- Episode 15: Is this enough? -
- Ryan Leto -
I stood up and let Elenor check me for wounds. The creature was not on the weird claw or Rei's level but I had progressed and that was enough. "So are you going to tell me why you're trying so hard to get stronger? Or will you continue to leave me in the dark Ryan." I turned to face her. "Right... my bad." I explained the situation to her, from the people of the settlement banging on Rei's door to the fight I had with him. "So your getting stronger to beat him?"
What did i want? Did i want to beat Rei? I didn't feel like that was the case. Was I more frustrated about my own weakness? Or was i simply finding excuses to fight. I didn't know, it was weird to me how well I held my daggers in my hand. It was weird that I didn't find the blood of these creatures gruesome. What kind of life did i live before this?
My train of thought was cut off by Elenor. "Well, I'm not sure what you want but if you're gonna fight him again you should rest, let's leave this place for now if you're done training." I checked up on my mana reserves. "Yeah I'm almost empty and it's almost night time now. We should go soon." I looked up into the distortions. "Your getting better at telling what time it is." I started walking in the direction of the settlement, leaving the blood sands behind. "Well yeah after a few days it isn't that hard."
We found a spot to take a rest just outside the mountain range that nested the settlement. i set up a small fire again but Elenor used her mana to keep it lit just in case i ran out. We ate the meat from the creature i killed and after almost throwing it up multiple times, I was ready to go to sleep. Elenor wasn't, however. "Ryan, do you think the people of this place will ever be free?" I didn't know what she had meant by that, as someone who didn't have much memory it was hard to form a response. "I'm not sure if I'm even from here. but there's a chance for everything right... Nothing is impossible. That's how I like to imagine things."
She seemed content with my answer as she fell asleep shortly after it, but I stayed up. I wasn't able to shake the feeling of being watched by someone or something and it made me uneasy. I tried sensing mana around me but my senses were dull from being at such a low amount. Maybe I was just seeing things. I finally went to sleep.
- Elenor Althea: Early morning -
I opened my eyes and got up slowly, stretching my limbs out and brushing off the sand that had collected on my clothing. Ryan was also up but it looked like he had been up all night, there were massive bags under his eyes and he was yawning a lot. "Did you not sleep?" His reaction was slow and he only now started stretching. "Nah i couldnt. i felt like we were being watched." A bit of worry started to plague my mind. "Huh? even now?" Ryan shook his head and I immediately calmed down. "Oh ok, but you still could have woken me up you idiot."
He ignored me, adding to my frustration, and bent down to brush sand off his legs. "Lets go to the blood sands again. I need to do some early morning training." I would have argued with him if I didn't know how stubborn he was, so we both ended up travelling to the blood sand. On the way there i sent my mana into him and concentrated it on his brain, "Why are you using magic?" I started using my support magic before replying. "Im supplying your pea sized brain with some energy." He gave me a blank look before swerving his head and pushing me away from him.
One of the weird claws sprouted from the ground where I had been standing and attempted to attack Ryan, he parried the blow easily and I got ready to perform my barrier spell if he needed it. I felt weird, I felt like I should have been doing more than this. Ryan dashed forward with two of his daggers in hand he parried blow after blow and this time he had the advantage over the claw when it came to number of attacks. He was able to give it multiple scratches before backing off.
The claw's scratches began to heal from the attacks it had taken. The claw was able to recover completely within seconds, this was why rei had blasted it to pieces. If that's how much firepower that was needed to take it down then. Could Ryan win this? I began to think about the explosive magic i had used before but shook the thought from my head as i watched Ryan jump back into the battle welding on one dagger this time, he slid under a few attacks and summoned his other dagger to deal with another before trying to cut the claw from its routes, he almost got to it but the claw parried his blow last second.
Ryan however did not let that discourage him. He just switched his tactics, dodging the claws attack by sidestepping then slamming his blade into the creature to pin it to the ground. It worked at first but before Ryan could cut it the claw recovered and went on the offensive again. I knew full well that he would not be able to freely use his teleportation on an opponent like this due to its healing capabilities, that would be too dangerous.
My mind yet again wondered back to the technique that i learned before. Maybe this was the only way, but my whole mind and body was rejecting the idea of using it. i didn't want to using something so destructive. The image of my parent in my head was forcing me into submission, i gave up on it and began watching again, that was until the claw landed an attack on Ryans side. I realised that i had no choice.
Fuck my parents.
