Whispers Of The Forgotten

CHAPTER 3: THE IMPORTANT LESSON

CHAPTER 3: THE IMPORTANT LESSON

Jun 15, 2024

As James and Ryan stood opposite of Ashes. Ryan decides to make the first move and dashes at him, before James stops him. “Ryan, relax man, we don’t know what he’s capable of yet.”
Ryan: “Okay, but what the hell do we do then?”
James: “Call me crazy, but we let him make the first move.”
Ryan: “Sounds pretty stupid, but if you say so.”

Ashes steadies himself, then suddenly speeds over to James and tries to grab James and toss him in the air, but he barely dodges. Then, as James dodges Ashes by the back of his neck and lunges him through a couple of trees, creating a small fighting area. He then turns to Ryan and kicks him in the stomach, sending him towards Ashes. “Ryan, your turn! Good luck, pal!”

Ryan: “Wait, the fuck? Why’d you kick me?!”
James: “The best way of learning is from first experience. And to top it all off: I’ll be here to deliver commentary.”
Ryan looks frantically back and forth between Ashes and James. “Dude! I don’t even know what I’m able to do yet”
Ashes teleports over to Ryan and uppercuts to his gut, sending him 5 meters into the air. He then speaks up: “Cease… Your whining… Foolish child…”
Ryan gasps for breath after landing back on the ground with a loud thud. He wheezes out:
“ ‘Child’? I’m twenty-four..!”
James grumbles, before speaking up. “Focus Ryan, try to predict according to his body language how he’ll attack!”

Ryan begrudgingly agrees, before getting back on his feet and dusting himself off. He assumes his fighting stance again.
Ryan charges up his Super Speed, his legs tense up as his breathing grows heavier. Ashes notices Ryan’s attempt to charge himself up and teleports over to him, he forms razors-sharp blades made of ash on both his forearms and starts to rapidly slash them at Ryan, but it has no effect, causing him to growl in frustration as he starts to slash quicker and quicker, forming multiple tears and holes in Ryan’s gi.
Ryan on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be affected at all by Ashes’ seemingly useless slashing. While Ashes had been trying to hit his attack on Ryan, he has fully powered himself up. Suddenly, Ryan catches Ashes’ wrist with his left hand as he goes in for another slash at him, his eyes burn a bright green and he grins as Ashes looks to be a bit surprised. Ryan’s hand bursts into a green energy as he punches Ashes in the ribs from a very close distance, sending him rocketing away fifty meters, his body shattering multiple trees. Ryan speaks up, his voice way more serious and with a faint echo as he is fully concentrated. “Incompetent moron.”

James claps his hands from above, he is sitting on the branch of a tree, overlooking the fight. “Nice one, Ryan! Now just keep that up!”

Ryan looks up at where James is sitting on a branch and nods, his eyes are now glowing a bright green instead of the faint, regular white. He looks back at Ashes, who is slowly stumbling back up to his feet, his ribcage is caved in from the punch and starts slowly regenerating as he lets out a low groan. “Damn… It…”

Ryan leans back for a second, before using his speed again to blitz over to Ashes with nearly the speed of light, this time using his left fist to uppercut Ashes and send him hurling around 200 meters up into the air. He warps over to Ashes at the peak of his rise, being positioned just above Ashes and, his hands are interlocked and he imbues them with a green energy, before slamming him into the tree, causing Ashes’ stomach to be impaled by the sharp peak of the tree. Ryan lets himself fall back down and safely lands.
Ashes’ body from the sheer impact slides down from the peak of the tree all the way down to the base, nearly being vertically split in half in the process. He rips his own body free from the tree, growling as he does so. In doing so, he grabs the tree and splits it in half, accidentally severing himself in half too, the two halves fall down onto the ground and his body finds itself automatically and forms back together.
James speaks up, with a somewhat impressed tone while clapping his hands slowly: “Wow, didn’t expect that from YOU, you’re a quick learner.”

Ashes crouches down and groans, spikes of ash start to protrude from his torso and multiple blades appear on his limbs, his body creaking like old wood.
Ryan and James both get disgusted looks on their face, Ryan comments: “Freak.”
James, after Ryan’s comment says: “Ashes kinda reminds me of an alien, it was stuck on a spider though.”

