His eyes met mine. My eyes met his. Was this the man my father bade me to marry? Escaping, just as I was. Although it was a little strange, it was understandable. I had been forced into a marriage, yet I had never been told if my groom-to-be had chosen to get married. Maybe he was in the same situation as me, who knows?
He looked at me quizzically, but gave a nod of understanding right before he lost his grip on the...bedsheet? Who the heck uses a bedsheet to climb out of a window? But looking at his attire, a whole-ass suit, this man probably doesn't have much experience running away. Lucky me. Oh wait a second, he's falling. Without thinking, I reached out to him, and he held on. Not for long though, because my rope was only anchored for one person. Not two. I can feel it slipping, the knot coming undone. A couple more seconds, and we'll be on the ground. 3....2....and we're falling.
He wraps his arms around me protectively...but that's not helpful. He's a poshie in a suit, what's he gonna protect me from? There's probably plenty he can do like attend balls and do taxes. But this is my space. So I gently-

-push him away.
"Spread your arms out and lay flat, lean towards the trees!"
Gosh, this idiot doesn't even know how to fall properly. Luckily we were only 10ft up so no serious harm was done. To me of course, I can't say much about him. I landed expertly in a soft bushel of trees as if I'd been doing this for years. Which I have been. But I don't think he has, because he flaps like a bird, and lands straight into a particularly soft patch of mud. That suit is never going to be clean again.
"Ow"
"What were you expecting, for it not to hurt? You just fell from 10 ft up."
"But..but you don't seem hurt?"
"Because I know humans can't fly, dummy"
"Hey, I'm not a dummy."
Guess I should help him... Oh but does he really deserve it? Yes he does, who am I kidding?
So I make my way over to him, careful to keep my footsteps quiet although if nobody heard two warm bodies dropping from a window, who's gonna hear us walking? I hold out my hand to him. He doesn't take it. Nope. I am done with this. This is why I didn't want to get married to a noble anyway. Them with all their holier-than-thou philosophy. This is why i wanted to find my own life. Thanks for letting me do that, dad.
"Fine, be like that then. Don't come crying to me when the mud doesn't come out of your suit"
Well, I guess that's the last I'm seeing of him. See you never loser.
