Hair Tie - Short Story

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Jun 09, 2024

Me and a few friends were at the mall doing random things in the store like Micheal. He went up behind some elderly women and grabbed the back of her collar and yanked her back, poor lady. She split everything.

Currently we’re in the parking lot sitting on the hood of the truck. Of course Micheal brought drugs. “You want some?” Micheal stared at me with a mischievous smile. “Nah I’m good.” I got off the hood and got in the truck and turned the radio on. I leaned back in the seat, closing my eyes.

*Ring*

My screen light beamed at me with a text from dad.

DAD: I’m gonna be on a business trip for a week. Call me if you need anything. Love You!!

Me: Ok see you soon. Love You too.

I set the phone down wishing I didn’t respond. I hate his job. He’s always gone with no context at all. It's usually ‘I got to go for a week, month, and year.’ Guess it’s eating out again.

“Guys I’m gonna go.” I jump out of the truck waving bye.

“Aww where are you going?” said Micheal with puppy eyes. “Home, I’m tired.” I rolled my eyes at him. Micheal is what you would call a player he’s been trying to get with me for years. I know better not to though. I remember he dated this one girl in the 9th grade. She was sweet, a little shy, and nerdy but he planned to take her to a dance. He picked her up and he ended up losing gas so he went to a gas station and when she went to the bathroom he got a text message from another girl he was talking to about wanting him to come to her house and do you know what and left. Poor girl was left there. The next day she jumped him. She got expelled and no one's heard from her since.

*Timeskip*

I made it home after a 20 min walk. I layed on my bed for a good minute before I heard a knock on the door. Ugh who could that possibly be probably Janae.

I got up and walked to the door opening it to see of course as I thought Janae and her brother? “Yes?...” I said with a hint of confusion in my voice. My eyebrow lifted. “Do you want to have dinner with me and my family.?!!?” She said with a chipper laugh. I looked at Levi to see nothing. He's so expressionless. I hate that you can’t tell his feelings at all. “Sure. what time?”

*Timeskip*

When I arrived I just stood there looking at the door. Wondering why they would invite me over. Maybe Janae told them about my dad and they feel sorry for me. I don’t need anybody’s pity, that's why I was about to leave when someone opened the door. He had a gray beard that looked neatly groomed. He didn’t have any hair and he would look like Mr.Clean if he didn’t have a beard.

“Can I help you?” I just stared at him. He's really tall, about 6 ft. I awkwardly wobbled. “I was invited by Janae.” He nodded his head and let me in. He’s dry isn’t he. Not a talkative person.

I walked in and Janae rushed to me giving me a big hug. I hugged her back and she smells like honey. I let go of the tight embrace that could’ve popped my head off. “Come dinners already ready.” She said pulling my hand.

I sat at the table and there was all kinds of food sitting on the table from the top to bottom. I have to say my mouth was watering looking at it. Ever since my mother died dad tried cooking but it doesn't taste the same.

“Hi sorry we haven’t introduced ourself we’re Mrs and Mr. Wright.” I looked at them and gave them a smile. “It’s nice to meet the both of you.” I said, shaking both of their hands.

The whole entire time I was eating I kept getting glances from you know who. I think Janae was catching on because she would look at me and then Levi but Levi would then look away when that happened.

Dinner was soon over and I surprisingly bonded with Mrs and Mr. Wright, they were cool. I enjoyed their company.

Right now I was sitting on Janae’s bed watching some horror movie with her. She would occasionally jump and grab on to me. I would laugh and she would too. I would offer to change the movie but she said she was fine.

I saw her fidgeting with her hands and I grabbed them hoping she would stop. But the next thing I know she’s on top of me. Lip to lip. I was shocked not knowing what to do so I just sat there for a little bit knowing I shouldn’t let this go any further so I gently pushed her off.

“Did I do something wrong?” She said as she cocked her head to the side. “Umm I don’t see you like that. I’m sorry.” She just looked at me. I could tell she was about to cry so I hugged her. “I’m so sorry I just thought.” “No, it’s fine I probably led you to think that but I should go. It's supposed to storm soon.” I got up from the bed and left.

I ran home. What is happening? I’m not gonna lie I did feel something but not like that like another feeling of wanting someone.
