That's when the other two kids noticed Max running up on them and they turned to fight seeing Max was coming to interfere with what was going on. Without hesitation they started swinging on him and the first two punches didn't hit as Max easily was able to predict them and dodge.
However as Max was going to shove one of the boys away from Jacqueline the other one punched him in the face and then the main bully got up and started trying to punch Max as well. Before he knew it Max was the one pinned up against the lockers with three boys trying to beat on him while he was guarding his face from more punches. They mostly punched his arms but they got a few solid hits on his stomach and legs.
It was only when the main bully was about to try and kick Max in the stomach, that Jacqueline had pulled one of the bullies that was keeping Max pinned against the lockers by the hair and tossed him to the ground. This gave Max enough space to move out of the way of the kick causing the boy to kick the locker instead with enough force that it reverberated through his leg up to his knee and caused him pain. The pain was so strong that he backed off holding his leg while making hissing sounds as he sucked air through his teeth.
The third boy that was trying to help keep Max pin to the lockers tried to go in for another punch against Max, but by this time Max was able to dodge and something seemed to click in his head for a second.
He heard a voice of an older man somewhere around his mid-30s by the sound of his voice who spoke with a more Americanized Scottish accent. The voice was devious and gleeful at the sight of violence and it said unimpressed but excited, "Oh.... Is that it? Protecting yourself was not enough. Are you saying all I had to wait for was you protecting someone else......? Good...."
The image of 9 glowing red eyes was the only thing that his mind could process as he heard the voice. That image filled him with fear for a moment, but the adrenaline is running through his system kept him focused on the brawl.
That's when Jacqueline noticed for a brief moment as her and Maxwell locked eyes that his brown eyes temporarily seem to shift to red as he made an expression of anger. She knew that people's eyes can change color sometimes with their mood and that this was a normal human thing, but she didn't know it could change to such a strong color.
The moment that his eyes finished shifting to red and his anger had weld up, he dodged another punch from the third kid and punched him so hard in the face as a counter-attack that the kid immediately fell to the ground with a busted lip and was unconscious. The main bully seeing his friend get knocked out instead of backing off chose to attack more ferociously throwing all caution to the wind.
As the other kid began to swing wildly on him Max almost seem to become much more focused analyzing the fight as it was happening in a way that his brain processed everything so quickly he was able to react as if he was easily predicting this kid's chaotic swings. His brain was able to come up with a way to knock this kid out too, and it's almost like he could picture in his mind what to do and he followed it. Suddenly Max went from having no fighting stance at all not really knowing what he was doing and just trying to defend his friend, to taking up a professional boxer stance for someone trained in Southpaw boxing.
With a quick three jabs to the stomach he was able to stun the main bully. He then immediately follow that up with a strong powerful uppercut to this kid's chin causing the kid to have two teeth get knocked out and sent flying up in the air. That kid ended up falling back onto the floor also unconscious.
At this point Jacqueline was mostly watching what was going on while she held down the third kid so he couldn't interfere, and she noticed the other kids in the hall that had heard the commotion and came over and started recording what was going on. She could hear some of the teachers coming to see what the kids were talking about. She immediately knew that they were all about to be in a lot of trouble. Although her trouble came sooner as the boys she was trying to pin to the ground was able to maneuver out of her hold and push her against the lockers.
Hearing the sound of Jacqueline being pushed against the lockers, Maxwell immediately looked in that direction after knocking out the main bully in the situation. Seeing she was about to be attacked he just rushed forward and tackled the kid. Before letting either of them hit the ground he stabilized his legs and lifted the kid off the ground. He then slammed him onto the floor with a ferocious body slam reminiscent of a WWE wrestler maneuver. It knocked the wind and the fight out of the third boy.
Max was about to follow it up with a punch to the kids face when Jacqueline caught his hand. This seemed to snap him out of whatever was going on and his eyes immediately went back to being brown.
