[SLIGHT MENTION OF VIOLENCE. TREAD LIGHTLY.]
T R E V O R
I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief when Jesse calmed down, but hearing his gut-wrenching sobs were pure torture. It was ripping my heart to shreds; seeing him in pain. I did not expect that he was holding so much hurt deep inside of him.
Seeing the one you love breaking into pieces was soul-crushing.
The first time I met Jesse, I was ambushed. Something in my gut told me that it could be the Rossi Family, our rival, but since last year, the underground world is getting more chaotic. A new group was targeting the heads of the families, and there's a large possibility that it could be their doing.
These young groups are causing an uprising, imposing their revolutionary ways with their new rules and new ways of doing things. That's just plain dumb. It's the underground world. If people needed saving, they wouldn't have done illegal deeds in the first place.
My team is still doing an investigation to make sure that none of my loved ones would be exposed to danger. We are looking and investigating every angle to make sure that every minute detail gets examined.
After I called Yohan for help and backup, Jesse came in a panic, reprimanding me and calling me stupid. Honestly, it was love at first sight. Something just clicked, and I knew that he is the one. I could see myself teasing him and enjoying all of his sass, spice, and everything nice.
Two weeks later, I decided to investigate him. I used all of my connections and found out that he was a freshman at a prestigious university. Seeing him for a few minutes was enough for me. Jesse was smiling when he was with his friends, but it was not a genuine one. It was forced.
His friends may not have noticed it, but I have two friends who are experts in bottling their emotions. I knew at first glance that something was bothering him.
Two weeks ago, Jesse was getting suspicious. I let him. I was tired of hiding and watching him from afar. Also, Stefan was getting annoying and Devon was getting on my nerves. It did not help that my family was pressuring me to go and confess to Jesse.
Last night, I was passing the time by doing an additional investigation on the groups popping up in the underground when I saw Jesse in tears, disheveled, and in so much distress. My first thought was to get him as far as I can when I saw men patrolling the area.
When I heard Jesse's name, I put two and two together and I had to control myself not to pull somebody and give him the third degree. However, Jesse was more important and I can deal with the small fries later.
I thought I would do a good job of controlling my emotions when it comes to Jesse, especially when I learned about his horrible past and extremely horrid present, but seeing those scars marring his skin... I couldn't imagine the pain and the feeling of being alone, with no one to turn to. Adding fuel to the fire was that his parents did it.
Jesse's scars on his back are slowly fading, but it was still visible. There was one long slash, and Jesse's tear-filled expression contorted with pain flashed in my mind. I had to take a deep breath and keep a calm mind before I lose my mind. Something inside of me was urging me to kill them, but death is such an easy way out.
The Morelli is known for their elaborate and distinctive way of torturing someone. We break them physically, emotionally, and psychologically. No one dares to cross us unless they want to have a taste of our customized hell.
I left Jesse in the bedroom and went to the living room, where Jin and Yohan were waiting. I called them ten minutes ago for a very important discussion. As usual, Yohan was facing his laptop, participating in a black market auction online, while Jin was setting food after plates of food.
"Jin, you really took everything I said into heart," I remarked with a sarcastic tone but Jin innocently smiled.
"I am, Boss. You said I should try cooking, and I think I'm doing a great job." Jin handed me a glass of wine and placed a tall glass of soda for Yohan, and a huge slice of chocolate cake. According to Yohan, sugar keeps him focused, so I have no complaints.
"Yes! Finally, I got it. After months of scouting, I finally got it," Yohan exclaimed in a controlled voice. I informed them beforehand that Jesse was sleeping, so they have to behave.
I sat down on the couch across them and Yohan closed his laptop. "What did you get?"
Yohan's expression lit up. "Boss, you're gonna love this! It's a very rare drug that could add potency to our truth serum. Not only that, if you lie, it will send an electric signal to your brain that will trigger your deep-seated fears, so you have no choice but to tell the truth. This drug is so sick!"
I took a sip of my drink and hummed. "How sure are you that you're not being scammed, Yohan? A drug like that doesn't exist," I deadpanned and Jin nodded.
"I agree, Boss. You shouldn't have wasted that much money," he turned to Yohan and sat beside him. "The boss has already finished the formulation of his truth serum, and it's very effective."
Yohan raised his brow and crossed his arms over his chest. "How sure are you?"
"I volunteered for the trial."
"What?! When was this?" Yohan glanced at me, shocked to the bones.
"Five months ago."
Jin was the quiet type. Not one to talk; so I decided, why not make him even deadlier? When I want to piss off the old coots in the family, I always bring Jin. His unfiltered mouth coupled with his innocence and cluelessness was a good combination.
"So when you said that my new haircut was bad, you really meant it?" Jin nodded and patted Yohan's shoulder in pity. "Boss! How potent is this shit?"
"Just a few hours, six to seven, give and take. It turned out that Jin was naturally unfiltered; that's the reason why he chose to stay quiet. That few hours of being under the influence of the drug were so freeing for him, so I decided to let him be himself." I shrugged and Jin nodded in appreciation.
"By the way, Boss. Our men already caught them, and they were being whiny bitches, so I used Avici. I really don't like the sound of their voices, but I did enjoy hearing them scream in pain," Jin reported with his signature innocent smile while Yohan was getting all grumpy.
