I woke up to Hazel curled up in my arms, I smiled and kissed her forehead, causing her to stir. She slowly opens her eyes. “Good morning sleepyhead.”
She lets out a big yawn stretching her arms out. “Good morning,” she mumbles. “What time is it?”
“It's already ten o'clock, the snow should've melted by now, we should head back before our families start to worry.”
“I know it's time to face the music…” She sighs as she sits up.
“If you wanna eat breakfast with me and my grandparents I'm sure they wouldn't mind. My grandmother always makes enough food to feed an army, and that way you could not only stall but spend some more time with me.”
“I'd like that.” She smiles.
…
As we pull up to the driveway I spot a woman with long wavy black hair standing in my driveway.
“Who is that? Do you have a sister?” Hazel asks.
“No, I don’t…” I trail off as Hazel turns off the engine and puts the car into park, alerting the woman of our presence. She turns around and only then do I realize that it's my ex, Amanda. “Hold on wait here, let me handle this,” I say, unbuckling my seatbelt and stepping out of the car.
“Handle what?” Hazel tries to ask as I slam the car door shut.
“Jason!” Amanda yells, and before I have the chance to react she runs up and hugs me. “I missed you so much!”
“Amanda-” she cuts me off with a kiss.
My ex was kissing me right in front of Hazel! I push Amanda off. “Amanda what the fuck! We broke up last year. Why are you here?!”
“I know but-”
“No buts were done. We're over. How could you possibly think that there was any chance of reconciliation after you cheated on me with my best friend!”
“I know, it was a mistake. I heard you were back in town and thought that maybe we could talk this out, you blocked me on everything, so I had no choice but to come in person.” She says, taking a step back.
“Don't you think that if I blocked you that means that I don't wanna talk to you anymore!”
“I know but we were together for three years…”
“Listen I don't have time for this, Amanda, go home.” I turn to get back into the car and talk to Hazel but she's gone. Amid the argument, I hadn't noticed her drive off. “Fuck!” I scream. I pushed past Amanda and went into the house.
“Jason, where were you all night? Are you hungry?” My grandmother asked as I walked into the house.
“No not right now, thank you.”
“Jason-” I run up the stairs and lock myself in my bedroom before she can bombard me with more questions.
I call Hazel, and it rings, but ultimately goes to voicemail. “Leave a message after the beep.”
“Hazel I know that must've looked bad, but it's not what it looks like, I promise. Please call me back…” I leave her a voicemail before shooting her a text. I never ended up getting a response to either…
