had to sidestep last second before I was caught by the sea creature.
I attempted it again, forming the mana successfully this time. I then formed a chain of mana towards the silhouette and latched onto it and without a second thought, I 'pulled' myself towards the silhouette. The spell worked and I found myself in the silhouette’s position almost instantly, I slashed at the back of the unaware sea creature and took it down before falling to the floor. The spell had taken a lot out of me but It had worked.
I had achieved teleportation.
