William
I spent the rest of lunch talking with Alexandra. Once everyone was finished and clearing off their trays, I saw Lily again. I need to talk to her. “Alexandra, I need to go but I’ll see you later?” She smiled, “Yeah.” Alright. Time to clear up this misunderstanding. I made my way to the exit and looked around for Lilian. She's gone… “Looking for me, new kid?” Turning around I saw Lily with her hand on her waist, looking at me as if I was the dumbest person in the world. Right, I just need to clear all of this up, and then she won’t hate me. “I was looking for you.” Her eyebrow rose, questioning me. I went on, “Lily I-”
“What did you just call me?” There was an edge to her voice. Now that I think about it, no one calls her Lily. I felt the sides of my face heat up. “Right, sorry. Lilian, I just wanted to say that...I..um.”
“Out with it.” She was getting visibly irritated.
Not knowing how else to go about things, I blurted out, “I don’t mean you any harm! I’m sorry if I’m intimidating you! I-I’m not going to take your place in the school. I’m nowhere nearly as good as you.” The whole while I had been staring at the floor. Once I finished, I turned my gaze upward and saw Lily- um- Lilian blink in confusion. But then she...smirked? Lilian tilted her head to the side, her smirk growing even larger on her face.
“I mean, it's obvious that I’m better than you, but who in the world said that you intimidate me?” She snorted “Let me guess, it was Alexandra, wasn’t it? Do you think you're capable of intimidating me?” The way she spoke was like smooth velvet as if every word had its particular purpose. I now feel sillier than ever. Why did I even think I intimidated her? Crazy. Lilian had left me speechless once again. I watched as she turned and walked away. As her silhouette faded down the hall, I couldn’t help but wonder if I would ever be able to catch up with her.

That time in the cafeteria as I was walking out, I happened to see that kid sitting with Alexandra. It didn’t surprise me; Alexandra’s an assertive person. It only made sense that she would want to get acquainted with a guy who killed a Level E without any experience. But that’s just the thing: he has no experience and he didn’t kill the Level E. Right now, he’s living a lie and that disgusted me. It’s not like I’ve never lied before, but the fact that someone would tell such a huge lie and get away with it astounded me. Just goes to show that what goes around doesn’t come around.
I figured he had seen me walk out but I ignored it. Actually, I wanted to ignore his entire existence, but of course, he wouldn’t let me do that. When he started to talk to me, his face was so red a passerby might have thought he was confessing to me. What he said did surprise me though. How in the world could he intimidate me?? It's ridiculous. I almost burst out laughing! I tried to maintain a straight face, but a smirk came out. I have to admit that William is sort of funny. I mean, what kind of guy acts like he knows what he’s talking about when he doesn’t know a thing? Oh right, basically all guys. Either way, I had to make a point before I left him and that point was made.
After lunch, I had to go to English class which (painfully enough) I had to share with William. He went and sat at the back of the class with Alexandra following him. It made sense that he would sit there, wanting to get as far away from me I guess. Serves him right. Now and then, I would look back just to trip him up and he would glance away. That only served to entertain me for a short while though.
After school, I usually train for some time then head to my dorm; today was no different. It was pretty late so my roommate was already asleep. I typically stay up studying though. For most people, going to a boarding school is exciting. It's like you have freedom and no guardians there to watch over you besides the teachers. But our school is different. Nightlife is usually associated with adventure and excitement but for us, it has a different meaning. Nighttime is when the other monsters come out. Most of them are nocturnal and can’t be exposed to broad daylight. Other monsters, like the Level E from this morning, don’t care whether it's light or dark out.
During the day, we feel safer because we have some sort of protection. At night, well, let’s just say no one wants to go to sleep without their gun. The monsters are attracted to any kind of activity: bedroom lights, voices, even just breathing will draw them near. Tonight, I was just studying when my blood ran cold. That’s when I heard a scraping sound outside of the window. Immediately I dropped my pencil and turned off the light and dropped to the floor. I did so just in time too, because when I looked up there it was: Level H. Level H doesn’t have good hearing but is superior in scent and eyesight. Reaching under my bed, I pulled out my green protective suit and gun. I was sure it had heard me when I went onto the floor.
I watched as its glassy red eye went across the window searching for something. After a moment, Level H just slid past the window and continued its route. That’s odd, why didn’t it try to come in? It wouldn’t do that unless it was specifically looking for something else. I racked my brain but couldn’t figure it out. What would Level H be looking for? Or who would Level H be looking for? Just then I replayed the events of that morning over in my head. A Level E who was supposedly killed by an amateur, a kid with a gun at his side, a kid without a protective suit. That's- Without further thought, I flew out of the room, not even bothering to close the door behind me.
