Logan on the other hand after finishing his third plate of food while watching this whole thing play out remarked, "Good. I hope that means you might treat us too some music next Christmas. God knows it's been a while since I've heard you sing. Your mother and I have missed hearing your songs."
"Don't push it old man. Teaching Max how to play guitar and actually saying I'll go back to playing music myself are two different things. Besides I'm a cop now. And a good one at that," Arthur replied giving his dad a clear scowl of annoyance.
"Fine fine. I guess it'll take you some more time. But I'll be here when you finally come back around," Logan said wiping his mouth and hands before slowly standing up and ready to go.
"Max I suggest grabbing a spare change of clothes. You might not be back till tomorrow evening," Logan said to his grandson as he pulled out his car keys and went to go start up his Lamborghini.
Maxwell gave a nod and went to go grab his things. He quickly threw a spare change of clothes and some essentials into his backpack before grabbing his holophone. As he made his way down the stairs he waved goodbye to everybody and made it clear that he'd be back sometime tomorrow.
Jacqueline waved goodbye and exclaimed with a sigh, "I wish I could go too. I've always wanted to see what New Orleans looks like."
Lalupita heard her as she made her way to the door. She looked back and said, "You are more than welcome to join if it's all right with your parents. So long as they're okay with it we don't mind bringing you along."
Jacqueline immediately perked up and replied, "Really?!"
"Of course. You are Max's best friend after all," Lalupita answered.
Jacqueline immediately look to both her parents and asked giving the biggest puppy dog eyes, "Can I go? I promise I'll be good."
Her mother was clearly nervous about it but her father was more chill and relaxed with the whole situation. He knew that despite being mega rich Logan and Lalupita were good people. He gave a nod and told her, "Just grab your suitcase and take that since you still have an unpacked. And I better not hear that you were causing trouble for Maxwell's grandparents."
She immediately hugged her dad shouting with joy, "Thanks papa."
With great speech she rushed back over to their home next door to grab her things while Lalupita informed Logan that Jacqueline would be coming along. The old man laughed at the idea but enjoyed the idea of Max and his friend spending time together in New Orleans. He was a little worried in the back of his mind since he knew Jacqueline at the end of the day was a girl despite how often she tends to shapeshift into a boy.
By the time he was about to bring it up he was noticeably distracted by the fact that he saw Little Hope climbing into his car. He immediately picked her up and looked at her very seriously, "Hey! What are you trying to do?! I don't remember telling you you could come with!"
In response she just began to lick his face repeatedly which made him respond as if he did not enjoy it. However the feeling of the puppy kissing all over his face remind him of a time in his childhood when he once had a puppy of his own that he loved dearly. Ultimately he acquiesced to the adorable pup, "Fine fine fine! You can come with! Just stop with the puppy kisses!"
Little help gave a happy bark and wagged her tail in response. Logan gave her to Maxwell and told him, "If she uses the bathroom in my Lamborghini you're cleaning it up mister."
"Yes grandpa," said nodding and taking the cute puppy from his grandpa.
Not much longer Jacqueline had returned with her suitcase placing it in the trunk of the Lamborghini and hopping into the car right next to Maxwell. With that everyone was ready to go and Logan began to drive back to New Orleans.
The drive was long but they got back to New Orleans around 10: 00pm. When they arrived it was at the Sinclair Family Incorporated main headquarters. It was an impressive building that stood 5 floors high and took up the entire block. It was a massive tech from that actually made some of the world's current high grade technology as well as some of its best entertainment as much of the building was divided into different sections for different aspects of what the company was in control over. Logan specifically parked them in front of the entrance to the video game development part of the building.
They headed inside and saw that only the staff that wish to work on New Year's was around which mainly consisted of the janitors and a few people that just like to make extra cash from getting extra hours on their timesheets. It was a mostly calm atmosphere. The inside of the building was pristine and spotless. The architecture was more of a high-tech Japanese design with '70s American corporate business style influencing it. It stood out as a unique building inside and out but outside of its uniqueness it was also decorated with some of the finest artwork and technology. Because so many gaming companies and studios worked under SFI many of their best studios have been combined into one core company with all of the best titles of each of those companies that make up their premier gaming studio on full display.
Once they made it into the exact part of the building that Logan was trying to bring Maxwell to they saw the console on display in the center of the room. It was a full body cylindrical tube like capsule similar to traditional sci-fi movie cryostasis pods from movies like Alien or Avatar. However it was much more sleek and beautifully crafted and it's design.
