Mack's POV
I stared in front of me boredly, watching the teacher explain somthing, but I didn't understand the half of it. I'm glad this is our last class today. My first day at school is about to end soon, I didn't make many lasting memories, but I'm sure a lots of people are already fed up with me. Luckily the guy sitting next to me seems to be fine, he doesn't bother me and he isn't an attention seeker. He treats me like a boy, but that's okay, I didn't come here to get a boyfriend anyways. I don't need horny teenagers looking at me.
"Hey Mack" Peter poked me in the side.
"Huh?" I turned to him confused.
"You're so feminine" He sadid rolling his eyes with a smile.
"Very funny, I might fall in love with you right now" I said sarcastically.
"You don't need to. Anyway, they told me to give it to you" He slid a folded piece of paper in front of me.
"Thanks" I said turning my attantion to the paper.
Sendig a message to the new girl in class? HowT old are we, ten? I unfolded the paper and started to read. Most of my classmates wrote me something. Oh how sweet, of course most of them hate me. What else could I expect? My honesty and my supposed lack of femininity scares many people. I've almost read the half of the messages, when a few lines cought my eye.
I like your honesty, but your wording is a bit too blunt (Maggie)
You're not that bad, maybe we will get along great (Luna)
You're a tough girl. You want to race sometime? (Steve)
Cool hair (John)
I liked your introduction, screw homophobes! (Cara)
Don't worry, not everyone is a bitch or a weirdo, you can talk to me if you want to (Lulu)
If you avoid the crazy trio and the bra commando you'll be fine. Maybe I'll start to lik you xd (Rina)
Maybe the emo girl was right, there are normal people here. I think it won't be as bad as I thought it would be. I really needed a new school, but I want this class to end or I'll fall asleep. My boredome finally ends after ten minutes as the bell rangs. Great, I can go have some fun, Hazel should be here soon.
I packed my things quickly, I wanted to leave, but the unfolding fight stopped me. Maybe I shouldn't care, I just came here, I don't know anyone, but I just can't look away. They were bullying the same girl, she was too scared to do anything. She just silently stood there and let them call her names, she could only protect herself when one of those girls hit her. More and more people were around her and I could see she couldn't keep a pokerface much longer. My God why is she like that? How can se bee this uncapable of standing up for herself? Her trembling, quiet answers and the thing you can barley call selfdefense irritates me. I only noticed now that I had chlenced my fists, the strap of my bag hurts my palm and my fingers turned white. I shold go, Hazel will be pissed if I'm late, but I have a hard time convincing myself to go. I take a few deep breaths and I wave goodbye to the guys before I leave. When I almost reached the front door I could feel someone running next to me, I recognise the black braids, but I don't care, my friend is waiting.
"Hi" I say when I see the colorful girl.
"Kenzieee where were you? I've been waiting for ten minutes" She ran to me.
"There was a fight in the classroom" I aswered
"A fight in your first day? You're still unlucky" She said while dragging me to thhe bus stop.
"It was two, but I was only involved in the first one. Anyway where are we eating today?" I tried to switch the subject.
"Danny's place, his parents are finally working late. Sam will be come too, but I think she'll be late" She says absenty "But don't try to change the subject! Tell me what happened"
It looks like I won't get out of this, this is going to end with a heart to heart and I'm not in the mood for that right now. I sighed and I told her everything starting from my introduction. She laughed at my comebacks, maybe that's the laugh I fell for, the reason we can walk together now, the reason why she can call me something else. After she finished rambling she stopped to adjust her weird gloves, just to put her hands on my shoulder. I only tolerate stupid thing like this from peaple I'm really close to.
"I'm hungry, can we go now? We already missed a bus" I said partially to break the silence partially because I was hungry.
"Okay then we will run!" She grabbed my hand
"How can you run in those?" I asked looking at her platform shoes.
"It's a matter of pratice, I only hurt my ankle one a week now" She smiles and we both stop talking, we don't want to bite our tongue.
We sit down on the bus -we almost missed- panting. I'm sweating like a horse and take my hoodie off, Hazel waves herself with her lacey shirt. After a little rest she at me with responsible eyes, I know our onversation is far from being over.
"So, Kenzie what do you think about girls from the locker room?" She asked
"The mall runaways or the outcasts?" I asked, but I knew the answer.
"Don't pretend you don't know"
"Ugh, emo girl is kinda cool, but her face is emotionless. The helplessness of braids is annoying."
"Look, I think you know why it bothers you so much so why don't you help her?"
"I know what you're getting at, but it won't work. I want normal friends instead of babysitting her. We aren't 13 anymore."
"Age doesn't matter, you know that too. You just don't want to face your past"
"I face it by sitting here with you"
"Right. You accepted that you're a lesbian, but you haven't moved on from the other things yet" She looked at me worried.
"Just stop it for now, don't put our bad mood on that idiot" I tried to end the conversation.
"I don't know what to do with you girl!" She smiled "Can I have one last question?"
"Fine..."
"What's her name?"
"I think her name is Charlotte" We stopped talking after that. But my story with Charlotte have just started.
