“Why don’t you stay over since Sydney’s gonna be here for a while?” I wanted to smash Caleb’s head against the very well-polished kitchen counter of ours, as we stood in the living room.
“Would that be okay?” Paige asked as she subtly glanced in my direction.
Shaking my head frantically, I tried to convey it to Caleb that Paige was definitely not allowed to stay over. But, since my brother is a thick-headed moron who has no respect for his sister, he didn’t get the hint.
Smiling his approval, he gave Paige a pat on the shoulder. “Definitely!”
I slapped my forehead before sighing defeatedly. Well, at least, he didn’t tell me to take care of Paige while he went to do whatever he wanted. I mean, the least I need is for me to keep Paige company when mom isn’t around.
The conversation in Paige’s car shouldn’t have a continuation since it was cringe-worthy already, I didn’t want it to have a second part.
“Jade can keep you company while I go take care of whatever.” Caleb spoke with a grin as he waved his office bag around a little. I slapped myself on the forehead again, hoping to form a bruise just so I can be reminded that I have the world’s most inconsiderate brother.
Paige looked uncomfortable as Caleb gave her another shoulder pat and then went on his merry way to his room.
We stood there for a while – I, with my dripping bag and soaking wet clothes, and her, with her wandering eyes and awkward posture – but then, I clapped my hands loudly for no good reason, and cringed afterwards.
“Okay, let’s go to my room then.”
For a minute, Paige looked like she wanted to protest but then she opted to follow me, as I went towards the stairs to go to my room.
We ascended the stairs silently except for the occasional creeks of the wooden boards of our house. I mean, creeks are always there, even if the wood is new or not.
I sighed once we were up, and then glanced over my shoulder to see that Paige was following me till that point or not. Once, I saw that Paige was definitely following me, I went to my room.
Opening my room door, I threw the bag in the corner which wasn’t occupied the most, before taking off my shoes, which were definitely going to take a while to get back to the way they were before.
“Nice room.” I nodded my head half-heartedly, as I went over to my dresser to get myself some decent clothes. “You like Coldplay too?”
I glanced over my shoulder to look at the goddess that was busy looking around my semi-messy room. Oh, if only she knew how much into Coldplay I really was now.
“Yeah. They’re amazing.” I spoke walking over to her as she stared at the various posters of the band gracing the walls of my room.
Paige nodded glancing over to me before she cleared her throat and went over to sit on my bed. “You should change into something dry.” She pointed out and I just watched her for a while before doing exactly what she had said.
Going back to my dresser, I took out a pair of shorts and a t-shirt before glancing back at the girl that was now lying down on my bed. Note to self: never wash those sheets ever again.
“I’ll be back.” I spoke gripping the clothes close to my chest as I pointed to the bathroom. Getting a nod from Paige, I quickly went inside of the bathroom, closing the door behind me with a mild slam.
This was going to be awkward as hell.

“So, what do you want to do?” The way Paige asked that question made my mind go to places that I knew shouldn’t have gone. This was no time to think dirty.
“Uh – what do you want to do?” Paige glanced at me before she looked at my laptop that was sat on my work desk. Did she want to watch something?
We were sat on the edge of my bed side-by-side. She didn’t look as uncomfortable as I was, because of good reasons. I had the girl that I liked – maybe even loved – in my room, and she wanted to do something with me – not something dirty, sadly.
“Do you want to watch something?” I asked as I got up to get my laptop. Paige’s eyes sparkled as she jumped back into the bed, to be in a lying position. I laughed lightly before going to sit beside her. “What type of movies do you like?” She asked as I placed the laptop on my lap.
“Hm, I watch only the movies that don’t feel too cliché to me.” Paige’s face scrunched up as she looked at me distastefully. “You’re no fun.”
“Well, I’m sorry, I don’t like movies where the man always ends up with the woman.” Rolling my eyes, I typed in my password, not even caring to hide the password from Paige’s eyes since I knew that I could trust her.
“Those are the best movies.” It was my turn to scrunch up my face in distaste, which Paige didn’t like since she pinched my nose. “You just don’t appreciate true romance.” I scoffed at her, which made her glare at me.
“If romance meant buying your girl flowers but not showing her true love, then I don’t understand romance.”
Paige opened her mouth to speak something but quickly closed it and gave me a pout which made my heart swell and then unswell before swelling again. “Okay, quick question.” She leaned back against the head board, while crossing her legs one over the other, “if a girl you really liked loved flowers and corny gestures, would you do them for her?”
I smirked. This was definitely a trick question. “Depends. Do you love flowers and corny gestures?”
In a mere minute, Paige’s face turned a dark red color and she immediately turned her head away from me. I wanted to coo at her adorableness, but refrained from doing so. She needs to cool off.
Smirking with satisfaction, I decided to put on a corny movie for Paige, since she technically told me that she likes cheesy romance movies.
The movie began to play, grabbing Paige’s attention almost immediately. “Really? The breakfast club?” I smirked with a shrug. “This is the only romance movie that I can tolerate.”
