In the evening, Ella called her mother to check on grandma, and her mother assured her that her grandma was doing well.
Since Derek, the Demon King, has converted back into a cat.
She introduced him as Milo to her aunt. A few hours later, when her aunt didn't see Derek for hours, she decided to ask Ella about his whereabouts.
"Derek, what's he doing? He should join us; we can hang out together," her aunt said.
To which she replied, "Derek does not like crowded places... we should leave him here with Milo."
When Ella and her aunt went out for some fresh air, Derek was alone at home in cat form. He checked the whole house to find any link between the demon clan and Ella Brown's family.
Since childhood, Ella loved spending time with her aunt. Her aunt would always take her to beautiful places to visit. They would go shopping together and sit in cafes, gossiping about everything and everyone in their lives.
Ella was nostalgic and asked her aunt to go shopping for clothes. Then she remembered that she couldn't let Derek keep wearing that costume from the demon clan, so she decided to buy clothes for him too.
So, with the money she saved from her part-time job, she bought some decent-looking clothes that would look good on him.
Aunt Emily teased Ella all the way for thinking about her boyfriend and buying him stuff, but a call interrupted their conversation. Aunt Emily had urgent business to attend to, so Ella had to go home alone.
When Ella got back home, Derek, the Demon King, was already reverted back to his original form and was waiting for her sulking on the couch.
"I was only gone for three hours; I hope you didn't miss me," she said teasingly.
To which the Demon King replied, "Why would I? I was just trying to learn things from the box."
Ella, confused, asked, "Box?"
The Demon King pointed at the television, which made Ella smile, and she said, "You watched television."
He was pissed off seeing her making fun and continued with his nagging for leaving him alone at the house.
Ella thought to herself, "Why is he acting like a child?"
She then showed him the stuff she brought for him, but the Demon King refused to wear the shirts she bought.
Feeling upset, seeing that the Demon King decided to try them on and said, "Okay, I will try."
Ella happily said, "Try this one first; I think this will look good on you."
He started changing clothes in front of her, to which she exclaimed, "Hey, what are you doing?"
He replied that she had already seen his body, so why be ashamed, which made her even more flustered.
He added, "I'm not removing all my clothes, so chill out, human."
Seeing her red face, he turned around, showing his back to Ella. She unintentionally saw scars on Derek's back.
She started trembling, and her heart ached. She got close to him and touched that scar to see how deep it was.
To which the Demon King turned around and grabbed her hands, asking, "What are you doing?"
Seeing her face full of tears, he tried to calm her down, asking, "What happened? Did I do something?"
She asked, "Does this scar still hurt?" To which he replied, "Scars on men are the rewards of the battlefield; it's a proud thing for men, always reminding them how hard they fought to protect their people."
She asked, "Who would want to hurt a demon? Don't they want to live?"
Ella started to get curious about Derek's life and how and where the demon clan lives but thought intervening in his private life wouldn't be good, as demons and humans are different, and it might not bring any good to know.
At night, Derek decided to sleep on the couch downstairs in the hall, planning to visit Ella if she had any nightmares.
At midnight, as decided, Derek went to Ella's room, sat near her bed, and stared at her face, gently brushing the hair from her face.
He whispered, "You are the first person in a thousand years of my life to cry for me. Do you cry for every man? If so, I would be jealous," before leaving without realizing she was awake and listening.
After hearing the sound of the door closing, she opened her eyes, blushing, and buried her face in the pillow, asking herself, "What was that?"
A few days passed, and there was no sign of anyone coming for Derek, as he had bragged.
Derek, in human form, would often go out to find his men.
One day, Aunt Emily noticed Ella and Derek always bickering with each other and smilingly said, "You two are made for each other," which made both of them blush like tomatoes.
A few hours later, Ella received a call from her best friend, Claire, her childhood friend.
In their conversation:
Claire: Hello. Ella: Why did you call me? Claire: How rude! At least you should reply to my hello first. Ella: Okay, drama queen. Just tell me the reason for your call. Claire: I have a huge heart; I'll forgive you. I bought the latest video games. I'm coming to your house; we can play together. We should enjoy; it's our holiday. Ella: No, I'm busy today. We can play another day. Claire: Why not? I know you're free now. Ella: No, enjoy with your other friends. Don't bother me. (I'll go crazy if you also come here) Claire: I'm in front of your house. You can't chase me out.
The call ended, and Ella, annoyed, said, "Why did you bother calling when you're already here?"
Aunt Emily asked, "So Claire is coming here? Why are you sad?"
To which Ella replied, sounding down, "Yes, she's coming here to play video games with me."
Aunt Emily happily said, "It's been so long since I last saw her. You should be happy then. You three can enjoy your vacation after all."
Ella realized she had forgotten about Derek, and her head started to feel heavy, feeling stressed about how she would manage them.
She worried about what would happen if Claire saw Derek and realized she didn't know him.
Suddenly, Aunt Emily remembered she had some pending work for the company but would be back in a few hours, easing Ella's mind.
As Claire made her way to Ella's house, she walked while reading the contents of the game she had bought and accidentally bumped into a stranger.
"Excuse me," she said apologetically.
The stranger replied in a sweet voice, "No, it's okay."
Claire, astonished by his beauty, thought to herself, "Wow, he's so handsome. I've never seen him before. Is he new here?"
The guy introduced himself as Ethan, explaining that he was new and searching for his lost cat.
Claire, being a fan of handsome boys, was delighted to meet him and offered to help. Ethan showed her a picture of his cat and thanked her, giving her his contact card.
Claire smiled, thinking, "I got his number. By his looks, he should be around our age. Such a handsome guy. I wonder what college he attends.”