"Good job, Jin. Any updates, Yohan?" Yohan nodded and handed me a file.
"Heads up, Boss. You won't like one of the videos. It was so... brutal," Yohan pursed his lips and clenched his fist, while Jin's expression was blank.
I already have an idea of what the contents are. I just need to control myself and let everything go tomorrow. My body is prickling with excitement. Just the fact that I will be able to torture someone was making my hands itch and my blood pumping.
"Boss, can I stab them with the new knife you got me? The one laced with Avici? Also, I heard that the tech division developed a new torture device that conjures a person's worst nightmare through VR. I want to witness them break physically, emotionally, and psychologically," Jin said and fished out his phone. Probably to text his friend in the tech division.
"Sure. After I gave them a piece of my mind. I won't let them off for hurting Jesse. I will make sure that they rot in their hell," I promised in a chilling tone and stared at the folder. Yohan and Jin nodded, seemingly pleased with my decision.
The people who offered Jesse's parents a hand? I had them locked up for five years. It was a light punishment, so they should be thankful. Having wide connections is definitely helpful, and just hearing my name gets everything done. All it takes is a badge from the family, and they all cower in fear.
"Boss, is he alright?" Jin referred to Jesse with a worried expression, and Yohan also looked at me with curiosity.
I heaved a deep sigh and leaned against my seat, then downed the wine in one gulp. "He cried. So hard. They made my baby cry. They made him suffer. I won't let them get away with this. Tell the tech division to ready that specialized whip I had made."
Jin's eyes lit up. "Boss, I saw it last week, and it was so cool. The welts you can get from each flog is crazy painful, and if inject Avici... that would be the best."
My lips tugged for a smirk and nodded in agreement. "Thanks for the input, Jin. By the way, I still haven't forgotten what you did this morning."
Jin gasped and shook his head. "Boss! You clearly said to do everything Jesse says, and I just followed your instructions. I am innocent here," he defended himself while Yohan looks amused.
"What did you do, asshole?" Yohan asked Jin in a playful tone, while Jin grabbed a fried chicken.
"Jesse said that he wants a drug to kill the boss, and I happen to have a friend who has a drug like that."
Yohan snorted and glanced at me shortly before turning to Jin. "So, if I asked you to help me kill the boss, would you agree?" Yohan looked at me with a smirk, but it soon faded when he heard Jin's answer.
"Oh no. I think you're misunderstanding something. I would never do that to him. Everyone beneath the boss is mine to kill if they ever try to betray him. Boss gave me the green light, so if you want to stage a coup, tread lightly. I have eyes and ears everywhere," Jin said casually and took a bite of his food.
Yohan paled and chuckled breathlessly. "Why so serious, man? I wouldn't do that," Yohan assured Jin with a pale face and tapped Jin's arm.
Jin nodded and smiled. "More cake?"
"S-Sure."
Jin Yamamoto is my assassin and executioner and Yohan is my right hand and personal attendant. He and Jin do not actually interact that often since they have different responsibilities but they work closely when it comes to missions. Jin is very loyal to me.
The scars on his body are a testament to the numerous times he sacrificed his life to protect me. Although, I ordered him to stop acting as my shield since someone I know will get furious and I prefer to be on that person's good side.
"Oh yeah. Have you heard from Julian?"
Yohan rolled his eyes and took a huge bite of his cake and swallowed in one go. "I don't understand Julian. Augustus is treating him like trash, but he still chose to be with him. Can't you do something about that, Boss?"
Julian is the personal attendant of my cousin and the boss of one of the branch families, Augustus Riviero. Yohan abhors Augustus, and the bad blood just happened recently. To think that Augustus and Yohan were the best of friends.
"I can, but it's Julian's choice. Augustus is his master, and Julian swore on his life never to leave Augustus. Also, it's none of my business. I don't want to step into a landmine. Augustus is uncontrollable when pushed."
Yohan sighed, very conflicted about the situation. "Julian is free tomorrow. I was supposed to invite him out for lunch, but I will tell him that there will be a change of plans."
"How were you able to get past my grumpy and asshole cousin?" Augustus is very possessive of Julian, even if things are not good between them as of the moment.
Yohan scoffed and smirked. "I told him that if he did not allow Julian to go out with me, Julian will detest him. He immediately agreed."
Jin clucked his tongue and shook his head in disappointment. "Augustus is being immature. What happened was out of his control. If he keeps being a jerk, he will lose Julian," Jin frankly commented and chomped on his fried chicken.
Yohan turned to Jin with a look full of amazement. "I'm starting to like this unfiltered edition of Jin. You wrapped everything nicely."
Jin grinned and blinked. "By the way, you look like a creep with your blue hair. Change it back."
"And you ruined it. Good talk, man," Yohan sighed and touched his blue hair, getting more conscious by the second.
I put the wine glass on the table and got on my feet. "Make sure that everything is prepared tomorrow. Julian will be a good distraction to Jesse while we have some fun. Good job, guys."
Jin and Yohan nodded, while I walked back to our room. I noticed that Jesse stirred in his sleep, so I immediately laid beside him and scooped him in my arms. Jesse whimpered softly and pressed his body closer to mine.
"I'm right here, baby. Sleep tight."
