Bansi Ram, he played flute very well.
He spent much of his time playing flute.
Everyone used to feel the essence of calmness and surprise in the sound of his flute.
But, Bansi was very poor.
Bansi's father, Mahesh Lal, enrolled him in nearby school.
However, majority of time, he was focused on playing flute.
Because of this, he did not pay much attention to studies.
When Bansi's father questioned him, "Why don't you concentrate in studies?"
Bansi replied, "My real art is flute. And I do not need to study in the school for that."
Hearing that, Bansi's father did not ad more words to the conversation and this conversation ended here.
Bansi's father did not want to keep him away from his art. Therefore, he gave his son the flute that he used to play in his own childhood.
Bansi used to play his father's old flute. Seeing his old flute, some of his friends teased him for that.
After hearing his friend's words, he decided that he would buy a brand new flute right away!
Bansi decided that he would buy a flute.
Seeing the new flute, his friends will not tease him.
But Bansi needed money to buy a flute.
Where will he get the money?
To earn money, Bansi starting thinking and to do this, he thought of three plans -
1. Ask father for money. 😐
2. Go to shop, tell him his situation and maybe he will give him flute without charging much or anything.😏
3. Look for work and purchase flute himself. 🤔
These three paths seemed right and possible to Bansi. He believed that using these three plans, he will surely get his flute.
Cash from Dad:
When Bansi decided that all of his plans that he thought were right, he stepped out and started trying them one by one.
The first thing he thought of - was to ask his father for money. Bansi decided to give it a try first.
He decided that he will talk to his father about it as soon as he returns from school tomorrow.
The next day, when Bansi returned from school, he did not waste any time in any other activities before going to home. Neither did he go to play with his friends, nor did he play the flute, as he does every day.
He reached home directly to talk to his father.
Bansi went home to ask for money from his father.
What a perfect timing! Bansi's father just came home! However, his father looked somewhat disappointed.
Bansi asked, "What happened, father?"
The father said, 'Nothing son. You are home?'
Bansi said in response, 'Yes, today I came straight from school. I had to talk to you about something.'
The father sat on the bed near Bansi and said, 'Son, today I don't have extra money. That is why, I might not be able to give you money to buy anything this month.'
Hearing this, Bansi thought that if he still said what he wanted to say, his father would feel sad for not fulfilling his demand.
Thinking this, Bansi said, 'Father, I just came to say that now I will try to come home in time.'
Hearing this, the father was happy and said, 'Son, if you like playing the flute, I will not stop. I just want you to concentrate a little bit in studies too. You don't have to worry about anything else. '
Saying this, his father hugged him.
After this whole thing, Bansi realised that his father wouldn't be able to give him money. That's why he decided that it is now time for him to try his another plan.
The Flute Shop:
When the first plan of Bansi was not successful, he thought that he should think of another way for his success.
Now he decided that this time he will think well about the plan before actually doing anything so that he would not have to face failure again.
Bansi thought throughlty about the consequences and possibilities related to his next plan.
When he was convinced that he will not fail in this plan, he proceeded with it.
To take action on his second plan, Bansi went to a flute shop.
Bansi made a selection of a famous shop. But it was also a crowded one.
When he went there, he saw the busy shopkeeper. Just by looking at him, he realised that the people of that shop are not giving too much of their time or attention to any single person.
Bansi thought, 'The shopkeeper is so busy! Will he even talk to me?'
Bansi kept roaming around for a while. He was trying his best to show the shopkeeper that giving him his time would not be a waste of effort for his business.
But finally, when Bansi felt that doing such act will not help him in any way, hesitant Bansi said to the shopkeeper, 'Sir, do you have a flute?'
The shopkeeper laughed and said, 'Child, this is the flute shop.'
Embarrassed and shocked on his own question, Bansi quickly said, 'Do you have any flute for a low price?'
Hearing this, the shopkeeper became silent for a second. This silence made Bansi even more nervous.
Seeing the child getting scared, the shopkeeper handled the matter quickly and said, 'The price of these flutes is not much, child.'
Bansi said, 'Can I get a flute for ₹10 ($0.13 USD)?'
The shopkeeper looked towards Bansi and smiled and explained to him, 'Child, I have worked very hard to make each of these flutes. And even then, my flute prices are the lowest in the market.'
Saying this, the shopkeeper ended his words but then Bansi had nothing more to say.
After hearing this, Bansi became silent.
He felt ashamed of himself. He understood his need but he did not think that the shopkeeper too worked very hard in making the flute.
The shopkeeper did not ask for anyone's kindness for this hard work. He worked hard to make these flutes and has a reasonable price for it.
After thinking this, how could Bansi add his words any further?
To end that matter, Bansi said to the shopkeeper, 'Got it. Whenever I have to buy my flute, I will come to your shop because I will know that you make the best flute. I will tell my father. Thanks and I will go now.'
After finishing this almost failed plan here, Bansi now decided that he will have to try his third way.
And now he was sure that this method will definitely give him success that he needed!
My Earning:
When Bansi failed in his second plan, seeing this, Bansi convinced himself that his third plan will definitely be proved to be the most accurate one.
