The Truth About Nora Jones | 1 | -Editing to come-

Chapter 10: The Next Morning

Chapter 10: The Next Morning

Jun 27, 2024

I woke up the next morning, still flustered from yesterday. A thousand thoughts are running through my head.

“Why did he kiss me?” “Does he have feelings for me?”

Probably. He seemed so desperate, but that just could’ve been fake. Everybody knows how to play pretend; some are better than others. No wonder he took my heart so fast. I keep that one stupid smile on my face. He loves me. He truly does. Not like that dumb ex I’ve had. Dylan

Feeling as light as a feather, I grab my phone and compose Avery’s number. She obviously responds.

  • - So, I guess you’ve been calling me because something special happened to you, right? She asks

I squeal, not able to contain my excitement anymore.

  • - Exactly! Hey, you remember that one guy named Jules, right? Well, he kissed me! OOOH! Oh yes, he did, I’m so happy it-

  • - Nora. Chill. Start from the start, as I say. I don’t understand what you’re saying.

I sigh, nodding as I completely know what she means.

  • - Right. So there was this guy named Jules. He kissed me!

  • - Wait, didn’t he have a girlfriend?

  • - Yeah, he did, but it looks like he got forced into a relationship with her, and he seems to genuinely love me. I’m wondering if he’ll be happy when I’ll see him again.

  • - Probably. But be careful with the players, Nora, remember what Dylan did. She reminds me.

- Well, yeah, she does remind me of my ex-boyfriend Dylan, but she looks like my mother when she says that. I’m way too excited to listen to her anyways.

  • - Yeah, yeah, I promise... I say distractly

Avery keeps silent for a second, as I wonder if I said something bad. I’m not in the mood to apologize, I’m in the mood to party!

A few minutes later, we ended the call. As quickly as that, my father opens the door with a charming smile.

  • - So, I see you’ve gotten yourself a boyfriend, huh?

I giggled, flustered that he heard all my excitement on the phone.

  • - I guess. I wonder how he’s going to tell his real girlfriend though...I sigh, rubbing the back of my neck

My father smiles and shrugs, not seeming a tiny bit concerned by the situation.

  • Everything’s going to be fine, I just know it, Nora... he promises me