She gave me a small smile before turning her full attention to the movie.
My heart beating fast as she scooted a little close to me, to the point where our shoulders were touching. I felt the happiness bubbling up in my stomach as I leaned back against the head board as well.
As the movie played on, I stretched over to my bedside table and switched off the lights in my room. Paige hummed before she spoke, “Thanks.”
I just simply smiled to myself as we both were engulfed in the darkness except for the light the laptop was emitting.
I don’t even know when in the middle of the movie I had found myself wrapping an arm around Paige as she snuggled into my side. It was only when the door to my bedroom burst open when I came to the real world and out of the movie.
“Wow, what was happening in here?” The voice of Paige’s older sister drifted into our ears, and that is when Paige and I jumped away from each other. Her jumping a little away from me, but still staying on the bed – while I, on the other hand, managed to slip off the bed with a small yelp.
The lights to my room turned on and I groaned loudly. “I think I broke my back.”
“Oh please, get your ass up, drama queen.” I groaned again as I heard my older brother’s voice. “Who welcomed the devil into my room?” Getting up from the sprawled position I had fallen in, I glared at Caleb who only gave me a cheeky grin in return.
“Sydney’s here to take her sister home.” I wanted to roll my eyes at him. I already knew that Sydney was home and that Caleb was being selfish and keeping her with him. But, as Paige gave me a glance and a small smile, I felt like the time we got together was really not enough. And we were also on the good part of the movie.
“Uh, can she stay for a little while?” All of the eyes in the room turned to me and I immediately found myself blushing under the attention of everyone there. “For the movie, I mean.”
Caleb smirked at me, and I didn’t even have to look at Sydney’s face to know that she was smirking as well. Paige, on the other hand, was entirely another story as she frowned.
“Just for the movie?” I nodded frantically at Caleb’s question, who nodded himself before grabbing Sydney’s hand and leaving the room. The door closed behind them and I sighed a breath of relief.
“Just for the movie?” I heard Paige ask as I looked at her, still from my position on the floor. “What?”
She sighed, “Did you want me to stay just for the movie or…” The way she trailed off made me confused and I didn’t like being confused when it came to Paige. “Did you want to do something else?” Maybe, she wanted to talk or something. I mean, she could want to talk since we were interrupted when we were in her car.
A frown graced Paige’s beautiful features and I wanted nothing more than to wipe it off. “No. Let’s just get this over with.” Her voice was cold and hard as she turned back to the movie and hit play.
I think, I really made her mad. She didn’t even wait for me to get up from the floor.
Slowly getting off from the floor and getting on the bed, I sighed. “I can tell that you’re upset about something.”
“Good for you.” The soundtrack of the movie felt like it was making it hard for us to communicate as it blared from the laptop’s speakers.
“Come on, what is it? I won’t know if you don’t tell me.” I somewhat whined, as I paused the movie, making Paige throw a glare at me. “You were the one that brought the question up in the first place, and now you’re acting like you don’t know about it at all.”
What quest – oh, oh. That question. “You said you didn’t know.”
She threw me a nasty glare again which made me literally fear for my life, “I said I didn’t know, not that we shouldn’t try to find out!” I was taken aback by her sudden burst of emotions as her glare stayed in place.
There was silence for a moment before I gulped down my fear and told her what I should’ve told her ages ago. “I really, really, like you.” Paige’s eyes softened as she kept her eyes on me, while I blushed a light shade of red. “But, if you don’t want to have a relationship with me, then that’s fine.” Gulping down the distaste of saying those words, I turned my head away from her. I really did want to have a relationship with her, but if she didn’t, then I had to live with it.
More silence, and I tried to think of ways to get out of this situation without crying in front of her. Clearly, she had a hold on my heart and I didn’t want her to know how desperately I wanted to date her.
“I – “
“Paige-y!” I groaned as Sydney flew into the room with a huge grin on her face. “Let’s go! Mom and Dad would have my head on a stick if I don’t get you home now.” I wanted to scream at Sydney and then throw a shoe at Caleb’s face, as he appeared beside Sydney with a smirk that told me that he was definitely thinking about something dirty.
Paige glanced at me before getting up from the bed. My heart ached as she walked out of the room without even looking back at me, or even saying goodbye. Did she really not like me?
“Woah, did something happen between you two?” Sydney asked as she looked at me with a gentle look. I just frowned. “I don’t know.” Because, I really didn’t know.
Did she not feel anything when we kissed? Or was it just something that I imagined, I mean, I have been told that I have a very strong imagination.
“O-kay.” Sydney turned to Caleb, who was frowning at me. “See you later, babe.” Giving him a peck on the cheek, Sydney made her way out of my room as well, leaving me with the company of my brother who was still frowning towards me. “Is – Is everything okay?” I didn’t have an answer for him, and he knew that, so, he just slipped out of my room silently, closing the door behind him. And I found myself alone in my room, missing the warmth of Paige’s body next to mine, while The Breakfast Club was still paused on the laptop screen.
In that moment, I realized something that I had never really thought about before.
Was Paige even gay to begin with?
