FairyTales for young and old

The Fallen King

The Fallen King

Jul 07, 2024

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Eldoria, there lived a tyrannical ruler named Kendel. He was known throughout the country for his insatiable greed and his relentless pursuit of pleasure. While the people of Eldoria suffered from poverty and hunger, King Kendel squandered the kingdom's fortune on lavish feasts, extravagant parties, and decadent company.

The kingdom's once-prosperous towns and villages lay in ruins, their streets filled with destitute and desperate citizens. But King Kendel remained oblivious to their suffering, consumed by his own selfish desires. He surrounded himself only with the most beautiful and charming people, male or female, believing that their presence would fill the void in his heart.

One day, while King Kendel was walking through the market surrounded by his guard, he met a humble craftsman named Neil. Neil possessed a rare talent for creating works of art and exquisite craftsmanship. His creations, although simple, had a beauty that enchanted all who looked at them.

Intrigued by Neil's obvious indifference towards him, King Kendel became curious. He desired to possess not only Neil's creations but also his heart. The king believed that with Neil by his side, he would finally find the fulfillment he had long sought.

Determined to win Neil's affections, King Kendel set out on a hot pursuit. He showered Neil with lavish gifts, presented him with unimaginable wealth, and hosted extravagant banquets in his honor. But Neil remained unmoved by the king's advances, for he knew the depth of Kendel's cruelty and the suffering he had inflicted on the people. The money that the king gave him, despite his refusals, he distributed to orphanages and the poorest families.

Undeterred by Neil's indifference, King Kendel redoubled his efforts. He invited Neil to his grand palace, hoping that the splendor and opulence would win the artisan's heart. But Neil remained steadfast, immune to the king's seductive charms.

Over time, King Kendel found himself drawn to Neil more than just for his physical beauty, but also for his unwavering integrity and compassion. The more he pursued Neil, the more he discovered the depth of his own desire for true love. In the game of seduction, King Kendel realized that he had broken the only rule he had set for himself: to never fall in love.

But the kingdom of Eldoria was filled with rumors of the king's obsession with Neil. The people, overwhelmed by poverty and hunger, had become agitated and angry. They longed for a leader who would prioritize their well-being over his own selfish desires.

As tension in the kingdom reached a fever pitch, King Kendel was faced with a choice. He could either continue to pursue his own pleasure at the expense of his people, or he could embrace a love that transcended anything he had imagined. And to get there, he only had to do one thing. Gifts and wealth wouldn't help him.

In a moment of clarity, King Kendel renounced his lavish lifestyle and vowed to become a better ruler. He used the wealth of the kingdom to alleviate the suffering of his people, rebuilding towns and villages and providing them with sustenance and hope. His actions spoke louder than any seductive charm he once possessed.

Neil remained cautious. He had witnessed the suffering of the people and knew all too well the extent of the king's past cruelty. He couldn't just forget the pain and hardship that had been inflicted on the kingdom.

He could not, however, deny the true change he had seen in King Kendel's actions. The king's efforts to rebuild the kingdom and alleviate the suffering of the people were very real. Neil saw the sincerity and determination behind the actions of the once evil king.

He recognized the true change in King Kendel's heart. Slowly, Neil's heart softened and he began to see beyond the facade of the once evil king. Kendel continued to visit him and sometimes gave him gifts, but much less sumptuous. Simpler things that Neil actually enjoyed. A simple flower picked on the road conveyed much more than thousands of gold coins.

Despite the growing affection he felt for King Kendel, Neil knew he had to take his time before fully opening his heart. He could not ignore the wounds of the kingdom and the suffering of the people. Neil wanted to ensure that the king's transformation was authentic and lasting.

King Kendel, understanding Neil's need for caution, respected his limits. He continued to show his love and devotion through acts of kindness and compassion, without expecting anything in return. He waited patiently for Neil to feel comfortable enough. And if that never happened, then he would settle for the newfound satisfaction he felt in seeing his kingdom prosper.

As time passed, Neil found that King Kendel's commitment to the kingdom and its people did not waver. The once evil king had truly transformed into a compassionate and selfless ruler. Neil's heart gradually opened, allowing himself to trust the love that had blossomed between them. He approached the sovereign on his own and time took care of the rest.

Thus, the kingdom of Eldoria prospered under their rule. The people lived in peace and prosperity, grateful for the love that had transformed their once tyrannical king.

A few stories that I sometimes enjoy writing. It will therefore not be one, but several short stories.

Remember they are fairy tales, for kids and for dreams. Yes it's short. Yes it's not realistic. That's what a fairy tale is...
