My eyes opened like plates after hear that last answer, my brain could not keep up with the information, thousands of questions began to explode inside me, but I was unable to utter any sound. The doctor stared at me, expecting me to say or do something, but I was unable to do anything.
I suppose Mr White felt sorry, because he left the room briefly to return with two cups of hot coffee and a few slices of apple pie. Without saying anything, he put everything on the table in front of me, and then stood by the window.
It took a while to get my body to listen, but once my hand answered, I started eating. Once I finished, I gave my coffee a drink. "Are you feeling better?" the doctor asked very cautiously. "Yes, thank you very much for your concern" he nodded at my words and looked out. I took a little more time to sort out my ideas before I opened my mouth again.
"You could tell me about that pendant and its relationship with you and my mother," I said with some fear of being rejected and unable to look away from the sheets that covered me. Not receiving an answer, I looked up to the window, and Mr White looked at me with remarkable concern in his eyes. We stood there, staring at each other, completely silent, waiting to see what would happen.
The doctor was the one who looked away first, fixing it on the coffee cup he had in his hands. He stayed that way for what I consider an eternity, then gave it a long drink, seemed to expect, it to give the courage he lacked. Once he finish the drink, he leave the cup on the edge of the window. After getting comfortable, he looked back at me, scanning me, almost making sure I would be able to bear what he was about to say. I swallowed and showed the most confident face I could at the time. A slight smile appeared on his lips before he began.
"I come from a family, originally from a country far away, known for its great wealth and overflowing heart" his gaze goes from happy to hard as soon as he finish that first sentence. "Anyone would think that everyone appreciated us and thanked us for our kindness, but that was not the case" the anger had grown in his voice little by little, until it exploded with his following words. "In the same city there was a large family, but with many shortcomings, which my family helped with much affection every day. To the degree they were offered a living space. Initially things seemed to come out of a fairy tale, all full of harmony and love, however, little by little, things were changing. It began with the disappearance of some objects, some minor accidents and even the appearance of some dead animals in the rooms." Mr White, paused, gulped and inhaled deeply.
"Some neighbors tried to open my parents' and grandparents' eyes to what was going on, but it was all in vain, they were blinded and refused to see the truth. In this way, everything got worse, to the extent that all the businesses they owned ended up in the hands of others. Worried about what awaited them if things continued this way, they had decided to go to another country where they could start again, to give me a good future." The doctor’s voice came off slightly, causing him to pause to pull himself together.
"Slowly the plans began, the servants were reduced one by one until only my nanny remained, who would accompany us; then the furniture and ornaments scattered throughout the rooms, were replaced by boxes. A week before we left, a meeting was held in which they informed that family that we were leaving, before letting my parents finish talking, they stopped and left without saying a word. A week passed without us knowing anything about them, which worried my mother and grandmother, since they did not know where to take the money, furniture and keys to the apartment they wanted to give them, to stop them from going to trouble" an angry laugh came out of Mr White after saying that.
"The night before our trip, I was unable to sleep due to the excitement I felt about going, so my nana and I were having a little camping trip in a nearby woodland when it all happened. We were hiding, watching a family of raccoons when we noticed strange shadows in the distance approaching the house. Being a little boy of almost 5 years, curiosity made me open my mouth and cry out for the stranger. Thanks to the quick movements of my nanny, my mouth was sealed, and our hiding place remained hidden. Lying on the floor and surrounded by leaves, we both saw how little by little they took my family out of their beds, throwing them on the floor like garbage. The recriminatory screams began, and the faces of my relatives were filled with confusion, they tried to explain themselves, but every time they tried to speak, they were beaten. The minutes passed, and that was repeated several times, until none of my relatives was able to move. Then they started the fire, and slowly each of the shadows moved away, only one standing, seeing my mother’s inert body. I saw her taking my mother’s hair to raise her head to tell her something in a low voice and then spitting at her, before taking the family coat off her neck. The tears gushed from my eyes and the crying was so loud that my nanny was unable to keep it down, so the only person there could hear me briefly, and I saw her, Teresa Sosa. The discovery paralyzed me, at my young age I did not understand why, a family that we help so much, would do that to us. I didn’t understand how the Sosa, your family, had done that to us".