All that they can do was share a look as he realized a teacher was immediately rushing over to separate them. The next few minutes that passed was mostly the teachers getting Max and Jacqueline away from the three boys that were all now laying on the ground with two knocked out and the third one crying in pain.
All three of the bullies were taken to the nurse too get tended to and Max and Jacqueline were taken to the principal's office. Although it was normal for a principal to ask what had happened, the principal never did in this situation simply yelling at both children for what he assumed was them causing a fight and seriously beating up three students.
All of the parents of the children involved were called and when they all arrived all five of the kids were in the principal's office with their parents who were equally as furious for different reasons. Arthur was the final parent to arrive and the second they saw him walk through the door in his police uniform they thought something far worse had actually occurred. Before they quickly came to the conclusion he must be the weird white haired child's father.
The principal was about to say something when Arthur quickly just walked up to his son and asked him looking him in his eyes with a very serious and very frightening stare, "What happened? And don't you lie."
Maxwell quickly answered fearing what would happen if he didn't with the obvious nervous terror in his voice coming through, "I went to find Jackie so we could get on the bus and go home. I saw those three were surrounding her and looking like they were about to fight so I stopped them before he could punch her."
One of the fathers of one of the three bullies actually spoke out in confusion and shock after hearing a girl get mentioned and not seeing one, "What girl? This kid? How is that a girl?"
Jacqueline's father Guillermo immediately responded to the man shouting, "That's my daughter pendejo! She just likes the shapeshift cuz she's self-conscious!"
One of the mothers responded with disgust, "Eww. A freak with powers masquerading as a boy. Don't tell me this girl has been going to the boys bathroom pretending she's one of them?"
The principal tried to get the parents under control before they started fighting saying, "Hold it now. This is not the time or place for fighting amongst adults. You all need to be setting a better example for these kids. In this office I will not tolerate slander against any of the students of this school. Powers are no powers..... Now I did not know the reason for the fight starting, but fighting in general is not tolerated. However boys harassing a female student is equally not acceptable behavior even if they were led to believe she was a boy."
The mother of the main bully that was going to assault Jacqueline ask the principal with a very annoyed serious tone, "So what the fuck does all of this mean? You expelling these two? Giving them detention? Forcing them to stay home for some time? I'm going to allow for assault charges to be filed? Like what are we talking about?"
Arthur gave all of them a cold stair that sent shivers down their spines as he heard them talking. His look was even more ferocious than the one he gave Max thinking his son started off his first day of school doing something far worse than what his son had truthfully explained. Arthur knew his son well and could tell when he was lying and when he was telling the truth. He could see in Maxwell's eyes and how he spoke that he really was just defending a girl from a bunch of boys that were trying to fight her.
Arthur stood up and grabbed his son's backpack, "I don't care what your punishment is..... My son did the right thing. There is no circumstance where three boys should be trying to group up and beat up on a girl even if they thought the girl was a boy. Whatever their reasons I don't care. Any parents of these boys better make sure that they get that kind of thinking out of their heads now before they get older. Because I promise you the next time I hear such things the only charges that will be getting pressed will be on them."
Arthur told the principal with a very cold expression that almost conveyed bloodlust after realizing the principal fed him a different story from the one that his son gave him, "If you want to suspend or expel my son just call me and tell me your decision. If not he will be seeing you tomorrow."
He took Maxwell by the hand and told him, "Come on Max. We're going home."
Afraid that disobeying would lead to punishment Maxwell immediately stood up and followed his father out of the principal's office. The principal wanted to stop them but the feeling of fear he had after seeing that look in Arthur's eyes was very intense.
Most of the parents that stood there were left shaken by the intensity of Arthur's gaze. Many of them felt as if they said or did anything it would only result in ending up just like the three boys involved or worse. However as Jacqueline's mother remained in the principal's office her dad, Guillermo, actually exited and caught up with Arthur and Max.
