I wake up to see Hazel asleep on Facetime. I couldn't help but smile when I saw her face. We both must've fallen asleep around the same time because neither of us hung up the call, I don't remember falling asleep.
“Hazel,” I call out to her, softly, “Hazel I have to hang up.”
Her eyes flutter open, and she slowly sits up. She rubs her eyes, groggily. “What?”
“It's morning already, we fell asleep. I have to get ready to help my grandparents, but can we Facetime again tonight?” I ask.
“We did?!” Her cheeks turn bright red, and her eyes widen.
“Embarrassed?” I say, teasingly.
She blushes harder and covers her face. “No, of course not, why would I be?” She says, trying to play a look of innocence.
“I’d say you are but maybe it’s just that my face is hot even early in the morning.” I teased
“You are such a flirt!” Hazel hollered as I saw her pillow crash into her screen. I laughed at her antics before deciding it was time to get up. “I guess I should hang the phone up then if you’re choosing to attack me.” I mused
“No, don’t hang up I was kidding!” she exclaimed “Don’t go yet.”
“In all seriousness, I do need to start my day Hazel, my grandad is taking me out to chop our Christmas tree.” I saw her joking smile turn into a slight frown. “Ok..” she pondered “Can-... Can we call again tonight?”
I paused just as I sat up. “Sure Hazel, now I need to go before my grandma comes up here bombarding me with questions.” Her eyes lit up as if fireworks had gone off in them. Those eyes were certain a sight I wanted to see again. “Bye Hazel.” I smiled at her. “Bye Jason, see you again tonight!” She hung up the phone leaving me to get ready for the day.
I put on some clothes and headed downstairs.
“Jason, you woke up just in time for breakfast.” My grandmother says, piling pancakes onto my plate.
My grandfather pops his head in, “I hope you didn't forget that we’re chopping down a Christmas tree today.”
“How could I? It's a tradition.”
“Good finish eating then meet me out front!”
“You got it!”
My phone dings, I look down to see a text from Hazel, a smile creeping on my face. I’ve never been so entranced by a woman. I find myself getting distracted by thoughts of her all day.