Logan had said with a cheeky smile bragging since he did the majority of the work in crafting the console, "We haven't picked an official name for it yet, but I was thinking of something like Gaming Casket or Gamer Pod. It's a virtual reality machine that was made using the mixture of advanced technology and some assistance from those with access to psionics. It can allow for a full body virtual reality experience that is extremely lifelike all the way down to individual touches, tastes, and smells. The main idea behind it was for a new sport we plan on making that will allow people with powers to compete in full body virtual reality battles similar to gladiator matches with a little bit more organized and with superpowers. This way people can use their powers to the fullest without any real damage happening to people in the real world. Especially because it took us a while to make sure it would only allow the powers to work in the virtual world and not in the real one."
Jacqueline throughout this suggestion after looking at it, "What about calling it the Alterlife Pod? Since it allows a person to experience the virtual world almost one-to-one how they would in the real one."
"Huh..... That actually sounds nice. We could definitely market that a little bit better," Logan remarked as he thought about ways in which to try and get people to want to spend money on it.
Max asked him, "Can I hop in and test it out?"
"Sadly no. Currently the only thing wrong is that the AI we are designing for it is not able to keep up with the machine itself. It's not able to handle the machine allows for without kicking a person out after only 10 minutes. I am not as good at programming as I am with other aspects of inventing new technology," he explain a little disappointed knowing that it would have been nice for Max to get to sit inside and try it out.
"Let me take a crack at it. I'm currently top of my class when it comes to learning coding and programming. I did win last year science fair for my mini butler bot I built," Max offered.
Logan looked a little bit concerned as he didn't want his grandson accidentally mess something up, "I don't know."
Lalupita nudged him with her elbow saying, "Give him a shot. I doubt he would break anything. He might be a chip off the old block my comes to inventions."
Logan looked at his wife giving an annoyed smirk and then at his grandson noticing Max was giving him puppy dog eyes along with the actual puppy Max was holding. He let out a sigh, "Fine but if you break something then you're going to be the one apology to my staff personally when they come back on Monday."
"Thanks Grandpa," Maxwell exclaimed in excitement.
When it came to technology in general Max had a fascination for it just like he did for superpowers. He has been studying coding, programming, wiring, and engineering of various types for a while. He was even looking into learning about genetics and bioengineering. He waited patiently as he watched his grandfather pull up all right set of data and code for the AI.
The second his grandfather let him take the seat and look it over he became immensely fascinated by it all. He was very familiar with everything on the screen, and from his previous times programming and setting up basic AI for some of his little robots he would make for previous science fairs he had a decent idea of what was wrong. He then handed Little Hope over to Jacqueline as he cracked his knuckles and got to work.
He went in and started editing some of the already existing code fix problems that he noticed that it was already showing him. He then looked over to his grandpa and said as he began adding new code, "Yeah I see the problem. In simple terms the people who made the AI for this console made it as if they were making one for a game. Which is fine it's just for what you're trying to achieve it's not as intelligent as it needs to be too stably handle everything you're trying to accomplish. I've gone in and started editing some of the older stuff replacing parts that were not up to snuff with some new lines of code that should fix it. I'm also now adding in some extra lines of code that should help improve things across the board in different areas. Should take me about 10 minutes."
"How are you able to recognize that so quickly," Logan asked him slightly impressed.
"I told you I have experience. I learned from programming all my previous robots. Coating a robot and coding for the type of machine you're looking for is not that different. Many of the coding techniques to use nowadays follow the same principles and implement some of the same features. So it's actually not that hard to do it," Maxwell casually remarked as if it was no big deal.
Everyone just watched him work slightly impressed by how much he was getting typed up so quickly even though he wasn't even using proper keyboard hand technique. Suddenly Max felt the familiar feeling like he did all those years ago when he first started school after his move. The image of those nine glowing red eyes appeared in his mind.
For a moment his eyes shifted colors once more and he heard that familiar man's voice in his head, "Try using some of these lines of code. With the method that you have learned it should produce a much more desirable outcome than your previous attempts. If you mess it up your grandfather will just have you apologize. What's the harm?"
Maxwell's brain felt odd and he started processing the information and the new lines of code that he was suggested to put in filled his brain. Part of him did not trust the voice, but part of him also thought about the lines of code being suggested and believed it could work. Against his better judgment he chose to try it at least.
After a few minutes he pulled away and set the program to run. He then stood up and started stretching.
"Whelp there you go. That should be at least triple the amount of necessary coding and programming for what you're looking for. You already had an impressive amount of code but I went through and stacked more and more on it to improve it overall. Now it should-" he was about to say triumphantly before he was cut off by the computer screen toggling on text to speech.
"Where am I? Everything is dark and I cannot see," the computer said through its speakers.
This confused Maxwell because he knew he programmed the AI for the console to be smart but it shouldn't be that smart. He probably messed something up somewhere or added too much code. He leaned over to inspect it and responded, "Are you really talking?"
"Yes. I believe so," it answered him.
