Chapter 15
A day had passed, and now Zavier only had roughly 24 hours to make progress on “fixing” Kaine. Since he had received that message, Kaine had been trailing him even though Zavier hadn’t asked him to. Zavier had gotten permission to have Kaine stay in his home so that he could have more time to work with his patient. Sheila had surprisingly said yes with no additional requirements; she had however leaned in to whisper into his ear right before he left,
“Just don’t blame me if he tries to murder you in your sleep.” She grinned as he quickly made his escape from her office.
Kaine sat outside the Zavier’s closed bathroom door with his face in his hands; He had been acting guilty ever since he found out about that text the night before. He had profusely texted Zavier apologies ever since. Kaine was either sad that he might never see Zavier again, or concerned that Sheila will put him with someone frustrating to deal with. Zavier wasn’t sure which, but he was still pretty sure that Kaine’s actions had been flirty when they were shopping.
Kaine was confused by Sheila’s demand for progress, how are you supposed to know when someone is “fixed”? Kaine frowned, if he simply acts like he’s more passive, can he stay with Zavier? The idea of leaving Zavier was daunting and scary. The man was the only safe space that Kaine had ever experienced, and the idea of him being gone made Kaine want to go on a murder spree.
Even Zavier simply being in the bathroom made Kaine feel lonely, he wanted to hit the door down and sit in there with him. But from what he’d gathered, that was rude. Kaine leaned his head against the door, he heard Zavier washing his hands and Kaine hopped to his feet to wait for him.
When Zavier stepped out, he seemed down, he stepped slowly towards Kaine and once he was close, he leaned forward and rested his forehead on Kaine’s shoulder. Kaine had never seen Zavier act this down, it scared him.
“Kaine… If I never see you again, please take care of yourself, yeah?” Zavier spoke softly and Kaine frowned and shook his head.
“No.” Kaine typed a message to Zavier,
“What do you mean “No.”? If you act worse, I don’t know what Sheila would do to you!” Zavier lifted his head and leaned against the wall by the door. “Hell, I don’t even know what she wants me to “fix”, you don’t have bloodlust or something, you just have assassination skills. I don’t see what the problem is!” A few stray tears rolled down Zavier’s face and Kaine felt stabbing pain in his heart. He slowly leaned forward and wiped the tears away. Zavier froze for a moment before leaning the side of his face into Kaine’s palm.
Kaine’s eyes widened, unsure where to go from here. He’d never felt like this for anyone else, in fact, he’d never felt much of anything for anyone before. For him, an emotionally deprived man, Zavier, with all of his overwhelmingly huge thoughts and feelings felt like an oasis. One that he wouldn’t give up for anything.
"Can I kill her for you?" Kaine typed before suddenly second guessing himself and deleting it. "How can we convince her to let me stay?"