Ashes spreads his arms out with a shriek and two torn, batlike-wings rip out of his back, small ash-particles fall from them. He leaps up and flaps his wings, beginning his flight and flies over to Ryan, grabbing him by the face and dragging him over the dirt, before tossing him into a tree. He then ascends up, but Ryan leaps over to him, grabbing him by the wings, using them to control his flight. “Not going anywhere!!!”
Ashes does a barrel-roll mid-flight in a attempt to get rid of Ryan clinging to his wings, but it doesn’t work. Ryan let’s go of one wing and instead starts to pummel Ashes in the face with his hands. Ryan steers Ashes into the branch James is sitting on, James narrowly dodges, landing on a lower branch. “Are you trying to kill me, or him?!”

Ryan pulls him up so Ashes and him are flying upwards, before tearing off his wings. He uses his legs to push himself off of Ashes, sending him plummeting to the ground.
As Ryan lands back on the ground, his Focus wears out, he blinks rapidly and his eyes go back to the usual glowing white. He looks around in confusion. “Hey, w-what just happened?!”
James gives him an even more confused look, raising a eyebrow. “Huh? The fuck do you mean “What just happened?”? You became serious and started beating Ashes up! It was a hell of a show.”
Ashes stands up, clutching his stomach as black blood leaks out of his mouth, he tries to speak while gurgling on it. “About right… Wait..? You’re… The one… The prophecies speak o-”
James interrupts him: ‘Hey! I can speak for myself, asswipe!”
James hops down from his branch, landing next to Ryan. He slaps him on the back. “Well, just keep going at him, make sure he’s dead, we can’t let this thing hurt anyone else.”
Ashes growls, he starts to walk from left to right. “Let us end this… Vile, disgusting humans…”
Ryan and Ashes assume fighting stances again, James walks over to a tree and leans against it. Ryan looks over at James, almost scared. “Uhh.. What the hell do you think I should do!?”
James groans, before pulling a small book from his pocket, on the front is the word: “LESSONS”, tapping the back of his hand against it: “Oh shit, this thing is empty from here on out. Eh, doesn’t matter, the next lesson is to overwhelm the enemy, BUT don’t worry though, I’ll coach you through it.”
Ryan nods, before looking back at Ashes, who is still staring at him with anger, his damaged from blurry and a wicked, razor sharp grin forms on his face. “Come at me…”

Ryan and Ashes charge at each other, Ryan attempts to shoulder-bash Ashes, but the strike is blocked. They start to rapidly punch and simultaneously block the other’s strikes. The clash is so powerful, it sends out shockwaves, James tries to take the shockwaves head-on from the tree, but he’s flung away with a yelp, along with the tree.
Eventually Ryan manages to overwhelm Ashes, he is able to pin him down and he starts pummeling him until he’s bleeding black liquid everywhere and small craters are appearing on his upper body. Ashes tries to reconstruct himself, but he is rapidly running gout of essence to do so. As Ryan keeps pummeling him like a blood-lusted maniac, shockwaves emerge from the two of them and Ryan’s sheer strength creates a massive crater. After about twenty seconds, Ryan pulls back, panting heavily as he looks down at the mangled Ashes, in shock at what he has done.
Ashes is gurgling on the ground, his face is 80% deformed and he uses the last of essence to repair his vocal cords. He speaks up weakly: “Y-You were the one… The one They carved into the stones… T-The gurgles P-P-Prophesized one…”

Ryan is still staring down at Ashes, too shocked and stumped to respond. James walks back over to the two of them, carrying the whole tree like a baby. “Hope I didn’t miss anything too important- Oh jeez, what did you do to him? What prophecy is he talking about?”
Ashes coughs up some black blood, some of it landing on James and Ryan. “Y-You’re the one who… A-Absorbed gurgles T-The Star…”
Ryan snaps out of his shock at Ashes’ mention of The Star. “The Star? The green one..? What do you know about it?!”

Ashes weakly points into the vague direction of the prophecy’s location. Ryan gets frustrated and spits on
Ashes’ face. Ashes bleeds out, dying after a few seconds. Ryan grabs him by the shoulders and shakes him roughly. “What are you pointing at?! I need more information! Be more clear, man!”
It’s already too late, Ashes’ head tips back, the white glow of his irises dims from the blood loss and he dies, his body fades away into ash particles, the shape of his body disintegrates, he mutters out his last words: “Father… I shall seek you…”
James speaks up, wiping off the black blood off his robes: “Okay, why not head in the direction he pointed, wipe off his blood while you’re at it, it’s disgusting.”
Ryan and nods and quietly follows behind James.
