Ryzel is awake, but he kept his eyes closed. His head is throbbing painfully and every move he makes only worsens the pain. Ryzel could only hope that Edward will enter and help Ryzel, but Edward might be resting. It's still two in the morning after all.
Gritting his teeth, Ryzel opened his eyes and tearfully reached for the emergency button on the headboard. Ryzel used his right hand because his left is connected to an IV drip. The only illumination of his huge room is from the lampshade on his bedside.
The balcony was closed but Ryzel can see the beautiful night sky through the glass door. A heart monitor sits on Ryzel's left, an oxygen tank, and a cart filled with Ryzel's medicines. Ryzel doesn't want to disturb Edward but Ryzel badly needs his painkiller.
Ryzel was about to push the button when he decided last minute that he'll bear it. "No. I can do this." It was during these times, when Ryzel feels so alone and in pain, that Ryzel remembers Blue. Ryzel is fully aware that what he did to Blue was a dick move, but Ryzel believes that Blue can survive.
Ryzel inhaled sharply and closed his tear-filled eyes. Before his blurry vision dropped close, Ryzel caught a glimpse of a silhouette. The build was so familiar that Ryzel couldn't help but feel bitter. It was just Ryzel's imagination. No one can enter his room because it is password-protected.
"B-Blue... I wish you're here..." But Ryzel knows that Blue despises him. Ryzel keeps on hurting Blue, and Ryzel will understand if Blue decided to let go of him. "I'm s-sorry..." If only I can see Blue, even if it's just a dream.
Blue covered his mouth and gritted his teeth, his tears falling one by one. Blue has been in Ryzel's room for three hours, watching and guarding Ryzel like a hawk. You're so fucking stubborn, Ryzel. You should've told me. You didn't have to bear this alone.
Five hours earlier,
Blue roughly wiped his tears and was about to reach for his alcohol flask when he saw Edward assisting Ryzel to the car. Unlike Ryzel's vibrant countenance earlier, the Ryzel right now is pale and weak. Blue wrinkled his forehead and his heart began to get restless.
Blue blinked rapidly and shifted uncomfortably in his seat. His guts are telling him that something suspicious is going on, and Blue is going to find out. When Edward and Ryzel's car drove off, Blue turned on his car engine and tailed them.
The car was entering private property and Blue knew that he had to do something about it, but for some reason, before they reach the gate, the car where Ryzel is stopped. Edward got off and stared in Blue's direction. Edward knows that Blue has been tailing them ever since they were at Devon's estate.
Blue swallowed hard when Edward approached Blue's car and gestured Blue to open the window. "You don't have to sneak in. You're free to enter. Ryzel will be resting for the rest of the evening because he's not feeling well. If you want to throw hurtful words at him because you were not satisfied earlier, come back another time. If you promise to behave, I'll let you in. What's your choice, Blue Winters?"
Blue stared at Edward's gray eyes with a clenched jaw, then he nodded. "I'll behave but it doesn't mean that I won't ask. I know that something is wrong."
"Sure. Wait for my signal before you enter the premises. I don't want Ryzel to get stressed even more if he sees you." Edward has no other intention but Ryzel's welfare. Ryzel got hurt from Blue's words earlier but Ryzel is good at bottling his emotions so it didn't show.
Blue had no choice but to agree, even if his whole being is so close to kicking Edward out of existence. Blue is the outsider here; he should be grateful that Edward did not call the police because Blue can be considered as a stalker.
Blue waited at his spot for thirty minutes before a guard told him that it was okay to get in. A house staff welcomed Blue and led Blue upstairs, then straight to Edward's office. Edward was studying Ryzel's CT scans when Blue entered.
"Sit wherever you want; I'll be done in a sec," Edward told Blue so Blue sat on the couch near Edward's desk. It's a simple bachelor office, but Edward's shelves are stuffed with medical books. Blue didn't want to entertain it, but the feeling of dread slowly seeped into Blue's system until Blue felt an acrid taste exploding in his mouth.
To relax his nerves, Blue reached for the bottle of scotch and downed two shots, hoping that it will calm him down. Edward sighed at the new results of Ryzel's scans and turned to Blue with a deep frown.
Edward sat behind his desk and closed his computer. "What do you want to know?"
Blue blinked in confusion. "That easy? You won't lecture me or interrogate me? I was planning on trespassing on your property," Blue admitted because Blue was planning to sneak inside the mansion by force, if necessary.
Edward sighed heavily and massaged his temples. "I know you, Blue. Ryzel is so fond of you."
Blue scoffed in distaste. "You don't have to make up some bullshit, Edward. Ryzel doesn't care about me. He's been so selfish ever since then, but I ignored it because I'm so stupidly in love with him. Now, I'm reaping what I sow."
"You don't really believe that; you're just bitter because he left you without any explanation and it made you feel so worthless. 'What am I to him? Why did he leave and never bothered a short farewell? Do I even matter to him, just a bit?' Weren't those your thoughts?"
Blue's jaw ticked in annoyance because Edward read him like a book. "Shut up. Are you a therapist?"
Edward smiled and nodded. "I am; good guess. I'm also a brain surgeon if you want to know. Anyway, I know that Ryzel's going to be furious at me because of this, but he needs you more than ever, especially now that his brain tumor is spreading like crazy."
Blue froze and creased his forehead, trying to understand what Edward just said. Nervously, he turned to Edward again. "Pardon? Did you say brain tumor?"
Edward must have misspoken. Ryzel is fit as a fiddle. Ryzel is strong and can take down twenty agents in one session. In terms of combative abilities, Ryzel can take on Devon or Trevor.
Edward nodded. "Yes. We had been containing the spread of his tumors through chemotherapy and surgery. As a result, Ryzel's health is compromised. He's getting weaker week after week. There's also the chance of permanent memory loss if we don't successfully treat him. Worst-case scenario, he could d-"
"Don't say it, Edward," Blue ordered in a controlled voice, his limbs shaking in anger and fear. Blue is angry at himself because while he was drowning in alcohol, Ryzel is suffering from a disease. While Blue was cursing Ryzel to death, Ryzel is actually fighting for his life.
Now, Blue is terrified; more terrified than he's ever been. Blue did not wish for this. Even if Blue is mad at Ryzel for leaving, Blue never wanted to see Ryzel in this condition. Blue loves Ryzel after all.
Blue inhaled deeply and wiped his unshed tears. Suddenly, Blue could feel debris crashing against his chest and blocking his airways. It was getting hard to breathe and Blue was so close to hyperventilating.
"There's still hope, Blue. We are so close to purging all of his tumors; we just want Ryzel to be strong. We want Ryzel to keep his will to live. Ryzel is close to giving up, Blue. I am running out of reasons to convince him why he should keep his faith. You are my only hope, Blue. Keep him alive."
"What do I need to do?"
The door opened and it revealed Trevor in a black suit, with Jesse beside him. "Make him fall, Winters. Make him fall for you so hard that he won't ever attempt to take his life again."
