Let's suppose for a moment, that you had the esteemed privilege of meeting God. And with his benevolent presence and all-knowing mind he allowed one single question. In which he would of course answer truthfully and honestly.
Being the curious fellow you are, you ponder and ponder until your brain almost chemically explodes. And after much thinking you ask him this:
“If you had to say. What was the biggest mistake in all of creation?”
What do you suppose he would answer? Humans maybe? Lucifer maybe? Or maybe the divine apple? Nae. Nae. NAE!
Here's what I think.
Without a moment’s hesitation he'd glare you straight into your eyes and answer:
“God. Without a doubt… God.”
The Legend goes as such:
There was once an all-powerful, all loving God.
First, he created time, space, beauty, and justice.
Secondly -and with a mere wave of his finger- he created three realms:
1. The Celestial realm.
2. The Spiritual realm.
3. And the Physical realm.
And using different blueprints, he created three races to fill them:
1. In the image of his power, he created the Angels. They were each born with two beautiful and radiant wings, not to mention a halo that only complimented their elegance. They were obedient creatures who only acted when given orders. Nothing seemed to interest them besides serving the all-loving being.
2. In the image of his skill, he created Spirits. The term "beautiful" wouldn’t quite fit them. They were more like, "lovely". Lovely while basking under the warmth of the sun. Lovely while dancing upon the freshly bloomed field of flowers. And even lovely while sharpening their techniques.
3. In the image of himself, he created Humans. They were social creatures who spent most of their time playing amongst one another. They enjoyed bizarre things like playing in mud, dirtying oneself with sports or friendly matches of might. In other words, barbarians. But do not let them fool you. Amongst all the races, they were by far the most dangerous.
After creating the many realms and all their beauty, God made a grand announcement:
“I will grant each race, one wish. But to do so, you must offer something equivalent to that wish. I have used quite a bit of power to create you all from nothing, so I will need a catalyst to grant each wish.”
The Angels didn’t seem to care much. “What more could we possibly want when God has already graced us with the gift of birth” they thought. In a comparable way, the Spirits carried on with their lives, tending to their training. But the humans... they discussed.
“Hey, did you hear that?”
“Yeah, he said he’d grant us a wish.”
“Do you think he meant any wish?”
“Of course he did, he's God!”
"Kyah-kyah. Well then... Shall we?"
If you saw the way their lips curled up to their eyes as they skinned their teeth, you’d question if they were even human.
Wasting no time at all, they offered up the thick layer of skin on their backs, and a few bones to the being. Then on their knees they begged, “Please, God. Won’t you grant us companions who we can love and take care of?”
“Hmm…” God went as he thought. Then, with a voice fit for royalty he said, “I suppose there's nothing wrong with that.”
With a snap of his finger, he took the skin and bones they offered and turned them into animals of all kinds.
The humans jumped for joy as they thanked him and vowed to spread tales of his graciousness to their offspring.
And so, they did.
Humans from all over began creating churches to worship his grace and thus began the practice of prayer. But in a comparable way -a very comparable way- another practice began to spread.
You see, within the Garden of Eden, food is not only plentiful but also unbelievably delicious and nutritious. Truly a utopia. So, you can guess why, the angel, spirits and even God himself grew a cold sweat once humans began slaughtering and feasting upon the animals they wished for.
However, they didn’t stop there. They wore their skin as a substitute for the one they offered. They created sport with the sole purpose of domesticating and hunting these animals. And they even used them as their playthings in other ways.
While the other races couldn’t understand why they did this, they knew it was none of their business. And so, they turned the other way.
But eventually, the animals started to adapt, group, and fight back. In no time at all they crawled and crept their way onto the top of the food chain. And with humans no longer at that top, they started to worry.
“What will become of us?!”
“What will happen to our children?!”
“Will the animals eat us all?!”
And so, in desperation they returned for a second wish.
God raised a brow in confusion as they did.
“I could’ve sworn I said ONE wish!”
“Yes lord, you did. But we beg of you; to please grant us one more!”
“Hmm…” he went as he thought. “Well, I did appreciate those “churches” you all have created. So, I’ll grant you one more.”
“O Lord, we are left in awe at your benevolence. We’ve grown afraid. Afraid that the animals we wished for will prevail over us. Won't you grant us the means to keep them in check?”
“Hmm. I suppose I could. But for such a request, what shall you offer?”
This time, they offered their ability to coexist with one another.
“Alright then.”
With a snap of his finger, he took their ability to coexist and granted them the ability to “mimic” other species.
Of course, with it, language was divided, and conflicts soon broke out. The term “World Peace” became a fairy tale, and the sight of blood soon became as common as dirt.
And it was in such desperate times that some humans fully realized their newfound "gift".
While God had originally intended for humans to mimic other animals, they took it a step further.
In exchange for their most beautiful, divine-like animals, they and the spirits would engage in “bonding”. During that bonding, they would show the humans how they craft, how they fight, how they harvest. How they live their lives. And the humans? They simply watched. Watched as the fools taught them everything they needed to know. They laughed and they laughed some more.
But this wasn't enough. They wanted more.
So, they returned to God for a third wish.
“Oh almighty, all benevolent God. We know we mustn't ask for
more, but please; We wish to see heaven and bond with
the angels!”
This angered God greatly.
“What a preposterous request! Have you gone mad!? Do you really sit there and expect me to grant you a third wish? Such greed is unspeakable! Don’t you realize the more you want, the more you’ll eventually need?! When will it be enough? When will you people be satisfied?!”
The God shunned them for their never-ending greed, but the humans simply bowed their heads. They were confused at God’s inquires. They just couldn’t fathom what had angered him so. Because at the end of the day... they were only made from his image.
And as God bared witness to this, one cold an eerie thought echoed in his mind:
(Humans are terrifying creatures.)
So, he divided them.
He took every plant, fruit, animal, and man withing the Garden of Eden and scattered them among infinite stars.
This time, he vowed to make them right.
"I'm afraid that humans are a problem... so I shall send you two, my most trusted angels to guide them down the right path. Michael and Lucifer.”
“Yes, Sire.”
“As you command, Sire.”
“Ensure such an event NEVER happens again.”
And so, he sent his two most trusted gods, to teach the humans how to live fulfilling, virtues lives.
However, one day... he was betrayed. And he was killed.
Not by the humans he feared, but by the very angel he trusted. The very angel he created.
"I see... So, God was the problem."
And so, he was reincarnated.
