“You don’t know what happened in class.” Tim looked excited while I only looked lost and confused as I stared at Paige sitting next to her friends. She had yet to smile her usual smile. I was dying to see those teeth and her lips stretch in the most beautiful way lips could ever stretch.
Sighing a dreamy sigh, I turned my attention to Tim, who was still babbling about something. “- and then Bridget stood up for you, and called Dustin a prick. It was so epic!”
“Wait – what? What did Bridget do?” To say that I was confused would be an understatement because I was completely lost here now. Why would Bridget, the girl who doesn’t even like me or know me, stand up for me? And, to Dustin of all people. He’s the dumbest and ickiest person I know of.
Tim gave me an unamused look before he gave me the middle finger. “I knew that would get your attention. Yes, Bridget stood up for you in front of Dustin, who was calling you a dyke which I don’t know why is an insult even.”
Taking a bite from his sandwich, Tim nodded his head at my awestruck expression.
“But, why?” I found myself asking as my eyes turned a little to look at the blonde girl sitting beside my blonde girl. Well, not-my-blonde-girl-at-the-moment but soon-to-be-my-blonde-girl.
“I got no clue. Everyone was looking at her the way you’re looking at her right now.”
“How am I looking at her?” I turned back to Tim, and gave him an unamused look, to which he responded with a laugh. “Like, she’s an idiot.”
“Well, she is. She shouldn’t have done that, now everyone’s going to bully me more.” Tim tilted his head to the side, making his bangs move with his head. “I don’t follow.”
Sighing, I took a spoon of my chicken salad and placed it in my mouth. Damn, eating is hard when you’ve got something covering your face.
“Answer me, bish.”
“Well…” I turned my attention to him before glancing to the blonde girl that stood up for me for some odd reason, “think about it. She stood up for me, which makes her good in the eyes of the stupid people of this school. And that means, they’d bully me more because of it.”
“I will never understand your theories, young one.” Turning back to his sandwich, Tim just gave me a vacant stare. “You can’t because you aren’t smart.”
Dramatically gasping, Tim gave me a flick to the forehead, but luckily it didn’t hurt much. “If you weren’t wearing that hideous thing, I would’ve turned you black and blue.”
“You wouldn’t have, you love me so much.” I made cooing noises which made him glare at me before pouting adorably. This guy has the second cutest pout in the whole world. On number one is Paige with her mega adorable pout. Insert dreamy sigh.
“She’s staring at you.” I was nudged out of my dreamy state, and turned to look where Tim was pointing with his eyes. To say that I was shocked and a little intimidated would be the understatement of the year, well, after the fact that the person looking at me was the one that technically drove me into wearing this paper bag.
I grew more confused than before and when Paige turned her head towards me as well, the confusion meter in my head just blew up. I saw the way Paige’s eyes filled with realization and she turned back to the other blonde girl.
Bridget watched me, and then a smirk slowly stretched across her face, which made me quite uncomfortable as I began to shift in my seat.
Tim, on the other hand, was completely unfazed by the staring Bridget was doing at the moment, as he ate his sandwich while humming some pop song I couldn’t recognize.
Averting my eyes away from Bridget’s stare and smirk, I looked at Tim, who was still busy with humming and eating. “What was that all about?”
Tim shrugged as he glanced at the table where Paige and Bridget sat with their other friend. “I have no idea. She’s weird. Don’t know why Paige hangs around with her.”
“Maybe because their best friends.” I pointed out as I continued to eat my salad as well, imitating Tim’s way of handling the situation. Because, the Lord knows, if I would’ve been handling the situation my way, I would’ve kept overthinking and that would’ve made my brain burst. And, then people would have something more to make fun of me.
‘Here is the place where the girl that peed herself in front of her class, died from her head exploding, since there wasn’t anything there.’ I could just imagine it happening.
“Yeah, well, Paige doesn’t seem pretty happy with her ‘best friend’.” I snapped out of my thoughts to catch what Tim had spoken with air quotes, as my gaze went back to the blonde girl that invade my thoughts every day and every moment.
I had nothing to say to him about that, since he was right. Paige didn’t look happy at all at the moment. But, maybe that was because of me, because I kissed her in the bathroom and because I had bad breath.
Remembering that moment, I cringed. Oh god, I wish it wasn’t because of bad breath. I have been so traumatized that I carry almost four packs of tic tacs in my pockets and bag.
The bell rang, catching both, Tim and I’s attention, and we began to get up from the cafeteria table we were sitting at.
Did I mention the amount of people that were staring and laughing quietly at me, in the cafeteria? No, well, almost the whole cafeteria was doing that same exact thing I just said, with only Paige and Bridget as the exception, oh and also their other friend – Zoe.
“Well, see you later.” I nodded and Tim gave me an adorable smile before he was walking away from me. I watched his back, as he walked out of the cafeteria door, and then there was silence. Externally and internally.
I knew something was wrong going on, and when I turned around, I almost had a mini heart attack. Bridget was standing there with her right hand on her waist and a smirk plastered on her face. I was seriously beginning to hate that smug look on her face, as if she knows me so well. Like hell, she does.
“Hi, Ms. Piss.” Wow, her creativity level must’ve been below average for her to come up with that name, as if it were a username to some old and inappropriate website. “What do you want?”
She smiled, this time, as if she was being kind to me. Hah, she wouldn’t even be kind to me if she was dying of blood loss and the only person that could give her blood was me.
“Nothing. Just wanted to do something.” My eyebrow shot up as Paige and their other friend joined her. The other girl had a disposable cup of soda in her hands, which she passed on to Bridget awkwardly and apologetically, who took it gratefully.
Glancing at Paige, I found her looking at her hands.
Great, was I unappealing to look at now, too? I mean, I know the paper bag is somewhat bland and ugly, but come on.
In a mere second, I was soaking wet and Bridget was laughing with the whole damn cafeteria. What the actual fuck?
“There. Now, things look the same as before.” Did she just empty that cup on my body? Yes, yes, she did. Damn, that cup looked like it didn’t have much in it, and here I am. All soaking wet.
I felt the liquid soaking up the front of my t-shirt and jeans, as it cascaded downwards. Oh, she is a devil! This bitch better consider herself lucky that she’s Paige’s friend and I am a fucking coward, or else I would’ve made sure she never smirked again.
With another smirk passed in my direction, Bridget moved away from me and then turned to leave the cafeteria followed by the other friend. Paige looked hesitant as if she wanted to do something but wasn’t sure if she should.
I waited. Silently, praying inside that she just says something if not does anything, but that never came and I was filled with disappointment as she turned to follow in her friends’ footsteps.
The whole cafeteria’s thundering laughter, now, becoming clear and distinct as the reality came crashing down quite heavily onto my shoulders.
Paige Stone might never talk to me ever again.
