"A lonely soul stuck in a tower, unable to cope with isolation. How long were you here?", Selene asked as she drove deeper in. Events flash and meld together like a splattered moving painting, nothing is in order, but there is still a path to things. Selene sees a child crying not to be left alone and unable to leave, but the person who keeps her here, their face distorted. She sees Briar try to break through the walls from the inside. She was slashing and drilling for hours, days, weeks, months, years, and years and years to come. However, one day, she just stopped.
She changes, she becomes dull, her senses are in a daze and her mind becomes numb as she inhales something. A cycle begins. She cries, she screams, she starves, she dies, she wakes up. Pain, she screams she cuts, blood flows, she dies, she wakes up. She leaps, she falls, she breaks her neck, she dies, she wakes up. Over and over she spirals and remembers the pain. Selene attempts to go further back before all of this tragedy.
Selene peels back layers like chipped paint, but she stops as she sees something peering underneath. As she inspects something reaches her neck and squeezes. Selene tried to claw the hand away but was unable. The being emerges and she sees he doesn't have a face. The being slithers out of its hiding place and is now face-to-face with Selene. It inspects her and begins to speak, "She's not supposed to remember, turn back before I turn her brain turns to mush". Selene calmed herself as she looked around and eyed the being itself. She nodded and she was let go. She closed her eyes and let her breathing stabilize as she drifted back.
Briair eyes flared open as she quickly stood to only walk a few feet away and vomit. She began to sweat as she frantically asked, "What happened!?". As Briar turned back she saw hand marks on Selens neck.
Selene stood to bring Briar a napkin and ordered for water to be brought, "I'm sorry, I had to release you quickly or you were going to die again".
Briar calmed down as she sat on the floor and looked away, "You...saw that", she said embarrassed.
Selene pitied Briar as she knelt and wiped her mouth, "No one wants to look vulnerable in front of others, Kaela told me that when we first met".
Briar felt cold as she took the napkin from Selene and stood, her smile signaling a thank you. She walked back to the table and pondered what Selene said, but it quickly went to the back of her mind as she focused on what she saw. "In my head, what else did you see".
Selene took out a book from the walls and sat down. She opened to a specific page and tuned it towards Briar. "Have you ever taken anything with this flower mixed, "she said as she pointed at the trumpet-like white flower in the book. Briar looked and nodded. "There is a banned spell in my kingdom that uses the Datura flower. It's used to block out memories and even rewrite and distort the victim's reality. Tell me, has a figure appeared at certain intervals in time trying to make you or stopping you from doing certain things?".
Briar nodded again.
Selene exhaled, "You've been cursed, dear Briar. Whoever did this to you is adamant about making you forget your past, your mind looks to have been melted in some parts and rejoined, it is not pretty in there. But, you seem to have retained some parts of your identity which may be due to your constant resurrection. But the main issue is being addicted to the flower".
Briar gave Selene a look, wondering how she knew.
Selene smiled, "When you were examined, I got the report. Withdrawal symptoms in sporadic moments were written down. White residue in the eyes, irritated nose, and the most obvious is that melted brain of yours. If you were not a Celestial, you would have been completely incapacitated long ago. Now, whether you want to be cured of this curse or not is up to you".
Briar looked determined, yet afraid, "I want to remember everything before the tower. What shall I do?".
Selene sighed, "Im not going to lie, its is far from easy. First, you have to get everything out of your system, second is staying sober for a week which is difficult, lastly is someone going inside your mind again and mending a path for you to start processing what you forgot".
Briar was hesitant, "Are you going to help with the last part?".
Selene gave an awkward smile, "Unfortunately I am unable to. I lack strength in my abilities on the mind, the most I can do is go in and see what is already there. But I know a person who can do it with ease, my older sister, the Crown Princess of the moon kingdom. The problem is, I can not give you any special permission to enter, and I have to tell you I refuse to set foot there now. You would need to get a pass from the neighboring kingdoms or empires to give you a special pass, which we can actually help with". Selene said as she smiled and began the preparations.
Briar looked on as she saw Selene talking to retainers and those in the royal court. It was clear she was respected and held in high regard. She was knowledgeable and tried to find the best mode of action by what she was doing with Briar herself.
As Selene gathered the paperwork, she laid it out and explained it to Briar and even wrote down the steps on what to say and present at the borders. Everything was detailed but easy to follow.
As she was reaching the end, Briar looked on and couldn't help but ask a question, "You are obviously an important asset to this kingdom and you strive to make things better. Why not do the same for your own kingdom?".
Selene was surprised by this question, but gave a sincere smile, "Would you like to know?"