As long as he keeps making his decisions while involving others as a base factor, something will go wrong and he would not be able to sketch out such possibilities.
But if he earns the required money himself then the problem will be solved. This will bring him money to buy his flute. Additionally, he will also be able to help his father.
Bansi became very happy seeing no other obstacles in this plan.
Now Bansi started looking for a job for himself. He first thought and realised that saw children working at some places.
He selected the same places where he thought people could hire a child of his age.
First, he went to a shop.
Bansi used to buy goods from this shop. And that is why he knew that the shopkeeper hires children to do the small work.
Bansi went to that shop and he said to the shopkeeper with full confidence, 'Sir, I want a job. Can you hire me?'
Shopkeeper recognised Bansi instantly and was a bit shocked. But when Bansi spoke to him about directly about what he wanted, he thought it would be better to give a direct answer.
The shopkeeper said, 'If you know how to do baisc accounting and reading and writing, then I can give you a job right away.'
Despite being in front of the job, he could not agree to it. Why? Because he neither knew the accounts nor could he read and write like elders do.
He was weak in mathematics and never wanted paid attention to his studies either.
Then he thought, 'I should go to some place where these two things are not needed.'
He was a little disappointed but he did not give up.
After making his decision, Bansi went to a carpenter.
He knew this carpenter well. He was a very nice person.
The carpenter even made wooden bat, wicket, and many toys for Bansi. He used to sell such handmade things to children in his making cost.
Now, he was sure that no mathematics would be needed here.
Bansi said to the carpenter, 'I am looking for work. Do you have a job for me?'
Carpenter said, 'To cut the wood, one must learn and understand the map. Lines have to be drawn accordingly. If you can do this, you can do the job.'
This time also Bansi had to retreat.
Why?
Because Bansi could not understand the maps. And it also requires him to learn the technique and study mathematics.
Even after this, he did not give up. He was still quite sure that he would get a job at one point or the other. He was determined.
Then he decided to go to the farm and work there.
He was sure that he will not need any education or mathematics in it.
The owner of farm knew Bansi because Bansi often used to sit in these fields and play the flute.
Bansi now went to the owner of the farm.
Without wasting another moment, Bansi said, 'I want a job. Can I get some work in this field?'
The owner of the farm recognised him.
Hearing this, farm owner said, 'You will definitely get the work. And there is no need to study here either. I will just tell you the time and date of sowing. You can assist us. We do the farming according to the season, so you have to work accordingly. Write down what I will tell you. These are common things. If you can do this properly then I will be giving you more work.'
Bansi found this work to be absolutely right. But after giving it a little thought, he remembered that farming takes place at dawn or at night. He cannot do it because he goes to school.
And another factor is that he is not completely expert in reading and writing.
Now Bansi was completely disappointed.
He never thought that his plans will fail and become such disappointment in the end!
He now understood that he would not get any job without studying.
When Bansi faced failure in all three plans, he could not think of anything else now.
Bansi thought, 'I only need one job and I can't get that either.'
Completely disappointed, Bansi returned home with sadness in his mind.
Now it seemed that he lost the desire to buy the flute. He felt like it is an impossible task.
He was thinking that if he is facing such a failure for a flute, then there would be no hope for him if he desires for something bigger.
Frustrated and disappointed Bansi came home and sat quietly on the bed.
His father, seeing him disappointed, asked, 'Son, what happened? Why are you sad?'
Bansi did not want to tell anything about it. But after his father's repeated persuasion, Bansi told his father everything that happened during the day.
Hearing this, Bansi's father became sad. He felt that Bansi struggled so much for his small need because he knew that his father did not have the money to get a flute.
But he was also glad that Bansi did not caused problem to anyone or was not selfish in his acts while he was conducting his plans to fulfil his wish.
Bansi did it because he realised his father's condition and did not ask money.
Also, Bansi did not ask the shopkeeper to give the flute out of pity because he realised that the hard work of others should be appreciated.
Additionally, Bansi figured out the most important thing that matters in our life. 'Our future is dependent on education, nothing else.'
Because of this whole race, Bansi understood the need for education and realised its importance.
Bansi's father said, 'Never forget everything that you have learned today. Also, If this time you focused properly on your studies and I saw the progress, then I will definitely buy a new flute for you as the reward of your hard work.'
Bansi was surprised and he asked to his father, 'Will you really get me a new flute? But you have no money?'
Bansi's father smiled and said, 'You have just one month in your exam. And just like how you will work hard day by day for your education, I will also save money for you little by little. And, just like you will get the reward of your hard work, I will also be getting reward for my hard work and I will soon get promotion in my work. With all of this, I will definitely buy a nice flute of your choice and maybe something more too!'
These words were the recipe of delight for Bansi.
With this, he started to pay attention in studies because now he had got a goal to achieve.
Study now seemed to be an important thing that helped him in his skills, so he started studying diligently.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lesson: Bansi learned from this whole thing that education makes things easy for us. And sometimes, even the most common situation ask for studies where least expect it.
That is why: With Study, not only our future becomes brighter, it helps enlighten our present as well.
