“Apology accepted I guess and thank you? I don’t know this is all so much for me to

handle. Wait a minute! Why did you create a simulation? What was the purpose?”

“Oh that. In my world, we use simulations to ask loads of scientific questions and

study sociological problems. Turns out we can figure out a lot about ourselves through

simulations. Most of these worlds tend to be more exciting than my world. For example, you

guys have way faster warp drive travel. By the way, I am pushing past the deadline for the

server reset so we are going to have to speed this up. Would you like to retain the memory of

the previous simulation or erase it?”

“Keep it – I wish to retain this experience.”

“Okay however if you exhibit signs of distress or issues in the next world I will have

to erase the recollection of this interaction from your mind. Ignorance is bliss as they say

although I suspect that won’t be an issue for you.”

“Sure… but you didn’t answer my question, why did you create this simulation? To

study the sociological implications of a more advanced warp drive?”

“No. We created this simulation to study whether some of you guys would like our

new flavor of chips.”

“...”

“...”

Magnier broke the silence as he burst into a hysterical laugh as he fell over. “Chips?!

All this for chips! Hahahaha!” His seriousness crumbled and the stupidity of the situation

won him over. Another epiphany washed over Magnier: no one, not even the Creator, could

tell him what he found meaningful. It was a journey only he could undertake and figure out

for himself in this small microscopic life of his in this vast universe of simulated reality.

Reality glitched and sputtered and warped and crashed before him. Everything was

becoming pixelated and fuzzy. Furniture around him started teleporting and phasing through

each other all the while Magnier continued his uproarious laughter as he slouched on the

floor.

Life was absurd to its core and Magnier thought to himself: “This is the first time I

laughed this hard!” and the universe as he knew it ended.
