Ella contemplated whether she should relocate the Demon King in his cat form elsewhere, but she couldn't bring herself to do it, especially since she wasn't sure when he would regain his powers.
"I screamed at the top of my lungs, but my family didn't come to check on me. I should go and check on them."
She began searching for her mother downstairs. Usually, her mother would be in the kitchen in the morning preparing breakfast.
"Mom… Mom… Where are you?"
"Is she out buying groceries?" she thought to herself.
Ella nudged the Demon King in cat form off the couch.
Demon King: "Ouch… What happened to you? Do you always go insane in the morning?"
Ella: "Yes. Where are my mom and Dad?"
Demon King: "How could I possibly know?"
Ella dialled her mother's mobile phone.
Ella greeted her mother and asked about their whereabouts.
Her mother responded, "Dear, we had to leave urgently, so we couldn't inform you. Don't worry, Aunt Emily will be there in a minute."
Concern evident in her voice, Ella asked, "Mother, what's happening? Where are you and Dad?"
Her mother sadly replied, "I left a note on the table. Your Grandma is very ill. We had to leave immediately. I am sorry, dear."
Shocked and concerned, Ella asked, "What happened to Grandma? Is she okay? I wanted to see her too. Why didn't you wake me?"
Mom explained, "You know your grandma. She specifically asked us not to tell you anything. Don't worry; she has a fever, but the doctor says she'll recover quickly. You know how resilient she is. We'll take good care of her. We'll keep you updated and return when she's fully recovered."
Ella sadly requested, "Please keep me informed about her condition. I want to know how she's doing."
Mom bid farewell, "Goodbye, dear. Take care."
Ella responded, "Goodbye, Mom!"
CALL ENDED.
Note on the table:
It's a note from mother:
"Honey, I'm sorry, but it was an emergency, so your dad and I left without informing you.
I received a message from your Uncle; your Grandma is sick. I hope you can manage there.
I've prepared your breakfast; you must eat it. We'll be back in a few days.
I've instructed Aunt Emily to take care of you. She'll be staying with you.
Take good care of Milo.
With love, your mother"
In the midst of it all, the Demon King regained his strength and returned to his original form. This time, he swiftly used his powers to clothe himself in attire typical of the demon clan.
After reading her mother's note, Ella began to cry, prompting the Demon King to ask, "Why are you crying? You're not a child anymore."
To which Ella replied, "You're asking me why I'm crying? My grandma is sick; she's eighty. I know she acts strong, but age doesn't lie. We asked her to live with us, but she doesn't want to leave the family house and the place she's spent her entire life. Why is this happening? What did I do wrong? I'm staying here with a cat that can transform into the Demon King at any time..."
Seeing her in tears, the Demon King felt compelled to do something. He gently caressed her head and said, "Everything will be alright."
She thought, "Says the person who is the biggest problem, but it's soothing."
The Demon King then softly added, "And don't you dare call me a cat. I am not just any ordinary cat."
Ella requested the Demon King to turn back into a cat since her aunt was coming to visit.
The Demon King replied, "I can't. My powers are fluctuating."
Ella yelled, "What are you doing? Just revert back into cat form."
Both of them worriedly contemplated their next move. The Demon King suggested that she lie to her aunt, telling her that he is her friend who came to visit her.
Suddenly, there was a knocking noise at her door. Aunt Emily had come to visit Ella. "Are you there, Ella?" she asked.
Ella quickly asked the Demon King, who was wearing strange clothes reminiscent of cosplay, to hide in the closet. "Why are you so tall?" she whispered, pushing him inside before hurriedly opening the door for her aunt.
Aunt Emily noticed the sweat on Ella's forehead and thought she must have been busy with some work. They greeted each other warmly and shared a hug. Despite living close by, they didn't get the chance to meet often.
"Aunt, did you get any news from mother about Grandma?" Ella asked sadly.
Aunt Emily replied, "Yes, I received a call from your mother on my way here. Your Grandma is fine. Do you have any plans for today?"
Ella replied, "No, Aunt, I don't have any plans today."
Aunt Emily suggested, "Should we go out? It might cheer you up."
Ella agreed, saying, "That would be nice."
Aunt Emily then asked, "I thought your mother told me to take care of a cat too. Where is that cat?"
